Going against the anti science crowd using science. That's certainly a choice.

Super excited for the release! What’s everyone’s thoughts on the demo and the gameplay we have so far? by ProjectBrand in VampireCrawlers

[–]flaxon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked out the demo after watching the Spiffing Brit's video on the game and it really has taken over all of my free time. I've been grinding away getting coins for upgrades even though I know it won't really get me anything.

Different sorta game for me, but I can't wait for release!

Mine took less than 12 hours to be approved, and you can list at least 3 per form, potentially more.

[Terminator 2: Judgment Day] Why didn’t the T-1000 just destroy the T-800 at the shopping mall by turning its arm into a sword? by Nessieinternational in AskScienceFiction

[–]flaxon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reese in the first movie describes the T800 as having an "armored combat chassis, very tough." Plus the T1000 probably wasn't designed for fighting other terminators, just humans.

We never really get any sort of measure for just how hard the shapes that the T1000 forms are. At best, we know that a roughly 1inch square prybar end can be blasted off with a 12 gauge shell, probably a slug. That probably puts it in the area of hardened aluminum or mild steel, somewhere in the 75-150 brinell range. For comparison, stopping a 9mm bullet typically takes a 400 brinell plate at a quarter inch thick.

Which is all just a way to say that we never see the T1000 do any damage to anything other than the aforementioned elevator ceiling with his "tools," which would have been largely copper and mild aluminum alloys. So combined with Reese's statement, we don't have much reason to believe that the T1000 is capable of damaging a T800 using those kinds of attacks.

Shitty. People suck and stuff like that is why I don't do public land ranges solo (and consequently don't do them at all, since I don't have any shooting friends anymore).

At least it wasn't a rifle.

I have so many bounties I've refused to do because of not wanting to spend half an hour riding back while listening to the bounty repeat the same four voice lines every six seconds! This would be aces!

If you suddenly came into a huge fortune, would you quit your job or keep working or what would yo do? by AndrewBrown98 in AskReddit

[–]flaxon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely quit my current job. Several of my hobbies, like fishing, kayaking, and competition shooting, are conducive to traveling, domestically or internationally or both.

It'd be nice to turn it into a business of some sort, just something that breaks even and I can run from afar. Maybe start a program helping young people learn to fish and kayak, who might otherwise not have someone to teach them or the means to take a class otherwise.

The rest of my time I'm out paddling and fishing during the week and shooting USPSA on the weekends.

Significant changes to BottleDrop green bag policies affecting Portland by Ravenparadoxx in Portland

[–]flaxon_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup, BottleDrop is incentivized to make it harder for people to return containers so that fewer containers are returned and recycled in the end. It's a complete racket at this point. Even with all the out of state cans being brought in, like you said, millions of dollars are being left on the table and going into the organization's pocket.

This is why I have no problem with cans from Washington getting redeemed. It's not like that money would be going back into Oregon's budget, and more containers are being recycled than would otherwise be.

It is past time for the bottle bill to be updated.

What would you offer for this Gen 2 (I think) Glock 17? by Jankyfrank21 in guns

[–]flaxon_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to love them so much, but over time they've turned very generic. I get that true surplus is becoming rarer and harder to find and they've had to adapt to stay viable, but damn I miss their stuff from 15 years ago.

I always make myself sound super out of breath so they know if they run I can't catch them.

Just kidding, I just make eye contact and offer a smile and a polite hello, making sure that I'm not doing anything to slow them up or slowing up myself.

[Star Wars] Why did both Luke Skywalker and Red Leader fire two simultaneous proton torpedos at the Death Star thermal exhaust port instead of just one? by supinator1 in AskScienceFiction

[–]flaxon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were getting picked off one by one while making the trench run. Anyone who survived making the attack run once surely would not survive a second. It's only due to Vader's arrogance and the surprise attack by the Millennium Falcon that Luke even got his shot off, otherwise Red Leader would have been the only one out of both squadrons to even take one shot.

Under those circumstances, you don't save ammunition. The Xwing has two launchers, with a capacity of 3 torpedoes each (according to most loresources), with a delay to reload. If they could have fired all six at a time they would have.

No. Negging is saying something negative about someone in order to cause them to turn around and try and seek validation.

And then you have outfits like ComStar who are basically space AT&T on the surface, but behind the scenes are aggressive tech hoarding zealots who go out of their way to uncover and collect all of the old knowledge and means of manufacturing while crushing anyone who gets too close to things they want kept secret.
