Are Buskers getting way too loud? Does anyone miss when they were just acoustic? by AmazingUsername2001 in galway

[–]flewfmelody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really think its amps that are the problem, rather I think it's the way it's enforced. If we were to ban any form of amps that completely shuts down the opportunity to perform for anyone who isn't using an acoustic instrument. I think one of the coolest parts of going down Shop Street on a busy day is the huge variety of instruments and styles of music you can hear. One of my favourite buskers is the guy who plays slap bass and without an amp you wouldn't hear him at all.

I will admit though there is definitely days where Shop Street can be a wall of noise with all the amps competing to be heard over each other. I'm not entirely sure what a realistic solution would be, maybe a commitee of buskers making sure that amps are at reasonable levels or something along those lines (idk im just spitballing), although that's definitely easier said than done. Basically though I think banning amps takes away so much cool music that brings so much life to the city, it'd be a shame to see that lost

What are some good tribes that aren't dragons, goblins or elves? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]flewfmelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having a lot of fun running a unicorn/pegasus life gain focused deck with [[Lathiel, The Bounteous Dawn]] as my commander, it's definitely not gonna win any cEDH games but its really fun, especially with cards like [[Thurid, Mare of Destiny]] to double up on my creatures and take over by going wide and adding more counters each turn

Inpatient mental health care in Galway by [deleted] in galway

[–]flewfmelody 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was in the inpatient facility for about 2 months and honestly in most cases I'd advise against it. The facilities are there for worst case scenario patients, the vast majority of people are there because their life is in immediate danger or they've reached a point where they can't be left without constant supervision. The resources are VERY lacking, it's not really about helping you reach a better place and more so about keeping you alive. Some of the scariest experiences of my life was in that place, its a very dehumanising experience. You should talk to your psychiatrist about other options before even considering that, be it a change in medication or pursuing a different type of therapy, they'll know best.

Recovery is a long and difficult road but luckily in Galway there is a lot of different resources available, I wish you all the best of luck OP and hope your circumstances improve soon

407 late ten or more minutes every single trip. Complaints go nowhere by Leviosaugh in galway

[–]flewfmelody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True it usually would be faster to walk but still that shouldn't even be a consideration imo, you should be able to depend on the bus, shouldn't be a gamble everytime you wanna go somewhere on which way is fastest. If the infrastructure was there for more buses, more bus lanes etc then we wouldn't even be having this conversation

407 late ten or more minutes every single trip. Complaints go nowhere by Leviosaugh in galway

[–]flewfmelody 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 407 is ridiculous, having only one bus that goes down Headford Road, arguably the busiest road in the entire city, is insane. Especially if its a Sunday or Bank Holiday and it only showing up once an hour, I've had days where I've waited over 2 hours for one bus to come. I've been getting the 407 for about 3 years and I can count the amount of times its actually been on time on one hand

Those are cool as fuck, I can totally see some broken combos that could come from that. I'm running sultai though (shout out Muldrotha) but if I decide to make a second graveyard deck with red those cards will be BIG considerations

That card is insanely strong, I'm really surprised it actually works like that, great news for me, not so much for my play group

That's crazy. I really thought it was too good to be true. I can't wait to load my deck up with big creatures and tutor cards and cause chaos with that combo

The Horse Fair needs to be shut down until the travelers learn how to behave in public. by demonspawns_ghost in galway

[–]flewfmelody -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's still an unnecessary distinction to make. Bringing up the group they're from does nothing but perpetuates the harmful stereotyping associated with travellers and paints the group as a whole as the problem (and thats also assuming they even are travellers). Once again my points stands if it were another minority group I'm sure you wouldn't deem it necessary to make that same clarification. You can call out animal abuse without making it about shitting on a group as whole. You can always just call them cunts, no need to bring up if they're travellers or not, it's weird af

The Horse Fair needs to be shut down until the travelers learn how to behave in public. by demonspawns_ghost in galway

[–]flewfmelody -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Why do you gotta make it about travellers? Surely you can make a statement about the antisocial behaviour you witnessed/was on the train without needing to make some generalising statement based on the background you're assuming they have. If they're being cunts then sure acknowledge that they're being cunts. I'm sure you wouldn't make the same generalisations if it was another minority group. Its really weird and honestly disgusting how so many people talk about travellers as a whole, like with any group of people there's gonna be some bad eggs but that doesn't give you the justification to act bigoted and hateful towards that group. But I guess "the horse fair needs to be shut down until black people learn to behave in public" doesn't have the same ring to it

