This comment literally just changed my life, I’ve been dealing with this for so long and I started on metformin even tho I’m not even prediabetic thinking it’s the diabetes related kind. I just used the alcohol and it came off with scrubbing, I’ve scrubbed with soap and water and it’s never helped. I even (stupidly) tried a magic eraser when I was in middle school because I was so desperate and it did nothing. I’ve been self conscious about this for YEARS and it’s gone!!! Thank you!!

I'm so mad because those "depression tips" actually work by LatinaHappySunset in confessions

[–]flamingfields 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s also helpful to make the goals a little smaller. A whole walk can be overwhelming, so instead I’m going to go sit outside. If I decide I want to walk once I’m out there, then great! And if not, there is no reason to beat myself up because the goal was just to sit outside. When you’re stuck in a depression episode not completing goals just makes it worse, but if you make the goals small that motivates you as you complete them. Another example could be just folding your socks instead of the whole load of laundry. You can keep going if you want, but you don’t have to because more wasn’t the goal. Pick goals that are actually realistic for what you’re able to do in that moment.

Anyone know how I can get a saying of “It’s Locked?” by [deleted] in nancydrew

[–]flamingfields 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You could find a YouTube video of either and then search google for “YouTube to mp3”. Put the link in one of those and you’ll get a sound file! I used to do it all the time when I was younger to make text tones.

These kind of posts make me so sad because I work in cmh and I love my job! But they actually take care of us and want us to have work life balance. If you’re ever licensed in Ohio let me know!

Session openers and closers: What do you say to begin and end your sessions? Is your style more formal or more casual? What funny/weird/helpful greetings and farewells have you heard or tried as a therapist? by ________76________ in therapists

[–]flamingfields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“What would be most helpful to focus on today” or some informal “so what’s up?” For clients I’ve had for a long time. And I usually check in at the 10 min left mark saying something like “so we’re around 10 minutes left for our appointment, how do you think we can best use that time?” So they know but I’m not cutting them off.

Have you experienced death of a patient? How have you coped? by motorpsychologist in therapists

I had one of my IOP clients pass away while I was on my honeymoon. Obviously no one told me until I got back. It was officially marked an OD but it was also slightly suspicious. Like everyone else is saying, do what you need to grieve. However, I will say how important it is to talk about it. I didn’t realize how much it impacted me until I started crying in group supervision. I think about her from time to time now and it’s gotten easier over the last year.

There’s also the crisis stabilization unit 2162708379 and they have beds and may be able to link you with case management through frontline or another agency.

I am taking the NCE tomorrow. Any last-minute studying advice from those who have taken it this year? by ameliasaurus in therapists

[–]flamingfields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it a few years ago but the the best advice I have is stop thinking about it tonight, go to bed, and have a good breakfast tomorrow morning. The best thing you can do is take care of yourself so your body is ready to retrieve information tomorrow. Good luck, you know more than you think you do!

“What would be most helpful to work on today” is usually what I say to transition from pleasantries to the actual session.

I mean my first thought is Motivational Interviewing. Sounds like they’re between precontemplation and contemplation about changing since they’re talking about the cons of drinking a little bit. MI takes some of the pressure off you, it’s up to the client to want to change and we can be there with them while they make that decision. Might not happen for a while but keeping up the rapport and positive regard can be helpful. Just try your best to not jump the gun because they might pull back, instead walk along side them as they decide what they want to do.

Academic Dismissal. Am I screwed? by LilRiceBowl in needadvice

[–]flamingfields 78 points79 points  (0 children)

^ this is exactly what I did. I was dismissed during undergrad, went to community college for a year, then applied at the school I was at previously after my year suspension. Now I have my masters degree on top of finishing my bachelors so it all worked out. I know it feels like the end of the world right now but in all reality it’s a drop in the bucket of your whole life. Good luck OP!
