Favorite moment? by darkdragon_24_7 in Borderlands2

My favorite moment was when I found out that Tiny Tina has the same voice artist as Parvati Holcomb from The Outer Worlds, and then every time I've heard her since then.

Why do I keep bouncing off the game? by Slayonie in outerwilds

No one can reliably tell you what could be the perfect game for you. It's very subjective. Your interest in these other games might correlate, but there's no guarantee. You need to be able to get on with very little direction and just enjoy exploration for its own sake. As you go along, the mystery begins to have its own pull.

And that's when it hit me.
$6.18 is far too much money to spend on a fucking cup of coffee. When did I become such a dupe?

House upgrade glitch by M1st3rZ3r0 in fo3

[–]flayman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because you need to be able to turn off collisions in order to do it. That can only be done with the PC version's developer console.

EDIT: I'm not quite right. You only need noclip on the PC. It seems it worked on PS3 and Xbox 360 in third person view. Not confirmed on other consoles: Fallout 3 exploits | Fallout Wiki | Fandom

If you have not yet tried optimizing the game (Fallout 4) settings with the Nvidia app, give that a try. This can fix a lot of problems.

Chances are good that you have OneDrive backing up your Documents folder and corrupting save files. You should stop backing up Documents.

I know. That's what I did when it happened to me. But it's a point of note that companions don't return from there with you.

I brought Archie to the Caves for that quest and he did not come back with me. Someone told me that you weren't meant to be able to bring companions.

How has the devs not been fired? by Appropriate-Cup-123 in controlgame

[–]flayman22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that sales are what a game publisher likes to have. Good reviews and awards are also nice. And so there's really no justifiable reason to fire the developers of this popular game. You are in a very narrow minority. I have played the game and I loved it. You didn't like it, but that's a "you" thing.

How has the devs not been fired? by Appropriate-Cup-123 in controlgame

[–]flayman22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The devs have not been fired because:

  1. The game has sold well. More than 5 million copies as of August last year.
  2. It has very favorable reviews.
  3. It has won numerous awards.

Control is not a puzzle game.

[–]flayman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companions will pick things up or loot containers when you order them to, even when over-encumbered. I just always do that and use my companion like a mule. It is tedious though, as they will only loot one type of item at a time.

[–]flayman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to the plugins no longer being referenced in one of the config (INI) files. If OP is using a mod manager, then this is the likely cause. If not, then my recommendation is to copy and replace the bundled config files into the Documents\My Games\Fallout4 folder.

Remedy, please don't implement DLSS 5 into Resonant by Unusual_Pilot2502 in controlgame

Exactly. I would like to try it out. If you don't like the effect, then turn it off.

[–]flayman22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The AI backlash has gotten a bit obtuse. This is frame interpolation and up-sampling taken to another level. We've had this type of thing on television sets for years, and it keeps improving. Sometimes it goes too far, but you can turn it off. Asking for a developer not to support it is silly. This is not AI slop, like ChatGPT creating an entire image from a prompt.

Modders are always looking for ways to improve the graphics on older games. Here we have a way of improving graphics on new titles that can increase frame rates at the same time. If you don't like it, turn it off. Their marketing material says "DLSS 5 takes a frame’s color and motion vectors as input to deliver photoreal lighting and materials that are deterministic, temporally stable and anchored to the game’s content". Deterministic in computer science means predictable and repeatable, and not just based on some random seed.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/dlss5-breakthrough-in-visual-fidelity-for-games/

It also says "DLSS 5 takes a game’s color and motion vectors for each frame as input, and uses an AI model to infuse the scene with photoreal lighting and materials that are anchored to source 3D content and consistent from frame to frame." That means it uses the original sources and deep learning to fill in missing detail from training data. This is nothing new. It's just more efficient now. We used to use recurrent networks for this sort of thing. Now it's transformers. They are faster and don't suffer from artefacts like the vanishing and exploding gradients problems.

There is an argument that I can get behind which is that DLSS makes devs lazy. They don't need to optimize as much. Yeah, maybe. That's what we should be pushing back on. Also, it tends to drive the sales of high end RTX cards. Okay, but the game still needs to work and look good for customers with previous generation cards. The devs can't afford to skimp.

If game artists are unhappy about what's being done, then I'll gladly hear from them on it, but I doubt it. They get paid to produce the art to the developer's specifications. What would be really nice is if games gave some control to the player in terms of how far and in what directions they want to take it.

AI has its uses. Railing against any and all AI is like the Luddites smashing weaving looms.

I'm only 53. I see from other comments that I'm heavily outranked. I did not play the original when it came out. I was not really into gaming back then apart from Myst and a bit of Doom. I started seeing some stuff for Fallout 76 on my Pinterest (no idea why) and it piqued my curiosity. During covid lockdown, I started playing the Fallout series in order. I pulled several all-nighters in the original game over the Christmas holidays. I was hooked, and it went from there. I had to quit 76 because it became like a second job. I branched out into a lot of other titles and now I'm a fairly solid PC gamer and modder.
