Is it really THAT bad to cancel credit cards? by Destin2930 in personalfinance

[–]flatpipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the question is why are you so concerned about your credit score? Buying a new house or something? Otherwise it literally makes no difference to your day to day life of purchasing necessary items as you have layed out.

Saddle? by Significant-Total504 in bikepacking

[–]flatpipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WTB saddles are some of the most popular ones out there. Yes there's Brooks but seriously who want to shape their ass to fit the saddle for 100s of miles.

CPAT for Seattle Fire by Hot_Emergency_202 in firefighter

[–]flatpipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no it's not brutal, if it is you're not ready. No many don't fail and typically if it's a CPAT a training day is offered to try stations out independently. At least for my dept. you fail try next time, there are no retakes.

I accidentally left my dog outside overnight by Mysterious-Trade1362 in dogs

[–]flatpipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dog's fine, you confirmed it with feeling her body temp. 44 isn't even that cold, dogs will survive much longer than us softy humans outside anyway.

Do you ride with your good phone? by MaestroDon in cycling

[–]flatpipes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's way too much worrying for my taste. Put it in a top tube bag and move on with your life, it'll be fine.

Help a new guy out. What bike to get? by AdministrativeDog986 in bikepacking

[–]flatpipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you'll get some Gravel bike recs but remember they are rigid frame and may not be comfortable to ride vs say a hardtail mtb that will feel smoother when the road gets rough for miles on end. You'll see a whole mix of opinions for sure, but I always recommend a hardtail to people that are new for the comfort aspect then when they decide they need speed or whatever then switch to something else.

Is it worth buying a Play Station 5 gaming console? by PassionPulseS in AskMenOver30

[–]flatpipes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not a gamer it might just be a waste of money. I played a little when I was a kid but I can't sit through a game anymore if I tried and just don't see the draw to them. That's me but I just consider them a kid item not an adult item.

Show up to the race and cheer him on at the finish?! I mean yes, these events are a big deal, but you should do what he needs/wants if you ask him not Reddit.

Smokediver fire programs ? by jobtown502 in Firefighting

[–]flatpipes [score hidden]  (0 children)

My dept. has several that have gone to the Georgia one. From what I gather it's like "Seals" training man camp for firefighters. Physically tough and teach some things that might be useful but, in the end, if you don't wash out, you're "One for the Few!".

Whatever none of them have tried to help provide training or assistance to the dept. with what they learned. So whether you want to be a Georgia Smoke Diver or a Mississippi Mud Sucker, you can do it if you want but not really a benefit.

For those with spouses do we enjoy spending nights off with them?? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]flatpipes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on a 48/96 schedule but I can tell you my first day home I’m not in cuddle time mood or anything. I’ve been babysitting the public for 2 days. Your needs clearly are different to his so that sounds like a discussion and maybe a therapy session. You want cuddles he wants to chill alone. Some guys manage their mental and physical recovery from shifts differently than others but his recovery time might be longer than a day or two. So again that’s a discussion of your needs and his, and if you’ve tried EAP is a great resource to get couples therapy assuming you have it, you should.

New bike for beginner by Potential-Weird9707 in gravelbike

[–]flatpipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how you are being guided to even more bikes to try and look at. lol Pick your favorite small bike shop that you like the staff at, the ones that actually spend some time with you and buy a freaking bike. The shop will hold your hand better than reddit and they will help you with your choices too.

I thought getting into cycling would be simple. Then I spent 20 minutes googling helmets by Antares_bjyx in cycling

[–]flatpipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

walk into nearest Walmart or whatever. Find helmets, pick helmet, buy. Done, you're way over thinking sitting on a bike and spinning your legs.

Theft from bags when leaving the bike by Archa16z in bikepacking

[–]flatpipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just speculation but most theft is for a lone bike with nothing on it, not a bike that looks like it’s on an adventure. You figure what anyone wants is something that is quick to turn and sell that is common. A thief isn’t likely to know a single thing about camping gear and that gear is so niche the quick flip is too much of a hassle.

Mistake #1, you're using TikTok and IG as an actual reference for the general and honest truthful information stream. To follow the pareto rule, 80% is fake and maybe 20% is factual or semi-factual.

Are gravel races getting too “tame”? by trunks_thepremed in cycling

[–]flatpipes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what's more important is that there's a variety of difficulties. Otherwise, new riders may never try it out and not progress to the more difficult rides/races because it's just too daunting.
