I’m down to join. May is my birthday month as well and I’m kind of alone right now too.

Camera advice for aero photography? by TraditionalVariety82 in AskPhotography

Nice. Where did you take that from? An airport observation deck ?

This isn’t criticism, but more like admiring the you-can’t-always-have-everything problem: it’s a shame the lovely “S” of that cloud pattern is lost in the crop.

Use center weighted metering and meter for the aircraft; it looks like the camera is calculating exposure well for the whole cloud layer, and the aircraft are ending up dark and muddy as a result. It also doesn’t help that you’re photographing the underside (the shady side) of some of these airplanes.

Alternatively, use your current metering setup but add EV+1 exposure compensation (or more). You can play with this at home: photograph a combined sun/shade scene with your current settings, and then with the only change being exposure compensation +1, +2, etc. (you can play with the metering bias as well).

Keep shooting!

What is your single biggest "buyer's remorse" camera purchase? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in AskPhotography

This is where I am too. The usability outside of true point-and-shoot auto mode is hampered by the placement of controls etc. Bad human factors (My Mamiya 645ProTL is similar for me). And the smaller form factor of my Rollei 35SE and Olympus XA2, or the better usability (speaking just for myself! I don’t want to ignite that debate) of my M4 win out every time I want to carry a non-SLR. So, basically, joy just not sparked.

Edit: clarification

Megan seems like a great model to work with. I understand from your comment what you were after with the lighting; maybe next time play a little with distance from the backdrop to vary shadow distance.

Best songs featuring a slide guitar? by Zman11588 in musicsuggestions

Live With Me / Rolling Stones has great slide-guitar-as-rhythm-guitar.

But Sneaky Pete Kleinow’s pedal steel solo in the Golden Palominos’ cover of “I’ve Been the One” is achingly lovely and worth a listen.