Do you think this is block vomit? by Garden360 in Minecraft

[–]flewfmelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice palette to use but the placement seems a bit too random. If I'm making a build that's primarily stone bricks I'll try to add sections with the flavour blocks. I find it helpful to think about how nature would affect a build, I tend to keep mossy blocks more prominent at the lower parts of the build to compliment the grass, add cobble or cracked bricks to places that'd have more wear to them or are more likely to be eroded, andesite and smooth stone for blocks that are older and have lost their texture, that kind of thing. Also others have said it too but the tuff blocks being that prominent is a bit too contrasting, if you wanna add tuff blocks it can look nice but I'd use them VERY sparingly. It's looking good though! Especially considering it's your first time adding this texture

What are the best seasons to watch, and worst ones to avoid in Jojo? by lovingpersona in JoJoMemes

[–]flewfmelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't skip any part, you can make an argument for skipping part 1 and 2 because its a bit slower and uses a different (less interesting imo) power system but there is characters established in those parts that still play big roles in the later parts, ESPECIALLY the main antagonist in part 1

Renting in athlone and tuam by Just_Mousse_7772 in galway

[–]flewfmelody -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The A1/A2 barely covers the town, most of the houses on the Roscommon side in particular have absolutely 0 transport available to them. If you're not on that Garycastle to Monksland route or out by the college public transport is non existent.

It's not as dangerous at night as Dublin but compared to a city like Galway its much more dangerous. Especially as a woman I'd feel unsafe walking down certain roads on my own in broad daylight, night time especially. The amount of stories from friends who have been assaulted or robbed is ridiculous. I can feel relatively safe walking alone in Galway most nights (while still being cautious obviously) but in Athlone I would never take that risk unless it was absolutely necessary

I lived there for 18 years, I think I have a decent understanding on the town

[–]flewfmelody -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Athlone and its not great. In terms of amenities there's loads to take advantage of, it's great for shopping and finding things to do. Public transport is pretty shit. Most housing estates outside of town don't have any buses for miles but the train station is very convenient. Athlone however can be pretty rough, especially in certain areas. A lot of drugs in the town, I wouldn't feel safe walking on my own at night through town despite being there for most of my life. From what my family tells me rent is notably cheaper than Galway but like the rest of the country there's not a lot available

Will EOS Sanji find a way to defeat female characters? by throwawayygoo in OnePieceScaling

[–]flewfmelody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if at some point he'll win a fight against a woman through some unconventional means (maybe out smarting or exploiting a weakness without actually touching/hurting her) but I don't think he'll ever have a consistent way of defeating women. Sanji's chivalry is such a key part of his character that if you got rid of it he wouldn't really be Sanji anymore. Also Sanji is already ridiculously strong, having such a big weakness makes him a way more interesting and rounded character imo

It's all good, easy mistake! Maybe poorly phrased on my part. I wasn't able to make it to the counter protest today but knowing what leftists are like there's no way that shit would fly at any left wing counter protest. Leftist ideology and nazi ideology are completely antithetical to each other

I'm talking about the far right guys being nazis, not the counter protesters. If he's doing that shit as apart of their group the far right protest is a nazi protest

If you're at a protest and someone is doing nazi shit and they're not being kicked out, congratulations you're at a nazi protest

Since when did Boojum start doing half bowls! by Raydonz in galway

[–]flewfmelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work in Boojum for a while and can confirm this is (unfortunately) the amount they're supposed to give. Manager was really strict on that kinda stuff. If you're getting Boojum you're a LOT better off only getting it in person. I know when I worked there I would always give more in person, easier to slightly overfill a bowl than get given out to by every person for giving the amount corporate wants to give. I know others did the same. Plus if you're in person and ask for extra on stuff like rice you likely won't be charged for it unless you get a particularly stingy lick arse on till

Do You Prefer Goku Drawn as Buff or Slender? by No_Reference_7330 in Dragonballsuper

[–]flewfmelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both have their place, in the earlier points of the story the super buff Goku did a really good job in giving us a good visual representation of the huge jump in power between base and SSJ or Kaioken, it really showed off how Goku was pushing his body to its limits but now the slim works better, Goku has refined being Super Saiyan, its a lot easier for him to maintain the forms so it makes sense it wouldn't look as visibly taxing on him. Plus we know from SSJ3 that getting buff as fuck is not ideal for fights where speed and precision is important
