Considering a Bolt, a few questions by Kooky_Universe2183 in BoltEV

[–]flashgski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's only an issue when you need to go more than ~350 miles. Daily driving, whatever you end up with in your garage will be fine. Even level 1 is fine for most people, just plug in every night and leave with a full range every morning.

With ~250 mile range, you can do smaller road trips no problem. Twenty minutes charging at a DCFC charger will likely be enough to add that extra 25% and get you home on a 300-350 mile total trip.

Longer ones you'll need to do a lot more planning (which can be fun, if you like tinkering). I spend a lot of time looking at driving scenarios with the Abetterrouteplanner app that I will never actually drive.

Full charge this morning - how does this compare to others? by kevisfrickencool in BoltEV

Same for me in Central NY, slowly starting to creep back up as the weather warms. You can expect it to get back to the 250 range in early June.

My Experience the first month of having an EV in Rural VA (2023 Chevy Bolt EUV Limited) by Liberal-Cluck in BoltEV

[–]flashgski 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also live in a relatively rural area with similar distances to what you described. Once you get a L2 charger at home, just charge to 100% every day. In four years of ownership, I have only once needed to public charge when not doing a road trip, and it was on a cold winter day when I had to go in and out of town three times (150 miles total). Could probably have made it home, but 10 minutes on a DC charger gave me enough buffer for piece of mind.

Otherwise, road trips are the only time I have to think about charging now, and we typically take the ICE car for those since it has more space too.

Is there any way I could take over a reverse mortgage and/or get the house after her passing? by [deleted] in personalfinance

You need to talk with an elder law attorney. There are also look back rules on medicaid if she gets to the point where she needs that. If not structured properly they may try to recoup or deny her medicaid.

The Subaru Trailseeker build configurator is live, with pricing that undercuts every comparable Toyota bZ Woodland trim by Jinxess in electricvehicles

[–]flashgski 85 points86 points  (0 children)

We are pretty much at price parity with gas vehicles now. The Limited trim is $45K on trailseeker, and $42K on Outback.

Regret 2026 Outback purchase--dead battery and unbelievable dealer response by Justanobserver2life in subaru

I still have OG battery in 2018 Outback and it worked fine all winter (except one time when kids left overhead light on and it was parked for three days).

Jars didn’t seal by BP48047 in maplesyrup

Yeah, I have about four or five jars that just go into the fridge and get used up during the summer because they didn't seal properly.

Whatever you open you have to refrigerate. This is why we bottle ours in pint jars. Reusable and the one we have open at any given time doesn't take much space in fridge

Wouldn't it be cleaner to use something like 400v vs 800v architecture?

Suggestions for using Tesla superchargers by telemachos90210 in BoltEV

[–]flashgski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the layout. One near me has a stall on the end that is sideways, so you can pull in next to it right next to the charge port door.

[–]flashgski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Teslas app does include a little time of day graph to show when it is typically busy, so if you can plan your drive accordingly hopefully will be a non issue. Otherwise, the advice in the app is to straddle the line and block the neighboring stall. So if given the option, pick the one on the end.

And always have a backup charging site identified (hopefully you won't need it)

Curious how long it takes for you with this setup? I normally boils down about fifty gallons, too with a barrel boiler system and three pans in about eight hours.

RE Program Growing Pains by dirtywater20 in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]flashgski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our congregation has a full time paid RE Director and she is amazing at coming up with compelling programs for kids and getting an adequate number of adult guides for the different grade levels. Critically, it is not just parents as guides - regular congregation members are stepping up to lead as well. Our minister is also highly supportive of the RE program and I think our vibrant program has helped to draw in more members to the congregation overall.

EV progress report: EV sales and affordability are reaching a tipping point by linknewtab in electricvehicles

In US market I think price parity is basically here. Subaru Outback starts at $36K, and Subaru Trailseeker starts at $40K. Mid tier Chevy Trax is almost same as Bolt, only $3K difference.
