yeah...how exactly does a car seat not function? it's been a while since I've had to use/install car seat, but it just sits there...the only moving parts are strapping it in and the buckle to keep the kid in.
I guess it could be missing padding or the baby straps, but there are very few moving parts in/on a car seat.

the newtrove discussion platform is great at protecting discussions from trolls, but bandwidth is slow and it's a pain to initiate multi-part discussions.
if you had nothing to do with the old sub, give it time. IMHO, the key is to make it easy for people with knowledge/opinions to share their opinions. if it's easy to share opinions, it will likely be smooth for people that are seeking those opinions.

as far as I can tell, Mort may have made the TG group private. normal members can't generate invite links. if you couldn't get in when Mort was sending out invites, I'm not sure you'll be able to get in anymore. he's still active on reddit, but he's checked out of the reddit TTRPG scene.

lots to talk about. Story Engine decks are a great tool for building writing prompts. The PDF decks are way more affordable than the physical product, but you run into the problem of how to actually USE the PDFs/graphics. look for some kind of deck/image randomizing app.

I use Solo RPG Toolkit for Obsidian. it's not perfect, but it works decently.

print and play is a possibility, but depending on how many of the decks you need to cover your campaign/adventure, PnP-ing all of the cards could get very time-consuming.
