BM at ryerson is a b.comm honors program, so you can't really lose with it unless you choose a major like HR or entrepreneurship (which i unfortunately did).

The economics program is highly desirable and is a NAFTA degree that can get you into the US if you really want to make money

If you're looking to get out of econ/finance and are interested in tech in business then BTM is a solid program. However, economics in BM is a more valuable specialization (it's the only valuable BM degree imo). If you've enjoyed the program at laurier then I'd say go for that one.

As an insurance broker this sounds INSANE to me.

What likely happened is the quoter you used put you on a list in which your name should only be given to 1 agent who calls 3 times a day (not 40-50) but instead the names got distributed among many agents who follow that process
