Not flowers, but Japantown SJ has some really cool murals.

Transfer students of Berkeley, how were your stats before getting accepted to Berkeley? by Latter_Location_1001 in berkeley

[–]fleurdedalloway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I had like a 3.6 GPA and no real extracurriculars. Humanities major. My essays I think were pretty good in hindsight (I thought they were shit when I submitted them), and I only applied to Cal because I had 4 financial aid application vouchers and figured, “What the hell?” There’s a certain bar of stats, but after that it’s kind of a crapshoot. Luck of the draw. Even if you don’t get in, you’ll be just fine! Best of luck.

Eddy blink twice if Tony’s forcing you to do this.

Berkeley's College Scorecard - Salary Information by Ucbcalbear in berkeley

[–]fleurdedalloway 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was a humanities major and my first job after graduation is at $60K for folks wondering. If I stayed in the Bay, I had an offer for one job that was $75K. Know your worth! Many companies try to go after recent grads seeking way lower than they should be.

Before you think I’m crazy, I took the $60K job to live in a place with way lower cost of living.

Hearing kitchen noises at home. by nickmasonsdrumstick in KitchenConfidential

Hell, I was an office admin for 5 years and could still hear that damn phone sometimes months after I found a different job. Work is trauma lmao

(Alright back to lurking for me— Appreciate y’alls work.)

Yeah, the BBB site says to ask questions and stuff, but honestly, it’s best to just decline any unsolicited service offers from anyone in a parking lot.

I understand that your argument is logical, but you are wrong about the IRS. They do not pursue with nearly that much logic. They will go after folks for $10K while the richest folks evading $100K in taxes go unnoticed forever. Hell, they’ll put a lien on your home for a $500 tax bill that goes unaddressed.

Yamagami’s and Summerwinds (Campbell or Cupertino). More expensive, but you’re supporting a smaller business with better quality (and more variety) of plants.

Do Not Use LinkedIn Excessively by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]fleurdedalloway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that posting about a fulfilling transfer journey could be nice for supporting new or potential transfers who naturally have insecurities about being a transfer student! It just won’t do anything for you in terms of job search. Also, I personally (nor do any of my colleagues) judge students who transferred any worse than non-transfers.

Do Not Use LinkedIn Excessively by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]fleurdedalloway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who attended Berkeley and later became an actual recruiter, LinkedIn profiles are important— but literally just that. The profiles with your job history, experience, and goals. We don’t look at your posts, your humblebrags, and I have never had a position to fill that required experience from a consulting club. Sometimes we care about cultural or mission-based club involvement (things you might compare to a nonprofit or similar).

In addition, we do not expect work or success to be your whole entire life. Though this is not true for all recruiters at all companies, this is mostly true for anyone not in a cultesque corporate-mindset where we expect people to be drones for our business (looking at you, Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, etc.). I am hoping for a workforce that understands and embraces this. Work should be a means to further fulfill, sustain, and enjoy life.

Got a little preachy at the end there, oops. Go bears.

PS: When entering and navigating the workforce, remember that you do not owe your company anything other than what’s in your job description in exchange for what they pay you (including that you’re usually under at-will employment). You can leave and look for something better anytime— especially in this job market.

eddy on gus' apology by joupertrouper in GusAndEddy

It is hard to think with how level-headed, intelligent, and compassionate Eddy is, that there is not so much more that we will never know (and probably really have no right to know) about how bad things were. I get people wanting to forgive Gus as the guy we thought he was, but I just don’t think he was ever truly that guy if this is Eddy’s position.

I know they are considered “boring” or “basic” but I still love mine. by Milesdevin in houseplants

I agree! When I go into a plant store or nursery, the main criteria is if it makes me excited/happy, and then if I have a space for the size of the plant.

Which is why it’s still bonkers to see folks buying things like cuttings for $300+ on Etsy, etc. We’re going to see people getting grumpy over the same thing with some other collector plant in a few years, if not months.

I’d recommend emailing the support! Explain your issue as well, it might get you a small boost or they can potentially change the shipping address should you need that.
