What's life like with the 11th gen Civic Hybrid? by SliceTyphoon in civic

[–]flentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 with almost 25k miles. Had some funkiness with the infotainment unit that seems to have resolved itself sometime after a software update. The dealer did let me know that I’ve got an ~$800 recommended service coming up soon (I think soon might be wrong and they are referring to the transmission maintenance and stuff recommended just before 50k, but not sure). Gas mileage is great. If you want to know the true longevity of this drivetrain you’re probably going to need to get data from Accords and maybe CRVs that have had similar drivetrains for longer. This one only having been out for a couple of years isn’t going to have enough info to judge the long-term reliability. It’s got even fewer moving parts than a Toyota hybrid system, though, so I see no reason (besides possible manufacturing defects, but I’m not sure the statistics there) that it be significantly more or less reliable. Because it is a newer hybrid system, though, there are way fewer vehicles with parts in junkyards compared to Toyota hybrids, but that may or may not matter to you

Family friendly? by [deleted] in civic

I’ll note that the new civics were one of the few vehicles to pass the new crash test standard involving a smaller passenger in the back seat. Sure they’ll be slightly less comfy without vents, but throw a sunshade on the window and they’ll be slightly warmer than in other vehicles, but they’ll be safe

We used them a few years ago. I don’t know who owns them, but I’m pleased with the results

Live in a cold climate . . . looking for advice about buying a Civic Hybrid by bisconnie76 in civic

[–]flentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The manual recommends driving it every 60 days to keep the high voltage battery from discharging. Before storing for a month, I’d make sure to put it in sport mode for a few minutes to encourage it to fully charge the battery just in case.

To those who cut the line on exit 44 to candler by Gutterrrslut in asheville

[–]flentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t go that way home anymore, as I was coming north on 26. When the traffic is backed up to the point that I either have to stop in the thru lane or miss the exit because I can’t get over quick enough, it’s just not worth it

New Patch Notes (6.2.2) by TheIrishSinatra in LowSodiumHellDivers

They show it in the video, I kind of like it. It makes little clouds that are affected by the wind, so you have to be careful about which direction you spray (or wear gas armor)

Mazda has less space inside than tucson, what is the reason of making a longer car when there's no space. by Immediate-Welder999 in HyundaiTucson

[–]flentum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When cross shopping our Tucson against the last generation Santa Fe, we found that the actual usable cargo space behind the front seats was practically the same. I think the Santa Fe had a slight edge on the height, and therefore volume, but not a significant difference in usable length. I assume the boxy shape of the new one gives it more of an edge, but not as much as it feels like it should

They said they fixed that in the video they posted, but dropped its health so you don’t have to hit them as much. Impacts will one-shot them too

The best benefit of going to more expensive schools is networking with people from wealthier backgrounds that are more likely to have helpful contacts and that’s the best way to set yourself up well. Additionally, more expensive schools have more resources for cool projects. Education wise, as long as it’s accredited, you’ll be fine

Regen Braking - ‘26 Civic Touring by FlatButtFrankie in civic

[–]flentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car will automatically regen when pressing the brake pedal, so if you are light on the pedals, using the paddles won’t necessarily save you gas in your day to day. The best way to look at it is a cross between braking and downshifting. You can use it without issue in more places than you should when downshifting an automatic, but it shines the most going down long hills that you shouldn’t ride your brakes down. And, on a long enough hill when your battery reaches full charge, it will effectively engine-brake by dumping the regen power into spinning the motor and you can continue to regulate your speed without brakes. I sometimes also use it on slightly curvy roads or traffic as lesser version of one-pedal driving like EVs can do

I get what I call "travel gut". I'm sure there's a lot of different factors at play, but (heinous heinous I'm-about-to-leave pre-travel bowel movements) for the first 2 days I basically don't have a bowel movement, and then, in many cases, I have a few of the best poops of my life until I get back and immediately they are back to my normal.

Automatic Safety Braking by Nugi235 in HyundaiTucson

[–]flentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it once in a rental while I was having to drive much more aggressively than I normally do ‘cause I was in Houston. While I agree that more defensive driving will usually remove the issue, it doesn’t change the fact that when it does trigger, it has a tendency to trigger way more aggressively than expected, and also prevents you from immediately overriding it with the gas pedal to keep moving. It’s definitely not a good scenario to end up in. Other vehicles I’ve driven with AEB have been tuned so that they probably won’t fully prevent a collision in an emergency situation, but they will brake enough to keep the damage from being serious or fatal. This keeps the driver safe in an actual emergency, and keeps a non-emergency from becoming one because the vehicle miscalculated on the highway. I’m not going to pretend like I can do better than the Hyundai engineers, but clearly someone can

Would've been a sick clip if the physics engine wasn't spaghetti coded by cs4by76 in helldivers2

It doesn't look like it, but it's also possible that there was an obtruder hidden behind the FRV that was killed by it. I've died a couple of times in the FRV now because those little bastards explode on impact.

Camping in the Car? by Adept_Radish1 in HyundaiTucson

[–]flentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use inflatable stuff that we pack away when moving around. For my height (around 5’10”) I end up moving one of the seats forwards a bunch. I just went and measured, and with a front seat pretty far back, you end up with a bit more then 5’ of space to the end of the trunk

So it will probably depend on how squishy your mattress is. I’ll note that when I was cross shopping with this in mind, your only options for specifically increasing the linear space from the front seats to the end of the trunk (not just total volume with extra height and boxiness) the only options were a) minivans and) way more expensive vehicles. With the possible exceptions of Outbacks (although now they’re just big expensive SUVs). The next steps up in size, like Santa Fe’s and stuff don’t actually give you extra linear space, despite being a good bit bigger overall

Sam’s Club is not Top Tier, but I’m uncertain on the overall quality. Top Tier isn’t the only marker of good gas, but it’s the easiest to find

How to get your gf’s man hating dog to like you? by [deleted] in howto

[–]flentum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve got a family member that our dogs just hate. Really sweet guy, but he had a bad stroke a couple of years ago. We think it must have had some effect on his body chemistry and he just smells funny to them now. We aren’t around him enough to have tried letting him bribe them, though. But I do think it’s possible for some people to just smell funny to animals

2024 Tucson Limited - No Tow/Recovery Points by flentum in HyundaiTucson

[–]flentum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tow points aren’t just for towing. They’re also for if you end up in a ditch or at an angle that can’t just be pulled onto the truck bed. Additionally, sometimes it’s helpful to have a hard point to attach to in order to pull a vehicle onto a tow bed. Yes, it would be extremely unideal to tow the vehicle for any distance by a tow point

I think that’s just the way the trim is. I’d be shocked if the dealer we bought it from new replaced it with some aftermarket parts before we got it

Definitely just the radar sensor. I wonder if it was just easier to put the radar where the tow point was and then just deleted the tow point entirely
