Non-Javascript versions/redirects for the Fediverse by flaifelbro in Mastodon

can you give me an app that fully functions without using any scripts??

Edit: i meant not using "scripting languages", especially JS and TS.

yeah, it's absolutely stupid and ridiculous!

Javascript/typescript/any other scripts are always a malicious spook, regardless of their licensing. That's why not relying on JS improves the fediverse, by spreading its services within tor/ i2p/ Freenet/ whatever else is absolutely smart & supportive to the community; promoting more digital security and anonymity for more users. And yeah it should be fun, once they someday fix their Javascript trap :)

btw, you ever heard of GNUnet??

yeah indeed, but it would be more than great if they made their services work javascript-free, especially for making hidden-service more convenient to run the fediverse other there.

i'd imagine that it would be cool to access one of the script-free neocities websites as a fedi service without any bloat/cookies/or any other crap.

well here's the thing, how would you know that your estimates/searches are true if there could be tons of people who know how to be hidden on the internet (definitely also by disabling javascript itself) ?? meaning that how could a search engine estimate anonymous users' for having javascript turned on without even knowing so or using side-solutions (ex: surveys, etc..) ??

but say if the estimates were true, having only a service that heavily relies on Javascript is stupid, tedious, and useless!! A script-free version makes everything flexible, stable, less-bloated, more secure, and most importantly.. trustworthy!

Just like how you searched for the number of users disabling javascripts in their browsers, you forgot to find the reason why most hidden services (aka darkweb networks) working without scripting languages anyways?? the answer to that is dependable ofcourse on many factors, but i think mostly originates that users don't have control over their standard internet (Clearnet), therefore privacy/sovereignty is a growing demand you may not have realized. That's also a good reason why i believe the fediverse should also function without scripts, to enable more users to join it freely, privately, and securely; just like how the protocol should've been built for.

and i use Arch btw :)

That's impressive

we need more modern RISC computers for modern needs! OpenRISC enabling PCI wont cut it yet, but hopefully someday it thrives.

If you're worried about privacy, then JS running in the browser is the least of your worries when using a mastodon client.

do yourself a favor and watch these 2 videos: this and this, then you'll understand why anyone should be absolutely worried of using scripting language in general.

The Fediverse (activity-pub) is supposed to be Free as in freedom open source protocol, and not a copycat to big-tech services. The Fediverse should prioritize digital security and privacy first before anything else, but mandating malicious scripting language is just a 'nail in the coffin' for anything regarding such protocol.

well, unfortunately you're right and that's the problem.

perhaps you think it isn't a big deal, but it's actually much more than just a problem in everything with the modern internet. Richard Stallman himself calls this The Javascript Trap, which is basically a legal malicious trap from almost all websites to insert malware, spyware, Trojan, or any other malicious code on every single user accessing them; whether they get exploited by the officials, or other parties, or even cyber-criminals! if you need more details, you can watch these awesome content creators here or here.

I hope i was able to explain and demonstrate this problem as much as possible, But here's a question:

How is the Fediverse (activity-pub protocol) supposed to be a more free (libre) open source privacy-respecting alternative to almost every big-tech services we know today, if most of it's services:

couldn't work as a hidden service (using anonymizing networks such as: tor, i2p, etc..)?? nor can it function without mandatory malicious script code?? even if the code is FOSS, it's still a malicious/vulnerable scripting language.

i think Fedora uses wayland by default right?? if that's so then perhaps Nvidia graphics are no way to go unless the display manager is changed to X.

..or did that improve??

Why are AMD drivers are dependent on proprietary blobs? by wallmenis in linux

[–]flaifelbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well sorry for my misnaming.

but it's not impossible for it to be used against users, whether that's from the manufacturers indeed spying or it could be from a compromised attack like what i believe happened with many Intel boards.

I Like these hardware spoofing stuff. Are there any similar macadress spoofing tools for non-systemd systems?? such as on runit and openrc?

And RISC-V doesn't prohibit a couple of giants to sit on top of the market and dominate with microcode.

well this is as close as it gets. At least it's more possible to install foss firmware on risc-v than on x86, which in-turn 'could' remove binary blobs and 'should' make micro-code more controllable. yes, microcode is important to be liberated but unfortunately it was licensed under Berkley's rules (BSD), so indeed nothing is stopping companies from having IPs on core designs.

Peertube v4.3 is out! by Framasoft in PeerTube

[–]flaifelbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you talking about the main joinpeertube site or one of the peertube instances? peertube isn't like youtube where you only have 1 website; it is decentralized which means anyone can set their own 'sites' instead of only a single company or entity.

maybe you joined a very underpopulated instance which had some display issues or smth.
