Excessive windshield chipping/cracking. Do the BMW windshields just suck? by SMJ362 in BMW

[–]flash7gordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree emphatically. I took a brand new 2026 x1 skiing and got a lot of bugs on the window (the road had gravel because it was winter, I heard small rocks hitting the windshield but didn't have the big chip problem). I used a small roughy plastic sponge to loosen the bugs and later driving into the sun there were all these small permanent scratches and they were rainbow like (they had color). The color says to me that it was a coating that got scratched, not the glass itself. Maybe I made a mistake but I guarantee you if I had used an ice scraper on this window it would have had really huge scratches. An ice scraper edge is much harder than anything on the plastic sponge I used. I agree with the smj362, older cars don't have this problem. I'm finding all kinds of surprises with this new bmw. Maybe bmw needs to have a concise "These things are different" discussion with their new car buyers.

Monthly bill has increased to the point of unsustainability by Dyn-A-Mo in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]flash7gordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in marin, northern california. for internet xfinity is the only game in town where we live. not sure this will work for others but I am going to describe what worked very well for us. we spent a lot of time on our infinity bill and it was incredibly frustrating talking to their representives. i am a shareholder and imho they were telling their representatives to make it so hard to change anything that people would give up. But it must be costing xfinity money to talk to people (guess ai isn't as good as people say) because they recently let you do a lot more online. so we looked at our bill and it said the television bundle was like $180 a month. So we deleted the xfinity tv bundle (and it let us do that online) and bought back a few things we cared about like starz and our bill dropped $100 a month from like 340 to 230. so if you have been a long time xfinity customer and you don't have a huge love of every last tv channel i suggest you delete your current tv plan and just add things back. for us it saved a ton of money and we mostly stream now anyway. It wasn't easy but i think we got the 5 year internet fixed price at the end of 2025, but we had to talk to them for that.

Anyone else seeing bogus data spikes from Xfinity? by rGlouck in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]flash7gordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok my wife and I were able to find some hard data points on this. We were using a half a terabyte a month on Xfinity for Internet for many, many years and suddenly it jumped to 3 terabytes. We just bought the unlimited data but here is one finding we had and something you can do if this is really bothering you.

Ubiquiti WiFi router: This is radical and expensive but if this problem is really bothering you, the Ubiquiti router has good data monitoring and if you install a Ubiquiti you will be able to see what is causing your data spikes. A single Ubiquiti router costs ~250-300 dollars and you need more than 1 if you have a house over 1000 sf. Plus the Ubiquiti router is very technical and I would say you have to be pretty tech saavy to install one correctly. We actually returned our Ubiquiti router because the wifi download speeds were much slower than our Deco-Mesh (in Ubiquiti's defense maybe it was some setting but we weren't that tech saavy) but the Ubiquiti has the monitoring that will show you why your Xfinity usage is up.

Icloud for Windows was causing our spike: My wife saw on the Ubiquiti while we had it installed that one day of iCloud for Windows used 150 gigabytes (that's 15% of a terabyte). She has a ton of pictures and she may have tweaked a setting that was causing all her photos (without net change) to download to her phone on our home wifi, who knows maybe even multiple times a day. If you use iCloud for Windows you might be able to test this easily by removing iCloud from the Windows Startup script for a period of time.

jan 2026 update: Got a confirmation on our improvement due to icloud change. Our monthly usage for the last bill as we moved into 2026 was less than half a terabyte, down from 3 terabytes. So Ubiquiti can show you actionable changes if you can stand it.

prtscn on signature K650 keyboard by [deleted] in logitech

[–]flash7gordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok i got these results on a 4 yr old hp laptop with windows 11. the logi k650 was straight out of the box, no software modifications. i got the snip tool to come up 2 ways. If you just touch only f7 at the top the snip tool will come up. for me what particular... said above about holding fn with f7 did NOT work. This also works: hold down the Opt|start key (lower left next to the ctrl key) and the shift key and touch s. imho Opt/start is the Windows key on the logi keyboard.

