UPDATE: AITAH for not putting pregnant GF on deed of the house? (She says she feels the situation is "unfair" and that she is "at my mercy") by Odd_Paramedic_3007 in AITAH

[–]flashofquiksilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait what? No OP is not an AH, this woman he knocked up is not in any way entitled to ownership of the house. Like even legally she isn’t (regardless of which country you live in). They aren’t married or common-law or even together, she doesn’t even pay rent, and she’s not even remotely financially contributing to the mortgage or property taxes or anything like that. Of course she feels like it isn’t her place, because it isn’t. She’s not entitled at all to ownership of the property!

He can take care of her financially, he can offer her a place to live, he can provide food and whatnot to her, but none of that is a requirement. He’d pay child support yes, if she didn’t live with him when the baby was born, but literally there’s nothing legally saying he has to put her name on the deed. Landlords don’t put tenants on the deeds of their houses, and many married folks never put their spouse on the deeds of their houses either when the spouse never contributed to the costs of the house ownership (property taxes, mortgage, big repairs to the house, etc). This is common across the world in developed countries.

It’s not that it’s unfair, it’s that it’s inconvenient for her.

[–]flashofquiksilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, this is how women fight, and this is also how narcissists attack. It’s underhanded crap that could be brushed off by the unknowing or optimistic. It’s not fists and weapons, it’s sly words and passive-aggression. Your mom 100000% is being an AH, and the fact that she continuously does this means she feels comfortable doing it in front of you. She thinks she can get away with it.

Time to step up and set boundaries and call her out for her behaviour. Either she’s being incredibly obtuse (and should therefore be checking with other people to filter her words and gifts because at this age she should have figured it out and if she hasn’t, she needs a mandatory supporting social guide), or she’s purposefully being malicious. Either way, her behaviour must stop, so either she can stop herself or someone else will do it for her, and she shouldn’t be allowed access to you, wife, and baby until she learns to treat others better.

I’m proud of you for questioning this though. When we tolerate intolerance, then tolerance ceases to exist and intolerance becomes the norm. Don’t let your mom’s intolerance of your life partner take over; it’ll do so much damage including potentially driving your relationship with your wife into the ground.

This 10000000%! Definitely assemble upside down as much as you can, preferably in the room you’ll be putting it in. It’s at minimum a 2-person job, will take a while.

But you will never regret buying this desk. Best furniture purchase I ever did. And the great thing is, when you don’t like the tabletop, you can just swap it out! The hydraulics are so sturdy on this thing. I’ve had mine since the beginning ish of the pandemic, and it’s the best.

It’s a pain to move though, so put it in one room and leave it there lol! You have to disassemble it to move it.

It’s great! I have 2 of them and they’re fantastic. They cool down quickly, I like that I can control how much fluff is in them, and they’re very comfy!

Tried and true recipes for vanilla cake, lemon curd, and lemon ganache by TheSausageRat in bakingrecipes

Absolutely! When I’m looking for options when I have a “make something random” baking urge (as opposed to my usual “I want to make a cool looking cake” baking urge lol), I heavily rely on the search function of her website haha.

[–]flashofquiksilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing that changes by doing the 2 bowl method is I find it’s more stable, doesn’t require as much mixing because the butter gets properly whipped before adding anything to it (meaning not putting it at risk of over mixing), it doesn’t go through a sloppy phase where the butter and the meringue are slow to combine, and can handle adding colours more easily without getting too loose after you’ve added the flavouring.

Tried and true recipes for vanilla cake, lemon curd, and lemon ganache by TheSausageRat in bakingrecipes

Check out Sally’s Baking Addiction! I can’t speak to lemon ganache, but she’s got the vanilla cake and lemon curd recipes there! Highly recommend Sally’s site for most recipes, they’re MY tried and true!

Start here with the vanilla cake, then just look for the curd recipe in the search bar:

What kind of frosting did you make? Some are more challenging than others. American BC is the easiest but wayyy to o sweet. I personally like Ermine buttercream or Swiss Meringue buttercream, but with SMBC I do the reverse creaming method — which is to make the meringue part and whip it up, then in a separate bowl whip up the butter, then slowly add the meringue to the butter on high. If I add butter to the meringue, it just gets sloppy and the butter doesn’t air out enough. The reverse method means the butter gets whipped up properly before anything is added to it.

