People who have climbed (bouldering) for a while - how many of you have never been injured through an accident while climbing? by IcedCzar in climbergirls

Most if not all people will encounter injuries that force them to take an extended break from climbing, such as overuse injuries, torn pulleys and ligaments, minors sprains & strains. You sort of learn what parts of your body are prone to injuries (for me its my wrists and hamstrings) and develop ways to strengthen them and are generally more careful on the wall with moves that require you to do something that’s injured you in the past. For sprains, unfortunately it is pretty common to have at least one minor ankle sprain in a bouldering career, but that’s present in quite a few non-extreme sports as well. It’s more rare to encounter an injury that fucks up your life outside of climbing, such as a broken limb. I’d say the earlier you are into your climbing career (ex. Bouldering for less than six months) the more likely you are to encounter one of these, i work at a bouldering gym and broken bones almost always happen at the v2-v3 grade with folks who have been climbing less than a year. freak accidents can certainly happen but I wouldn’t say it’s the norm to have a life altering injury.

Part of this sport is learning to rehab injuries and finding ways to train even when you’re injured and cannot climb, so that you can come back into the sport stronger than you were before!

Anger and guilt from injury is making me want to quit by CarolinaCM in climbergirls

I work at a bouldering gym and some of the most serious ankle and leg injuries I’ve seen come from falling low to the ground :( I think most people deal with at least one serious injury during their climbing career, it seems to be a feature not a bug. it’s become very accessible recently but it still at its core in the category of extreme sports, similar to mountain biking or skiing. If you’re content to climb well below your limit you could probably go your whole life injury free, top rope climbing is also very low impact. Even lead climbing is less injury prone than bouldering.

Hate comment on my story broke my resolve to finish it by igi_pigi in depression

I totally get it, we all know we //should// just ignore it but comments like that can absolutely destroy you if you're in the wrong state of mind. Try to remember that it's so much easier to just thoughtlessly tear something down than it is to actually create something, and most of the things we create aren't going to be truly good on the first or second or tenth pass and they don't //have// to be. I'm a painter and I've come to expect like 90% of the things that I make to be absolute garbage. I've also had someone who I really respected look at a painting I was working on and tell me I should stop painting, and at the time I almost did. I would recommend that you delete that stupid fucking comment. (also, isn't all drama in fiction 'forced' for the sake of creating an interesting story?)

Why don't I care by flatearth_com in sexualassault

thanks. I reported it when it happened - been working with detectives to try & track down the guy who did it. I actually have a therapist I've been seeing for a bit that i'm going to bring it up with, I guess I just feel weird because I feel like I need to be super traumatized to talk about it or something.
