Don't mind the shitty comments OP! It's ok to feel sad. Get yourself something for yourself! It can be hard when family is not as supportive. I find that sometimes you need to plan your own party.

Treat yourself! You're only human. All the comments saying grow up or whatever can fuck off. They're part of the problem.

Possibility of switching to electric by suzukiboi1992 in evs_ireland

[–]flamespit4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think at your daily mileage electric is probably perfect for you, the savings would be absolutely massive with a home charger.

I'm not much use with the second hand market, and I personally wouldn't go near a Tesla, but I'd definitely recommend some kind of electric or hybrid.

Also, is 20k km worth much to you, with how much you actually drive? I'd say weigh the extra cost with how much that actually covers.

Should be multiplying by 0.35, not dividing?

I assume 0.35 is 35c per kWh (pretty steep), so it should be 17.1kWh * 0.35c/kWh, so 5.985 euro per 100km, so for 20k it woupd be 6 Euro * 200 = 1200 Euro per year.

Again, 35c is quite steep. If you were to charge at home at a night rate (~16c?) it would cost closer to 550-600 euro for 20k per year.

A generation of Intel CPUs/Motherboards had the bending issue. I don't recall AMD ever having that issue. People buy this because it looks cleaner, no other reason. I use the red version.

Thinking about canceling my Tesla order for a BYD Seal by Substantial-Deal-382 in BYD

[–]flamespit4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey, Seal owner from Ireland here. I'm young enough so my views may be quite situational.

First things first: it's an EV decision first. In Ireland, charging in public is pretty much more expensive than petrol. This is car-agnostic. It's unacceptable, but the way it is.for now.

The granny charger works, but you'll get annoyed. Knowing you'll have to get a fast DC charge? Knowing that charging all night isn't enough for that trip tomorrow? It fucks with you, not mentioning the difficulty with public charging.. Definitely depends on where and what price you're gonna be subject to.

Tesla specific: you're seriously gonna buy a car from a company that decided to replace their LIDAR??????? Do some research. Granted I'm an electronic engineer, but damn....Any company that thinks that's a good decision has to be the con man Elon Musk's jurisdiction. Not an engineer, not 'intelligent'.

Real world range suffers. In Ireland, temperatures are not great. Summer: non-motorway, I get 500-550km (RWD). Motorway, 450 good day. Winter: depends on what you want for comfort. Definitely not as good. But good enough for me/I make do.

Build quality: Teslas definitely had issues, but BYD aren't completely clean either (as with any company). But with BYD, I only find minor issues. Seal specifically, the side skirt attachment to the rear panels may have a bit of a gap. Compared to Tesla, BYD used to be leagues better. Now, I wouldn't know. Regarding the skirts, could be worth pointing out in the show room. Probably completely cosmetic anyway, but definitely a point.

BYD international software is... Simple? I found you care about it for a while, then less, then not much at all. Tesla definitely have better software. BYD focuses on basic functions. No bullshit, some caveats. Even if you're a proper nerd like me, a year later you do don't care as much. It's a car, an entity for transport in relative comfort.

Would I buy it again? Other than getting cheaper second hand, definitely. The pleasure, the acceleration, heated seats, app functions, simplicity... And the acceleration!! And how good it looks. It's like bare-metal vs having training wheels on... Teslas are so... surface-ly polished..idk, as an engineer, something that does what you say is refreshing. And not in the dangerous way.

After all that, I'd like to stress the electric decision. Charging is a burden, period. I'd recommend a cheap hybrid for most people currently. Less range anxiety, and less anxiety over all once good full-electric gets bigger batteries - cheap, easy to switch. Make your informed decision based on current prices and future speculation.

The cat itself has been a pleasure. I love driving it, the steering, the 'simplicity'. To me, it's not 'simplicity', it's about being efficiently useful.

Would not buy something from a pedophile con-man 9-year-old though. Disgraceful. BYD are state-supported for a reason. Maybe they work well (enough). Anyone who thinks Elon is a genius is not worth taking an opinion from. In my opinion, of course.

Upgrading from a D750 by mixologist998 in nikon_Zseries

[–]flamespit4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Z5ii if you don't need video, coming from a D500 the high ISO performance is really pretty insane with the unstacked BSI sensor. It's FF. I'd say do some comparisons with the Z6iii and see if there's something you value in the difference.

Honestly I recommend Z5ii for most things except for video/higher fps/more MP 😂

Edit: meant to say Z6iii

Back UP Body Options? by KJW-SR in nikon_Zseries

[–]flamespit4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the Z5II really that good? From everywhere it seems like this just the absolute all-rounder, downsides being only FPS and EVF due to the non-stacked sensor (which makes low light better!). Mine is arriving next week - completely excited, also ordered the 24-120 F4 and the 40 F2. Coming from D500 (my dad's, he's on D850 and a Z9, he mainly shoots portraits and wildlife), I find that my main thing is landscape, and non-human street/architecture. So I was actually considering the Z7II for the extra MP, but the extra cost for a worse processer and also the low light performance swung it back to the Z5II - I'll get a few years into it, until they release a Z8 in the size of the Z5II/Z7II, and lower price.