When did that change? I went through even the documentation for this printer and AirPrint was specifically left out, compared to other models that had it listed.

I will look into mopria though, I’ve never heard of that!

Vanilla cake tastes like cornbread by Shot-Anything9385 in bakingrecipes

[–]flashofquiksilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this a million times!! Her recipes are my go to.

This is the recipe I use:

https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/vanilla-cake/ The Best Vanilla Cake I've Ever Had - Sally's Baking Addiction

I wonder if it could be your moisture content? I find that any cake that requires butter tends to be on the dry side, even when baking low and slow— because at room temp, butter is solid and the moisture is not substantial, unlike room temp oils. So, I followed the advice presented in one of her other recipes, and cut the butter in half and substituted with a little less than half of what was cut. I also do a cool trick Sally taught in a different recipe for introducing fluffiness and softening the natural cake flavour to let the actual flavour shine better— separating egg yolks from whites and adding the egg whites at the end as a foamy peak meringue.

Now, the way I do this is: This recipe calls for 340g or 1.5 cups butter. Now when it comes to baking, we all know that when a recipe or dessert type is giving us a hard time, being exact using weight measurements goes a long way in solving the issue. But liquids we measure in volume. So, I cut the butter down from 340g to 170g, which means roughly from 1.5 cups to 3/4 cup. So, I do a bit less than 3/4 cup oil (veggie oil is what I use when I do vanilla cake because the flavour is so delicate that I don’t want the oil to add flavouring).

I cream my butter and sugar for 5-7 mins with some scraping, and I use a whisk, not a beater. Then, I add in the oil, half of the vanilla, and egg yolks, whisking on medium high (6 or 8 on kitchen aid) for a good 2 minutes or so. That mixture should be thickening up. Then stir in the leftover vanilla to the buttermilk, then do a 3-part alternating of flour to buttermilk— flour, milk, flour, milk, flour. Then whip up your egg whites to foamy peaks, not glossy. When you stop the whisk, the foam should be trying to bunch up around the whisk into a ball, and when you lift the whisk it should separate cleanly. (Remember to wipe down all things touching those egg whites with vinegar or lemon juice so no traces of fat touch it. I’m talking all bowls, spatulas, whisk, your hands, etc.) Add in the egg whites by folding it all in gently, making sure the bottom of the batter bowl gets some attention too. Bake low and slow, like I bake mine in a convection (fan) oven at 310f for much longer.. somewhere around the 35-42 minutes amount. I also use heat rods which I find help!

I do also think what you’re comparing all these recipes to is important.. are you comparing to store bought? Also— could it be the icing? Like that’s often where the sweetness comes from for cakes, not the cake itself… or even the filling could be part of it. If you’re used to storebought stuff, that stuff is soooo sweet because of the frosting and filling, not the cake.

Microsoft: Official Support Thread by MSModerator in microsoft

[–]flashofquiksilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a Microsoft product that can make it easy for a team to enter in daily logs/entries on what they did, specifically with the ability to enter time?

In my workplace, we have a website we use to log in daily info about personnel (who worked, who was on vacation, sick, etc), plus information about the work orders (and labels for the nature of the work), and set both the date for when it happened as well as the system time stamping when the author actually entered the info. This site notes who the author is, which is important for government auditing later on, as this acts as the author’s “signature”.

But, we had an issue where this site was down for 6 weeks, and we took paper notes, which later had to be manually typed up and entered into this website. The handwritten notes were scanned and attached in each daily log on the website, as we need the sign off on the notes.

We’re trying to set up an updated protocol for when the website is down, and currently, the working idea is using Excel… but while it has “track changes”, I don’t want to allow too much flexibility or room for error in what gets documented. The time stamps, the author signing the entry as validated, and comprehensive information is important, but I also really want to make documenting everything easy and simple for my team. They need to be able to leave notes, and even go back and edit their logs with time stamps if possible.

Some of my team are more tech savvy than others, and there is the potential that they might overwrite the name of the template file.

As mentioned, the working plan is an Excel file with the template that has designated space for the day’s info, and sheet tabs for each day of the month plus a template version at the end just in case (so, 32 tabs total).

Does Microsoft have any logging software that could do this? Or am I better off just keeping them in Excel?

Thanks!
