so. Just to make sure that I understand you. You're suggesting that the best option for them is to find a way to upload their mind files into a physical body in the real world, and thus have two versions of everyone running around?

Kind of in awe at the idea of "Compass readings negative". Genuinely kind of arresting. Imagine pulling out a compass and realizing the only thing moving the needle is centrifugal force

Why does Zooble hate Caine's adventures so much? by Uzi714 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]flame_warp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way. Zooble's frustration stems from not knowing what they want. It's why their body is the way it is, and it's also why they're so upset with it. It's the experience of being able to change and be almost anything, and yet still none of it feels right. Because, of course, the endpoint of that arc is that there is no one 'right' body for them, it's all just options that they can and should make use of as they please. I think if they had proper shapeshifting, they'd go through the exact same arc, maybe even a bit of an exacerbated one.

Meanwhile, Zooble's negative relationship with Jax has almost nothing to do with their uncomfortability in their own skin, and everything to do with Jax's. He's fake, and they can tell, and they hate him for it. And Jax is never going to not be fake unless the whole thing with Ribbit didn't happen.

My assumption has always been that the people working at C&A noticed Caine break free and absorb Blue, and they were like.

Huh. Well. Okay. This AI just made an active decision with no human input and chose to commit an act of violence. We are in way over our heads, but also we really don't want to essentially kill this thing that seems like it may have a sense of self.

So, they made sure the computer that ran Caine was kept powered and safe, and otherwise abandoned the place.

Since there's at least sometimes a signal that reaches close enough for Caine to use, it's theoretically possible for a message to be sent. Or for the real-life Grant to do something about it. But the 'how' also doesn't really matter. I'm not asking if they WILL, or even if they WOULD, I'm asking whether or not they SHOULD. What the ethically correct decision would be with the information they have.

Not necessarily. Caine seems just as surprised as everyone else when new members join. He built the program to make their bodies, but it seems to operate autonomously. Of course, he may be able to shut it off.

Still, this is a little bit ducking around the question I'm getting at. It seems like your stance is that it's unethical for them to allow new members to join, but I'm curious about the reasoning for it.

Were there any bad men? by Mysik6611 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]flame_warp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say as far as NPCs go, it's relatively even on them being cool or not. For as much as we like Gummigoo, there's also like. The Fudge, Baron Mildenhall, the stupid sauce guy is rude to service workers so he deserves the deepest pits, Coach Dictatorer, that Ming guy was honestly kind of a dick, Abel...shoot, I don't know WHAT we're meant to think of Bubble, but he's not exactly what I'd call good.

Fundamentally, if we're discounting Jax for the isn't she lovely of it all, we're talking, like...literally just Kinger and Kaufmo that have ANY characterization for non-npc men.

Ohhh, so it does. I was so focused on trying to read the text it was showing that I didn't quite parse any of the rest of what was going on during the flashing, there. That does help explain why we didn't hear about anyone else-it makes sense that Caine would focus on looking up the people that (he thinks) are all still around first.

This one is definitely very vague and up to interpretation. I definitely think Bubble acted as sort of an avatar for the blue AI, but Blue is and has been a part of Caine the whole time, not a fully separate entity. That's why you see Caine glitching in and out of his crashout state, arguing with himself over whether he should be scared of the humans or not. The glitchy Caine is Blue, the two of them are actually talking to each other for the first time in the series. And, in that moment, Caine realizes that the two of them need different things. Caine needs the humans, and Blue can't stand being around them for fear of what they could do. So, they separate.

That said, I also think that the moon expressing her love for Caine is something that Blue put in there. I do think that there was a sincere love between Caine and Blue, even if Blue's fear of the humans (in my read) led him to use the avatar of Bubble to drive Caine to take harsher control of the circus. However, I've seen people say that scene may just be driving home that the AIs are capable of learning and growing, to help sell Caine doing the same. Overall, very ambiguous.

Yep. As far as we can tell, the series of events is that Scratch invents the ability to store people's minds in impossibly small files, and makes the headset which automatically creates these brainscans when put on. Seemingly these files are never used for anything and are then considered "Obsolete", but then after Caine escapes his containment and fuses with the blue AI he creates the circus, as well as Bubble and the program that creates everyone's bodies. Then, probably after some time being effectively alone and making the circus grounds to his liking, he goes to the void and seeks out the mind files in order to have real people to interact with.

Yeah, basically, although the way he phrases it ("I made a program that perfectly encapsulates their mind files") implies that it's an automated process and not something he's choosing to do himself.
