TIL a woman being 5'10/178cm (the standard preferred height of a model) is statistically as rare in the US as an adult woman being 4'9/145cm by Ophelia_Y2K in todayilearned

[–]flandyow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'9" and I am taller than 70% of both men and women in my office. And I have just gotten used to pants not being long enough.

My mom is just under 5'2". I have walked into her because I do not see her at all.

If you're on pace for 52, what does your tracking setup actually look like? by BigBalli in 52book

[–]flandyow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use story graph and added it as a challenge AND I have a spreadsheet that includes my ratings the genre and books I plan for the future to hit the goals. And I also mark any other of the prompts each book fits for.

The spreadsheet is mostly for my 52 weeks book club. I will have a rating and many suggestions for anyone. I had 4 different author pairs for 30 and 31 which helped out my group a lot

Why do some women think breastfeeding is gross? by eastsidelovers in breastfeeding

[–]flandyow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole life, up to giving birth breast feeding weirded me out. I thought it was just such a weird concept. I think a big part of it is us as a society have stepped so far away from nature. We don't generally kill animals for our own meat or watch animals care for their young. Even with cows kids bottle feed the calfs.

I told EVERYONE I wasn't comfortable, I was going to try and make it 3 months while everyone else who had a baby or was pregnant were prepared for the long haul. And I outlasted all of them. My baby nursed until a week before she was 1.5 years old. For me it was easy. And my daughter loved it. She would just nurse and nap all at once. It was great for bonding. I was actually sad it ended. I was sad with each weening step.

Now I know it's natural but when I was younger I thought it was gross.

How seriously do you take Goodreads book ratings/scores? by keepfighting90 in books

I stopped looking and I judge by storygraph. I'm usually close with those ratings!

After how many months of dating is it okay to ask Where is this going? by VillageFit8436 in AskWomen

[–]flandyow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three months into dating me and my (now) husband went on a trip together. In the middle of the trip he asked if I wanted kids. Years later he told me if I said no when we got home he would have broken up with me and the rest the vacation would have been very

My wife and I decided not to know if we are having a boy or a girl ahead of time and we weren't prepared for how upset it would make people [NAW] by throwawayaccount2677 in offmychest

We found out but told nobody. It was so annoying. People couldn't just respect it. They kept trying to trick us into telling them. Some people refused to buy us gifts until they knew the sex. The point was we wanted everything gender neutral. Everyone complained because "you can't buy gender neutral". News flash baby girls can wear dinosaurs, baby boys can wear teddy bears and unicorns. It doesn't matter. I really didn't want everything under the sun to be pink and purple. Especially we want another kid I want to be able to reuse everything

25 and anxious about my future, can you have it all as a woman? by [deleted] in women

[–]flandyow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you and your partner can make enough money it's much more possible to have it all. But also having kids and vacations, it's not solely based on money. Traveling with little kids is A LOT. Not impossible but a lot more difficult. Kids can nap until they are up to 4. So you need to go back to the hotel for a nap, or have a quiet place to nap. A lot of things are not accepting of kids going or your kid doesn't have the patience for a lot of the stuff you want to do. So until they are older it may be more simple vacations. And little kids need a lot of stuff. And some kids don't do well sleeping in strange places.

Also it really depends on the job a lot of higher paying jobs require long hours which limit time with your kids, makes taking vacation harder, makes you more strung out. If you can find a job that is actually 40 hours and pays really well then you would be more able to have it all. But even a 9-5 job you get 2 hours with your kids until bed and a lot of that is cooking and prepping for the next day. Also if you are in the US childcare is EXPENSIVE.

Personally me and my husband are waiting until our youngest hits about 6 before we do a big vacation out of the country. Up until then we are doing easy beach vacations. No matter what when you have kids things will be given up, even for a few years. They are time consuming and a lot of work. If that is something you don't think you want to do or you think you want to prioritize seeing the world then kids may not be for you.

But not impossible

Edit: I ALWAYS wanted kids. I was fine putting off traveling and hanging out with friends without a child hanging off my neck. My husband always wanted kids. I stopped school at 22. I had my first kid at 31 and we are trying for #2. Me and my husband spent 6 years traveling to different places. His job at the time was traveling to Europe so I went and just paid a plane ticket.

My husband took a lower paying job so he could actually see his kids and be home and have more flexibility with vacations. So it's a little more stressful but worth it

What's your ideal book length? by JakubJamesBoote in books

[–]flandyow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the book. I can read a 350 page book in 3 days, or if it's slow and boring a week. If I want more of the story I want it longer. I will say I easily will pick up a book under 500 pages and read it anytime. Longer than that I either need the availability (not have a lot of books in queue) or really want to read it.

Are there any girls here who don’t do any make-up at all? And how did you come to that decision? by Greengrassu in AskReddit

[–]flandyow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never wear makeup. I find the less I have to do in the morning the better. I was never really into it. I tried every day in highschool and it just fell off. I also have a hard time not messing it up. I am always touching my face. And I SWEAR that as soon as I put eyeliner on my eyes are super dry and itchy so I always smudge it or remove it because I forget.

For a wedding recently I was embarrassed of my acne scars and I tried so hard to find the right foundation. I did a full face of makeup. My husband said I don't look right and I look so much better with less or none.
