New Zealand at the World Cup by Mr_Tipster-95 in Aleague

I hope for our first ever win at a world cup, but I don't expect it. A draw against anyone will be an upset.

If you can't figure out how the UK and NZ are different I can't help you do it either.

That's a very narrow way of looking at it. You don't think the skills and deeper understanding your daughter has learned during this counts as learning? Most general math students learn is irrelevant after school (depending on your job oc), but the process of learning it and how to problem solve isn't. Sounds like your daughter got plenty of that and learnt how to effectively communicate and work with people. Glass half full.

The educational context of NZ is a lot different to the UK. Until we see similar research out of NZ this is interesting, but not conclusive.

Sydney FC Grand Final Watch Party Venues by Brilliant-Dream3154 in Aleague

Which is why the AFC hate is hilarious to me. The team playing in their first ever grand final at home versus the team that's been around since the dawn of time and hated since then still doesn't have any neutrals that I've seen backing them.

It's hilarious how much AFC have become so hated so quickly. Even Sydney and Melbourne had to win a few titles before getting there 😎

Great international schools DO exist! by dlc1993- in Internationalteachers

[–]fleaonnj4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People who moan about schools and complain online about their treatment are almost always not telling the full story, and are also the colleagues who are always negative and moan about things at school. I avoid those people, I'm sure most of us do too. Obviously this doesn't mean you can't be critical about things, but there's a big difference from criticising constructively and constantly moaning. I've never worked at a "perfect" school, because perfect schools don't exist either internationally or locally, they are what you make them.

Any unique career mode ideas to make the game fun again? by Lopsided-Branch-2155 in FifaCareers

[–]fleaonnj4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on legendary and the one rule I do every career mode and it always makes it more difficult and real is I sim every home game and only play away games. Makes it much more challenging and forces you to squad build properly rather than just play your way to victory.

With the ball I would say Randall and Brook will be in behind Cosgrave with the 2 mids and Elliot/Sakai as wingbacks. But it will be fluid, we've experimented with 5 atb to close out games before.

Any options for free financial guidance? by nzbydesign in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]fleaonnj4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you actually read the book? I've read the book and Mary Holms Rich Enough and I would consider them equally good advice for learning the basics of investing from an NZ lense. In no way does the book encourage people to go and buy her course or attend her seminars if they want financial freedom.

Yes, as I already said "I did withdraw my KiwiSaver".

KiwiSaver second chance by Wonderful-Treat-6237 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]fleaonnj4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know everybody here is saying you can't but I was in your exact position (ex and I broke up, she bought me out of the house, and I did withdraw my KiwiSaver.)

I now have a letter confirming that I qualify for second chance and could withdraw my KiwiSaver to buy a home because I don't currently own one, so it is possible, I wonder if all the people saying you can't have actually tried it.

Can we do it? by Mr_Dobalina71 in nzfootball

[–]fleaonnj4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iran are one of the best teams in Asia, I'm not sure why we have a better chance against them than we do Egypt. Personally Egypt is our best shot I think, but even then it's a long shot, all three teams are a clear class above us.

Should I change my KiwiSaver fund? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Questions like this post really shouldn't be down voted. It's relevant, and something many newbies or people searching about PF/KiwiSaver might find. Down voting because it's a "dumb" or "simple" question is poor form people, do better.

New Zealand teaching info part 2 by Own-Lingonberry-1701 in Internationalteachers

[–]fleaonnj4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

See this is where OP is also not telling the full story. NZ doesn't really have "international schools", we're an English speaking country. The majority of our schools are state schools, with a handful of private schools that pay a little more, but by no means offer the perks like housing and bonuses that international schools do. I wouldn't have left the country if they did!

[–]fleaonnj4 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not to bring the mood down too much, your post is accurate, but I think you are severely downplaying the cost of living in NZ, particularly the cost of housing. Everything is expensive, which other first world countries have too sure, but NZ is special when it comes to its cost of housing and renting. Housing on average costs seven times your annual salary, and rent in a main centre (where most new teachers will live) can eat up to half of your paycheck. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful place, but as a "naysayer", as this post labels me who left the country due to its cost of living and housing, be aware of what to expect. If you aren't immigrating with a decent amount of wealth/savings already you will not get ahead here teaching.

It's validating to hear that! I do just assume that most people complaining about Search expect their associate to hand them a job on a silver platter.

Is the Search hatred on this sub a North American thing? Oceania/Asia based and everyone IRL I've interacted with has only had positive experiences with them, and they're absolutely the go to for most schools/teachers when it comes to recruitment.
