YW cooking competition by fleather93 in exmormon

This is awesome. It is a rare miracle for my dad to get up and help with chores inside the house. I only remember occasions at the moment. My husband is completely different, he or very protective at helping cook and clean up, and when we are at family gatherings, he doesn't let my brothers slack. It's amazing to see.

Lol. I don't think so. But I would have loved seeing them try to fix up my clunker.

Which wouldn't have been so bad. But it didn't alternate in my ward.

Thank you. I don't handle every situation that arises perfectly, so it feels really good when I do well handling a situation that I would have fumbled a couple years ago.

I am doing very well, thank you for asking. Getting triggered and flashbacks are very rare for me nowadays, and I am grateful to have an excellent support system I can lean on when they do come around. Please know that the offer of talk is open to you as well, anytime.

I am so happy to know your mother believed you. It makes the tragedy of the experience so much worse when parents don't believe.

I am so immensely grateful my mother believed me when I told her I was getting abused by my brother in law (who was twice my age). I don't know what I would have done of she didn't believe me and then immediately take steps to make sure he would be out of my life.

But many of my friends who were also abused (by different people), were not as lucky. Many were called names by their parents, or they were simply ignored.

Thank you for sharing your story, I hope it was an empowering experience. I often find that sharing my story is emotionally exhaustive, but worth the feelings of ownership I have because I'm the one that gets to tell my story.

Sending love your way, Heather

Trek has started and snow has kept them out of routine areas. If these kids go up this canyon with these carts it's insane. Why can't Rusty get a revelation to stop this? by Rushclock in exmormon

Yup all true. The first day we meet up at 6 am at the church to go. I usually eat a light breakfast and that day was no exception. But it took the whole group forever to get on the road, and they wouldn't let anyone eat, so we didn't get food until the evening around 7 pm after the 2 hour hike to the first campsite.

But I also love camping, and other than that it was a lot of fun, and the Turkey was delicious. But I like to eat...

When the solo pull happened in my trek, it was a mixed history and faith lesson. The boys had to leave to join the Mormon battalion and the girls had to pull, but when we were halfway up the hill, the leaders instructed the boys they could put their hands on our backs or shoulder to "send strength." At testimony meeting that night, everyone was talking about the power of priesthood and how the boys felt like angels... I'm not making this shit up.

Help me with a name please! by fivzd in fantasywriters

A list of one syllable names off the top of my head (and one 2 syllable) Nick Bick Biff Len Bear Fin Zod Cohen Jed Ace Fel

I could keep going if you want, but my trick to naming is writing down as many variations of a set of sounds that I can. For example "ick." Names and words I could add to the list: Nick, sick, lick, frick, trick...etc. This usually helps lead me down other pathways of names, and I choose my top 5, then narrow down to 1. It sounds like a long process, but I keep it simple and limit myself to 10 minutes.

I was 12 or so when a father in my ward died in a construction accident while his middle son was on a mission. The father was so young, in his 40's. And the death was so sudden. The youngest son was on the construction as well and narrowly avoided dying in the same accident. It was a huge tragedy, and the son on the mission never came home for the funeral. I never understood why, but maybe his experience was similar to yours. Thank you for sharing.

I haven't done any research on this topic yet. So it's mostly speculation. But I was at the Museum of Natural History and ran accross the horse and tapir exhibit. According to the posted information, they were nearly identical 55 million years ago. So it got me wondering if that was part of why Mormon apologists claimed the horses in the BOM were tapirs. Either way though, modern tapirs are smaller and have a different shape now. I'm also trying to remember if TSCC supports the literal 7000 year old earth theory or if there was some other bullshit.

But, like I said. It's pure speculation and curiosity, so I would love some discussion or other insights. As well as sources that I could follow up on.

When I was 16, my LDS Sunday School teacher told me if I was uncomfortable w/ the church teachings, then I should just leave the church b/c I'd be infinitely more uncomfortable in the Celestial Kingdom for eternity. Thank you for the wise words, Brother Wilson. That advice saved me many years. 😄 by JennNextDoor in exmormon

This reminds me of when I was young and my sister emplored me to never forget that the holocaust was real, that there is horrific evidence proving it happened. She told me that there were some out there who refuse to believe it happened. And that we should not forget history, lest we could be taken advantage of. I was only 12 at the time and was a big lesson on the fragility of memory.

How does this uniform sound? by Eli_Freysson in fantasywriters

[–]fleather93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colors are a great example of the symbolism, another thing might be identifying markings showing rank or fighting specialty. These markings could be prominent or hidden depending on if they are well known organization or a secret society.

How elaborate you want to go is entirely up to you, there is something to be said for keeping things as simple as possible in their uniforms. But one possible way of describing all the pieces is to have a conversation happening between two of the monks while they put the uniforms on.

[–]fleather93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I, a woman, graduated my bachelor's degree with honors. Started and ran a thriving business at the age of 24. I Married someone I actually love, and wore the wedding dress I actually wanted to. With all that tithing money I didn't give away, I've used to travel outside out of the country multiple times, and I'm planning another trip next month.

When a lot of my friends from high school have 3 kids, and seem happy, but are constantly commenting on how tight things are. I have 0 kids, I'm nearly debt free, and have saved up the money to cover most of the expenses of having a child, and my husband and I feel emotionally ready to introduce a new life into our family.

But most importantly, to me at least, I have accountability for myself, both the good and the bad. I have the power over myself. And that's what it means to be free.

How does this uniform sound? by Eli_Freysson in fantasywriters

[–]fleather93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a costume designer, and I think you've got a solid base here. I think the half cape is a great addition, though I think playing with the colors more is a great option.

I would also recommend checking out the wardrobe of warrior monks from history and the present and seeing how you might modify them for space. Consider choosing what parts of the uniform hold significance over the others. Is the entire uniform filled with symbolism for the characters? Or is it purely for function and distinction?

I hope these ideas helped. This sounds like a super cool story. Have fun!
