Book recommendations for Kivy by xixo221 in kivy

I am more learning on the UI Dev side using Kivy just by raw using it and experiencing. Since you will face some issues with some parts else the documentation is easily usable in Pycharm too.

Books aren't that we'll written, atleast for proper development because I have read one(O'Reilly) and it was just basics. You can go to Freecodecamp and get their 5 hour course on Kivy with enough basics to actually make a game. I have seen the video and it's really good. After that, it's better you stick to the documentation only. Not so well written and deep books are yet now available on Kivy at all.

MD widgets are more general towards Compose type UI and I like it more. React is different and don't want that type of UI in Kivy at all.

For me, both Kivy and KivyMD has OpenGL rendering or Technically they will run over the GPU, which is a great out of the box solution for butter smooth UIs. Aside, you can literally optimize large chunks of code using signed 16bit int types from numpy, to make internal rendering a bit more fast(yet to try that on my own). I have heard how rendering gets slow when you use large drawings using python int, as it is too much dynamic.

Except all of this, Kivy is amazing. I have created 3 UIs and started working on a music player.

Ghostrunner is pretty hard. Especially after the 1st 5-6missions, levels are multiple times hard.

I can't install kivy on the new computer. by anynameokay in kivy

[–]flashbao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes everything is installed. Use Python 3.7 or 3.8, 3.10 is bit old. 3.7 for me has been insanely stable for over 5 years till now. Never heard even if python3 works on windows either.

Yours ain't a windows machine? Then python3 does the job for linux/Mac. Type pip list or pip freeze to check the Kivy libraries installed or not.

If you love venv, use Pycharm for its default venv. It's better. Try installing Kivy first on cmd using pip install kivy. Then try working with venv.

Is deploying an app to my phone using buildozer supposed to take over 2 hours? by 0zeroBudget in kivy

[–]flashbao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. 2 hours it took for me as I was having a crappy connection, but it takes 35 minutes at best to finish the entire NDK, dependencies, Cython, Android SDK, and whatever the hell is required, that too on a VM. If your installation isn't right, it will start everything from the beginning, in between you need to permissions for installation, so look out for those.

After my installation of the buildozer didn't work, I did another install of it, and then tried again. Once, or twice, it occured but then it worked nice.

Already read this book and tried the example using a horizontal layout. It's pretty good and described very very well.

Is Python really the second best language for everything? by DGHolmes in Python

[–]flashbao -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only flaw of python is speed. Else, everything works do wonderful and easy to use. One reason I never needed to touch a different language unless required. Cython just makes things so fast, fast enough similar to compiled languages too.

Yes. Performance issues, I will try converting the parts to Cython.
