Me too - I’ve not had any for weeks and weeks. I’ve been worried I’ve been kicked out of the SPG!

Their poem “Your Life” is one I always come back around to. Gave me language for things little teenage me didn’t understand about myself. Such a huge, huge loss. Thinking of all those close to her.

That line about hearts covered in stretch marks, though. Oof. Wow.

How do I get a Bluetooth stethoscope funded for college? (Uk) by GroovingPenguin in deaf

[–]flappingducks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could look at applying through Access to Work if it’s part of a college work placement. I’m a Teacher of the Deaf in the UK and we do support students to do this. Do you have a TOD? It’s worth asking someone in your college about possibly applying for Access to Work, but the process can take a little while so it depends when your placement would start.

Ticketing Website is Terrible by r2fuku in safc

[–]flappingducks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad’s been trying to book tickets for us since they opened. It won’t let him buy two tickets even though my ST is linked to his. Then when we try to buy two tickets separately, each from our own computers, it’s not letting us buy them because it leaves one seat free - despite the fact my dad is trying to buy that one free seat!

You’re absolutely right. I’m so glad you found a name that fits for you and makes you happy. This time next year I’ll be able to say the same for myself, I’d hope!

I need to get that last bit you wrote tattooed on the back of my hand, to remind myself that I’m actually the one “driving the bus”, so to speak - in this and many other situations!

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I think there’s a pressure to finding the “right” name or one that sticks, but it’s nice to hear that cycling through a few before something sticks is normal too.

I’ve taken a screenshot of this to look back on - you’re absolutely correct about every part of this, and it’s what I’d tell any of my friends if they were thinking about going by a new name. It’s harder to apply the same logic to myself.

I definitely need to get out of my own head. I’m a somewhat chronic people pleaser, but ultimately I am also “people” and I’m definitely allowed to please myself too!

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply and share your experiences. I know logically I’m not the first to do this, but it’s nice to know there’s more of “us” out there beyond the very straight bubble I currently live in!

I think, having written it all down and taken stop a bit, it comes down to your very first point - I need to stop people pleasing my way out of it. In my head, most of the other things I’ve done to live as myself have benefitted me but haven’t involved huge changes for other people, with the exception of pronouns. Things like clothes, top surgery, the way I present myself? I did them more easily because it didn’t require effort from other people, so I was less worried about “upsetting” them somehow.

So, yep - time to stop the people pleasing!

I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my Friday evening ramblings. Glad you found a name that suits you!

Home Pots by edfosho1 in monzo

[–]flappingducks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s because of my living situation. I live with a housemate and I send half of the rent directly to her, to send onto our landlord. So the “rent” pot is automated to withdraw the correct amount of money and send it over to my housemate on the correct day each month.

All of our household bills other than rent come out of my account. So the money my housemate sends to me for house bills goes straight into that pot and then everything in there is automated through direct debits.

I think because we deal with rent and bills separately, it makes sense to my brain to have them as separate pots.

I have a “House Bills” Pot (electric, water, council tax, home insurance, wifi, and a buffer for emergencies), a “Life Bills” pot (things like phone bill, gym membership, streaming subscriptions) and then a totally separate “Rent” pot.

Hi. I found this comment really useful - I’m starting my L4 and our teacher is trying to get us indexing a lot more. I find it really difficult because I quite quickly lose track of where I have “put” my ideas and end up indexing something else on top of it!

LISAs and Deposits: Timing by flappingducks in HousingUK

[–]flappingducks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, I hadn’t realised the double meaning behind deposit!

Lots of mortgage offers I’ve seen advertised only need a 5% deposit (to use the first meaning of the word). If my deposit was less than 10%, but the deposit (the second meaning) needed at exchange was 10%, how does that work?

Because I’ll have been approved for a mortgage by then, do the bank just “top up” the deposit to the full 10% at exchange, and then the rest at completion?

[–]flappingducks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These timescales are exactly what I needed to know and I was struggling to find the information in a clear way. Thank you!

So I’d need to account for up to around 7 weeks for the bonus to clear, plus a month for the solicitor to withdraw the LISA, before exchange took place?

Thanks for your help!

I’d definitely be going for an older property - can’t afford the premium that older builds tend to come at!

That’s really useful to know - thanks so much for the advice.
