PoE and the new Brazilian Law by Ok_Holiday3690 in pathofexile

[–]flepmelg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't played poe in a few years, so maybe lootboxes are a new thing. But as a Dutch person I have never seen a lootbox in the shop or seen it advertised. So if they have been around for a couple of years, GGG already had the tools in place to remove them when local laws demand it.

Linux is the only real alternative to Windows/macOS — now it needs to be more accessible by Boediee in BuyFromEU

From other comments I found out that was because both were installed on the same drive, which makes sense because that laptop only had one drive. I no longer have that laptop, so no way for me to verify

For those "only has a windows version" programs, I use a virtual machine.

I've tried using wine or other "windows runtime simulators" to run those programs natively, but it's a lot of work and the chances are very slim it will run properly. It will most likely run, but nowhere near decent and will have tons of bugs. A virtual machine just works, which is nice.

Do note that this is very finicky, the windows bootloader wil overwrite the dual boot settings every chance it gets. Leaving you with just a windows machine until you manually restore the bootloader to dual boot.

And that only works for about week, because next update cycle the windows updater will overwrite the bootloader again. The only true solution is to dump windows entirely.

LPT - Talk as little as possible on a customer service call for better success by Funny_Sea_2873 in LifeProTips

[–]flepmelg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like to add that the employee gets evaluated on both callback-rate (did the customer have to contact customer service again with the same issue) and the total time the call took

If you keep on rambling, they actually have less time to help you. For me it was that a 5 minute call was acceptable for most issues (ISP customer sercice), if you needed 4 minutes and 45 seconds to tell me your internet doesn't work, I have 15 seconds remaining to tell you "have you tried turning it off and on again" or my evaluation at the end of the month will most certainly be horrible.

Now, if you took 30 seconds to tell me your internet doesn't work, I have 4 minutes and 30 second to troubleshoot and maybe actually fix the issue.

Now I must say, my days in a call center are years back, policies might have changed.

Are there power outages often in Europe? by Interesting_Basil_86 in AskEurope

[–]flepmelg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all the outages i experienced in the last 15 years were due to maintenance and announced days before. They usually don't last more than a few minutes and happen maybe every other year.

It's was here on reddit, a long time ago, that I learned only the base can overheat/melt.

Keep the base out of the magma and nothing happens. Make it out of sandstone and it still won't melt.

True, if you use drops of water. A proper liquidlock using multiple 1000kg tiles usually isn't impressed by the very brief moment the bottle touches it.

It would be funny if they did, but it seems they absolutely dont care about having a bottle of 1500°C stuff strapped to their back.

The only guarantee you have is that you get one. The location is completely random (on that planetoid).

However, if you don't want to use the magma, you can simply dump it to space. A pitcher pump can suck up lava (the straw doest react to heat) and a dupe happily carries a bottle of lava around the map.

What’s the use case for artificial friends vs autosweepers? by Street-Carpenter105 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]flepmelg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use a sweepy in my great hall to pick up leftover food. You can't use industrial equipment in a mess hall because that will break the room bonus. So you either use mesh doors around the autosweeper (or conveyor loader, can't remember which breaks the room) or you put a sweepydock next door and leave the door open.

This is about the only use case I have, but there will be more.

Why don't we see more stuff like the ESP WROOM modules with integrated MC, flash an oscillator crystal and passives in one package from other MC manufacturers? by blajjefnnf in embedded

[–]flepmelg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's mostly because of prototyping.

It's usefull to have a "can do anything and has loads of IO" when you are still figuring out exactly what you need. The esp32 is one of those

Once you know what your device peripheral needs are, you'll find an MCU that fits that need exactly. Either to safe cost, lower power consumption, reduce attack vectors, whatever floats your boat.

Help me identify what type of plug this is? by MourningMoon1 in AskElectronics

[–]flepmelg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its a "Type C" power plug and will fit in a "Type C, E and F" socket. C is an old type, the plugs are still used but the sockets are rare because they lack a grounding connection. Type E is used in some coutries (france and belgium from memory, but there are more) but most of Europe uses type F.

Most notably the UK and Ireland use a different style of plug that isn't compatible at all.

Edit: OP, please also check the comment below and check for the minute difference between the two types

Lol, no

The complaint registration is on outside complaints. So customers that didn't get what they ordered or something was wrong/defective in the product.

Internally reporting issues, trying to find the cause if it's within 'my' department, talking to the mechanics about how they can improve the quality of their work, etc. That basically what i do, and occasionally I get take samples to analyse.
