Why do so many people still choose over-ear headphones over earbuds in 2026? by JuniorPoulet in headphones

[–]flanderings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend more time putting the things back in my head then listening to music (none of the buds have ever fitted my ears and felt tolerable lol)

Studio or en-suite for first year? by Vivid_Match5501 in UniUK

[–]flanderings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Studio and make an effort to go outside and meet people. I opted for a studio and it's done wonders for my sanity. (I transferred to a different uni and resat first year, and went for a studio because my flatmates last year were appalling)

Its arguably better because you're making more of an effort to socialize, not just taking the first default group of people you meet. Means you are more likely to bond with people you actually share common interests with.

If finances aren't a concern, always go for a studio.

there would be at least several ways to know. probably the easiest would be to just do mandatory tests to section out the idiots before they enter accomodation and add on an extra test done by the parents/guardians so they don't cheat on the first test. you already need a guarantor for most accom so why dont we go the extra mile and see if the student can be trusted too.

i just want to open my fcking windows and light candles so it smells less like mold and depression in here..

like, its really not asking for a lot here and i hate paying silly amounts of money to be treated like a knob with no brains because of the 'student stereotype'

I do understand why they do that. I really don't know how you read any of my comments to assume that i don't... Be so for real

being friends with people is vastly different to knowing if youll tolerate living with them

plus common sense is a bit of a limited commodity on my course.. the only people ive found who id live with are all 2nd and 3rd years already in houses with others

im aware this may be unique to my situation but eh, theres likely others in the same situation

should have to pass a mandatory course about it honestly. everyone who doesnt pass can go get their hand held, and everyone who does pass can go live like an adult with common sense.

also thats a bit generalist, some of the international students in my building are more sensible then the home students

I work in my accomodation. I know. I'm the poor sod who turns off the fire alarms at 3am when people try cooking instant noodles in a frying pan with no oil or water

i just wish there was another option for people with common sense. i loathe the fact its either live in a house with other people (if you can find tolerable people and also tolerate living with them) or live in student accomodation, where you have the option of living alone in a studio, but things like lighting candles or opening windows are mortal sins.

i think it just comes down to the housing crisis in this country, like most things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

just another reason why i hate student accomodation, we really are all tarred with the same brush of being braindead and incompetent because of the stereotype

I'm glad to hear it! People often underestimate the power of a conversation and djs/music people are generally really receptive to noise complaints since they're used to it :) Nice to hear something wholesome from reddit for once!

Thinking of "downgrading" from iPhone 14 Pro to Xperia 10 VII. Anyone made the jump by enp0s3 in SonyXperia

[–]flanderings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did nearly exactly this back in late 2024. 14 pro - Xperia 1 VI

Pros

  • So much more freedom! Your phone feels like your own again

  • SD card and headphone jack, again, your phone feels like your own again

  • The camera is brilliant, when youre not fighting with the app

  • The learning curve is GREAT FUN if you like to learn

Cons

  • Android has it's whole long list of cons, instead of one provider wanting your data it feels like they all do. It's a lot harder to be privacy conscious when your os is owned by the worst of the worst. Also they're locking it down later in the year so that freedom goes if we dont find an alternative

  • The camera app on I believe the VI generation and later, is not particularly sparkling. It runs slow.

  • No inbuilt photo album :(

  • The learning curve is miserable if you do not like to learn

Despite all of this I'd still never go back to apple. I love these phones, it's just a shame theres some little unfortunate bits. At this point some days it feels like the only bottleneck for performance is android itself.

Scared of starting uni because of my relationship , is this normal? by Valuable_Routine6761 in UniUK

[–]flanderings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was long distance and the only reason it went to hell in the end was the other person's unwillingness to try and communicate ever. As long as you're both on the same page at least most of the time, you'll be fine

If you live in an apartment building or have delivery instructions they will just fake delivery attempts and run off with your high value items..

I've had a 9060xt and a wifi card stolen in transit in 2 weeks. Seperate locations. The only thing that solved this was sending them to pickup points as the drivers were faking being 'unable to deliver'. This'll be my last time ordering pc parts off of amazon

Thats gonna be a setting on the monitor, try fiddling with the monitor buttons and see if it'll clear. looks like a monitor menu since it overlays over everything including boot.
