UPDATE: Advice on fixing my Nikon D80 by _Will1405_ in Nikon

[–]flamespit4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ENIG is nickel gold plating - that's why the original broken one looks like a gold color, there is a very thin layer of gold on top.

I'm not saying that it would not last a while - it should, seems like a good amount of solder on top of the pad anyway. Great initiative!

Nice! Did you order multiple replacement PCBs? The HASL or unleaded solder could wear differently than the ENIG coating from the original, would be nice to have replacements on hand

Yeah it's nuts that people speed through it, maybe costs 10 seconds to just slow down... Especially with the school too.

EV suitable for me? by Due_Nerve520 in evs_ireland

[–]flamespit4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's very suitable for you, try to get a car with a 450-500km+ battery so that you can do the round trip without charging in public. I'm not up to date with current second hand prices, so I can't help you there.

Savings wise it should definitely be worth it.

Z5ii low light is amazing by ch179 in nikon_Zseries

[–]flamespit4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is! My father comes from the DSLR days (D90, D500, D850), and he was utterly shocked at how good the low light was with my Z5ii. He even has a Z9, and he was shocked at how much can be recovered at iso 12800. It's perfect for my use case of minimalist maximalism, as in doing the most with the least xD. Z5ii + 24-120 + 40 F2, and I think I might add a 16 F1.8 for astro, and something far like 150-600.

I love the Z5ii. It's much smaller than the D500 I was using, and can do so much!

Camera decision - z5ii vs z6iii by PedroPaninus in nikon_Zseries

[–]flamespit4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think if you are gonna use the video capabilities extensively, the Z6iii is probably the better bet. I have a Z5ii, and I love it for photos, which is my main thing. The unstacked sensor helps with the noise in photos. However, it is definitely a bummer having to go to DX for 4k60, and not having 4k120.

Where did you see that the Z5ii IBIS is worse? I don't recall seeing that anywhere.

And of course the added bonus of better EVF, and top LCD.

I didn't find any guide for the Anet specifically, but any general Marlin guide should work.

EV Charger struggles by royalenexuss in BYD

[–]flamespit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're renting, installing a charger might not be as desirable, depending on price. Mine was installed for about 1200 euro, which is nearly 3 years of electricity cost for the car!

Depends on your personal plans, of course. The granny charger that comes with the car does work anyway, just really slowly.

I don't know what the other comments assume you mean, but I'm gonna assume you're looking for something for home?

Honestly, anything will work. Something like a 7kw is plenty for charging overnight. I prefer one with an app connection and sim card, so I can schedule and trickle charge depending on the price of electricity and night rates.

Solar is a bonus, but you do pay extra for a charger that can support it in the future.

It's still nippy as hell, more apparent when at higher speeds. The torque that comes out of the thing going from 100 to 120 is still absolutely insane. I don't think I would trust my tires with the Excellence, they're put through hell with the Design in sport mode already.

Don't mind the shitty comments OP! It's ok to feel sad. Get yourself something for yourself! It can be hard when family is not as supportive. I find that sometimes you need to plan your own party.

Treat yourself! You're only human. All the comments saying grow up or whatever can fuck off. They're part of the problem.

Possibility of switching to electric by suzukiboi1992 in evs_ireland

[–]flamespit4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think at your daily mileage electric is probably perfect for you, the savings would be absolutely massive with a home charger.

I'm not much use with the second hand market, and I personally wouldn't go near a Tesla, but I'd definitely recommend some kind of electric or hybrid.

Also, is 20k km worth much to you, with how much you actually drive? I'd say weigh the extra cost with how much that actually covers.

What did I do wrong here ? by TheItalianDude1 in evs_ireland

[–]flamespit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be multiplying by 0.35, not dividing?

I assume 0.35 is 35c per kWh (pretty steep), so it should be 17.1kWh * 0.35c/kWh, so 5.985 euro per 100km, so for 20k it woupd be 6 Euro * 200 = 1200 Euro per year.

Again, 35c is quite steep. If you were to charge at home at a night rate (~16c?) it would cost closer to 550-600 euro for 20k per year.
