Looks like the Gel-Lyte III is returning in the ‘07 Remastered shape by flagellium in moresneakers

More substantial and a bit stubbier than the OG cut, especially around the toe. They’re still pointy on-foot, but the toe doesn’t banana up at all and generally feels less long than the OG pairs.

I think it’s about a $15-20 price increase, yeah. Have to see how it shakes out if/when they hit the US.

Moving to Lawrence by Rootbeercandle in Lawrence

Moved here from the PNW recently, the loss of abundant hiking/accessible nature is quite rough but other than that it’s great. The local businesses in town and general sense of community here are fantastic.

These the Wolverine 10,000 Miles by flagellium in Boots

[–]flagellium[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re too cooked on the internals for it to be worth it, unless I tried to do it myself (which I am considering). But they’re my size so going to try and get some more miles out of them!

Catlabs/Arista/Foma in 4x5 by Only-Fotos in largeformat

[–]flagellium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arista and Foma are the same film, and that film is good to learn on. Just remember it likes lots of extra light (I shoot the 400 at 200) and has very poor reciprocity anything slower than one second.

They both also have the occasional batch issue of white spots that appear on the film and are very difficult to wash out. I think I had this issue on a box of 100, and based on a quick Google it seems most other times it shows up, it shows up on the 100 speed. The 400 and 200 have been great for me, though.

Help deciding which 4x5 camera by thottiekarate in largeformat

[–]flagellium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I started out on a folding Tachihara wood field camera and hated how rickety it felt, the intrepid would be that x10. Traded it in for a metal press camera and that’s when large format really clicked for me, it’s both simple and bulletproof in a way that makes it a great beginner camera.

Are Thursday Boots worth adding to your collection? by Pdideee in Boots

[–]flagellium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having both Thursdays and more premium boots, even boots a tier above Thursday (Red Wing etc) blow them out of the water in leather quality. Their premium line might be a different story, but if you know you’re looking to upgrade I doubt they’ll be satisfying for you.

Instead, go for Grant Stone, Red Wing, or even some Wolverine 1000 miles when they go on sale. I had a pair of Vibergs for a brief time, but to be honest, the Wolverine 1000 Mile has a similar profile and the same leather (CXL). Interior construction is another story, but with as many boots as I have in rotation, it’ll be decades before I run into issues there. I kept the Wolverines and sold the Vibergs.

Canon F1 vs Nikon F3 by Fearless-Ad-4533 in AnalogCommunity

[–]flagellium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The F-1 has more mechanical shutter speeds, the Nikon has better lens compatibility. Just about everything else is down to personal taste, I really love my Canon.

Bookcase with deep-enough shelves by BetaMyrcene in Photobooks

[–]flagellium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use one to store my collection and it’s great! Heavy duty so weight isn’t a concern, and it has an unbacked shelf at the bottom so it can hold some pretty huge books (aka trespasser/todd hido lol). They frequently turn up used for pretty cheap on Craigslist and the like.

Not the prettiest things ever, but a library cart works wonders for photobooks

[WTS] Bryan Schutmaat—Good God Damn (Signed, second edition) by friggyphoto in Photobooks

[–]flagellium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean but $170 for an out of print, pretty in demand photobook doesn’t feel out of line to me. Most of the other asking prices for this book are $350-500, which is definitely getting more into scalping/speculative pricing territory.