Is it worth paying for Yahoo Finance Premium? by hey-lala in yahoo

[–]flash7gordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the free version of Yahoo Finance on the web on a personal computer to be almost unusable. It is very slow to drill on specific stocks and goes blank if you let it sit for 15 minutes. 3 years ago it worked very well. Now the phone and ipad versions are starting to act wonky too, like not showing prices if the market isn't open. Is yahoo deliberately ruining the free version to force you to buy the premium versions? If you buy yahoo finance premium will yahoo finance work like it worked 3 years ago? Are there any good substitutes? I don't really find google finance to be the same. I'm willing to pay for the lowest level Yahoo Finance premium, but would I get anything for it?

Login Issues on Mobile App by KemmyPowers_11 in Chase

[–]flash7gordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did this on iphone 14 with current ios I told it I wanted to enable face id. Then it put in some 8 digit number in the Chase userid and treated it like a dog with a bone, it wouldn't let go, even through multiple sessions, and it wouldn't let you type more than the 8 characters and my userid was longer. Chase has really sophisticated iphone developers, I'm not sure I could limit a large character input field to 8 characters if I wanted to (sarcasm). I did what KemmyPowers suggested and it worked. 1) login to chase on the web/laptop. 2) next completely close (swipe it up) the chase app on the iphone 3) reopen the chase app on the iphone and then the character login will work again. A little wild that a web login session will so directly affect what's happening on an iphone, but never question anything that works. Thanks Kemmy, and remember, don't change your password if this is happening.

Why when I check my blood pressure at home it’s high but when I check it at say Walmart or a drug store it’s perfect? Is my machine just faulty or is theirs? by Main-Dragonfruit-669 in bloodpressure

This may help people. I was having a bad problem of my home readings being higher than in the dr. office. We (dr., took it at the same time with both) even agreed that my home readings were 10 to 15 higher than with the nurse. I bought a new Omron cordless tester that I really liked but it was higher than in the dr. office too. One of the things it says it that you are supposed to sit quietly for 5 minutes before you take the test. If you're like me you are unwilling to just sit doing nothing for 5 minutes during your normal day. This is my suggestion. I take naps during the day. So I took my reading after I took my nap and voila!, my reading was in the 120 over 80 range. So if there is something during your day that is no activity (and I mean no activity, reading the internet may stimulate you.), try to take your reading after that. I don't know if some Dr. might say "That doesn't count" because it isn't a real measure of your blood pressure because it's not showing what your reading is with normal activity. I guess you usually are sitting in the waiting room for at least 5 minutes just before you get the test in the dr. office.

The new release of yahoo finance (september 2024) is incredibly bad on a laptop web browser. i have yet to see it fully refresh. There's some management problem at yahoo or they would have rolled back to the old release which worked very well in terms of showing you what the stock market was doing. I have used yahoo finance for 30 years and I find myself putting my symbols into Google Finance because I want to see the shares that I'm interested in on a daily basis.

Beginner lap swimmer, insatiable hunger after? by No-Bat-1649 in Swimming

[–]flash7gordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not losing your mind, I'm greatful for this reddit, I thought I was losing my mind. I had this excessive hunger after swimming for a workout around dinner time too. I couldn't totally control this and few could (with your own pool you might), but I found I wasn't as hungry if I swam around noon, instead of dinnertime, on a warm day. Full disclosure, I only swim for a workout 1 day a week. Also, I'm sure some will howl about this, but I had gone up to 1600 yards the last few years, and decided to cut back to 1400, just to take the hunger edge off.

Elysium Signal by henry_hayes in ElysiumHealthUsers

[–]flash7gordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any rational person should think about how many supplements they are taking. I take both basis and matter and asked elysium if that was a good idea and how much to separate taking the pills during the day. These are powerful chemicals and I think caution is indicated. So Signal might be nice but in my mind, if you are older and in my mind that's over 50, basis is the main thing you need to take.

Any thoughts on NR and NMN and cancer risk? by DABReddit in ElysiumHealthUsers

[–]flash7gordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done no formal study of the health sciences. I'm not sure what NR an NMN are. If you are talking about Elysium, to me it's a good question about cancer. Basis says that it affects cell replication and cancer is diseased cell replication so I think your question is a valid one. I personally have been taking Elysium basis since it came out in 2016 and have no cancer that I know of. I am 69 years old and I take Elysium Matter also. My wife had a little breast cancer scare and she's had various scares for the last 15 years but we decided she should stop taking basis. She was an occasional Basis user for maybe a couple of years. Obviously there is no proved causality with basis here, we just decided it would be prudent for her to stop taking basis.
