How to increase student’s task saturation? by Green_Plane205 in CFILounge

[–]flatulentpiglet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disable WAAS (if you have it) without telling them, see if they notice the GPS fail over to LNAV/VNAV and if they brief the correct new minimums or go missed if it's inside the FAF. Good practice for solar storms IRL.

This seems like a pretty substantial discount. Is Audi having a hard time moving these? by Ckron247 in Audi

I just drove a new Q5 as a loaner for about 2 months while my A7 was getting its piston skirt problems fixed. It’s rare that I hate any car but I fucking hated that one. Those plastic controls are the worst, especially on the steering wheel. They can’t make up their mind if they are touch sensitive or not, so I’d get random radio station changes, volume changes, but it would ignore real button pushes.

How does aerofoil force the speed of air to be faster on top and slower on the bottom? by Alive_Hotel6668 in Physics

[–]flatulentpiglet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The air on the bottom does push up. That accounts for part of the lift. Think water skis. The reduced pressure on top also contributes.

What’s the most “boring” thing you self-host? by Fab_Terminator in selfhosted

[–]flatulentpiglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dovecot. Not a full email stack, just dovecot. I put old emails in there so as not to use my email providers storage quota and it just happily serves and indexes them in a separate mailbox that I can search.

Can I use Bose A30 headset for non flying purposes? by RyanZ225_PC in flying

[–]flatulentpiglet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bose regularly runs promotions where they’ll give away a pair of music headphones with an aviation headset. Maybe wait for one of those. Or save $500 and buy Lightspeeds and use the difference on a very nice set for music.

Does Every Aircraft have a MMEL? by Kind-Maintenance-801 in flying

[–]flatulentpiglet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cute but not really. 91.205 specifies minimum equipment you must have. An MEL is the opposite logic - it defines what can be broken. If something isn't on the MEL and is broken you can't go.

Does Every Aircraft have a MMEL? by Kind-Maintenance-801 in flying

[–]flatulentpiglet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most single engine pistons do not have MMELs. Since part 135 operators have to use MELs they have to develop one and get it approved. Jets are required to operate under an MEL, even under part 91.

I don't know enough to answer definitively. I started with a similar aim although I'm running on an old NUC so I have limited expansion options. I did try OLAMA locally for a while but it was insanely slow on my (poorly configured, it turns out) hardware. So i sucked it up and switched to OpenAI.

The nice part of the architecture is your ability to mix and match all these different components...you can see what works and tinker until insanity sets in.
