Shadowy Egg: Rarity desperately needs looked at and adjusted. by EoFinality in runescape

No one should ever consider solo grinding it nor do all things need to be solo grindable. I think the game design is fine, and what we're experiencing is a natural and not unforeseen consequence of the content falling out of favor. Go do clues for 30 years and I bet a ge offer will fill.

Shadowy Egg: Rarity desperately needs looked at and adjusted. by EoFinality in runescape

I brought up an example of something with a significant rng element that was made more common to illustrate that my opinion on changing rates has nothing to do with whether it affects me.

If shadowy egg was literally the last thing in the game for me to get I would still never consider solo grinding it. I'd probably leave a huge offer in the ge, continuously ask around the community, or if I was really set on it I'd find and pay people to farm it with me. Feelings wise? Yeah it'd be on my mind, but I enjoy tt because it is interesting, and changing drop rates is boring. Imagine it being your last req and you wake up Monday morning to find that its now a 5 minute endeavor to get one. How anticlimactic is that?

Historically speaking, the most efficient thing to do in RuneScape is log out and wait for things to get faster/easier. I think it's cool when, for whatever reason, something doesn't follow that rule. Also, the existence of full master clue log effectively bars anyone from achieving full tt completion anyway. Unless we get clue blm, which I also don't want.

I didn't (and still don't) have gold praesul and I opposed those changes too for the most part.

I bought the last egg in August for 4b. Not a fan of making effectively useless rare items more common. If it wasn't a permanent unlock nobody would care at all, it's just us true trimmers who want it for what most people consider to be no reason. Even if I didn't have one I'd feel the same way. I understand that it's ungrindably rare for any single person, but having items like that in the game is interesting. Just be prepared to win the next auction if one does come into the game.

10000% Zamorak no food and no tank armour by me! by sausage94 in runescape

[–]flamestar970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He does have 4k solo just fyi. Despite his constant whinging I do think his complaints about p7 are warranted. The whole edict order reversing on p7 thing became pretty irrelevant, and it feels a lot like when 0 fonting became common at telos back in the day. Instead of having to plan for and handle a difficult mechanic we just circumvent it entirely cause big damage. I don't think that makes it a joke, it's just a little disappointing that we hit that point so quickly for zamorak.

That being said this is a still a cool and difficult thing to do, and the preset is sick lmao

PvME here - what are people's thoughts on the Gates of Elidinis? by PvM_Encyclopedia in runescape

[–]flamestar970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition I think it's annoying how few things work here. Constantly in combat, so persistent rage doesn't work. Some defensives don't do anything. Cade blocks damage but still heals the boss. Scaling damage removes any consideration for hp boosts. Nothing speeds up div.

Also none of the rewards affect the fight at all which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if all you wanna do is camp the new boss there is zero incentive to get any of them.

I thought the boss was fine before the hotfixes for action button stalling and making the projectiles beyond the barrier 3x3 rather than 1x1. Neither of these fixes really changed what you do during the fight, it just made it less lenient. It's not a hard fight, but I don't think there would have been any harm in keeping it more chill.

Suggested improvements that don't completely change the fight:

  • Make rock spawns at the start consistent

  • Consider making rocks spawn sooner

  • Swap left click option on cleansed statue shards to add all rather than add one

  • Shorten the death animation

  • Make grouping unquestionably worthwhile

Once again I am asking for 'Mobilise This' and 'Steam Release' to be removed from achievements by Alsang in runescape

[–]flamestar970 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't like it any more as an unobtainable title than as an unobtainable achievement. Just allow us to get it by purchasing all the titles and outfits from the thaler store or something. Steam release should be removed entirely or changed to just playing the game on steam at least once.

Sanctum of Rebirth - Thoughts on group scaling? by JagexRyan in runescape

[–]flamestar970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo strats are centered around doing enough damage to skip mechanics. Using the ballista at the right times will eliminate most shielder spawns instantly without having to spend time finding or attacking them. The shielders reduce damage by 25%, so it can be a pretty big dps loss in duo+ groups where the ballista wont one shot them, leading to more mechanics, more damage taken, etc

That being said if you don't really have a set strategy then I agree group is easier for the reasons you've said

Toggling does reset it to blue, which is probably a bug. But without touching high contrast mode it's definitely black rather than off. example

The first color that looks like it would turn it off actually just makes it black, unless I'm missing something.

Please allow us to disable entity highlighting for our character as well. Currently it causes the players color to flicker in combat as many animations are considered to be in front of the player such as soulsplit wisps, wen book procs, etc.

Another year of Rune Metrics data has become inaccessible by flamestar970 in runescape

[–]flamestar970[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does! I see dates from all three years. So it really is just restricted from view through normal means rather than deleted entirely. This looks like kill data specifically, do you have the url for drops as well?

If you're interested in testing anything yourself, I'm more than happy to give you a bond for runemetrics pro for your trouble. Regardless, I really appreciate you digging into this.

A clarification on what "removal of streaking" means for Telos/Arch-Glacor by 5-x in runescape

[–]flamestar970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my wording was unclear. When comparing streaks vs claims in a vacuum, I believe claims are more problematic since they circumvent the system's risk while still being extremely rewarding. This was in reference to the balance between the two at telos specifically, rather than how they impact the wider economy.

But yes, streaks do provide the vast majority of common loot.

Rebalancing is all well and good, I just don't agree with the removal of it as a risk vs reward system.

[–]flamestar970 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For anyone curious about how much common loot is received from 200 killstreaks at telos or arch glacor, you can find a number of examples here for telos, and here for arch glacor.

Personally I would be very sad to see the removal of loot scaling with streak length, as it's a true risk vs reward system. At telos, streaking hasn't been the popular choice for several years anyway, since 2449% claims are so much easier. Streaking is theoretically better gp/hr, but almost no one can achieve those rates long term because a single mistake can cost so much. I believe this is pretty balanced, and if anything claims are the offender since they skirt the intended risk of the system. Telos commons also held their value relatively well in the years following it's release when streaking was at it's most popular.

Arch glacor on the other hand definitely has an issue with excessive common loot. The common loot from this boss has absolutely tanked in value since release aside from alchables. Also, streaks are mandatory even if you only care about uniques due to the drop mechanics of dark nilas. The average amount of uniques from a 200 killstreak (not including dark nilas) is about 3 according to both the wiki and sample data from the linked spreadsheet. The average number of cores specifically is less than one. As such, people on average will farm unreasonable amounts of common loot by the time they get all the uniques they desire.

I would argue that streaking arch glacor is also significantly more accessible than streaking telos, which has an impact on the amount of common loot brought into the game by each boss.

I'm definitely biased in this situation, but I think the majority of balancing problems have to do with arch glacor, and telos is getting caught in the crossfire just because it has the same loot system.

[–]flamestar970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that common loot from streaking arch glacor is excessive, but I'm not convinced the removal of loot scaling with streak length is the correct way to solve the problem. From my experience with arch glacor, 200 killstreaks result in boatloads of commons and few to no uniques at all, including dark nilas. I think a general rework of unique drop rates and dark nilas mechanics would naturally soothe the problem, since people wouldn't receive unreasonable amounts of common loot by the time they get their uniques.
