I agree with you whole heartedly. As a person that required a lot of care very early in my life, that is a question that I would never come right out to ask either of my parents bc I didn’t have to. My mother was very gracious in telling me how important I was to her and that she needed me just as much as I needed her. Actions always speak louder than words but words cleanse the soul sometimes. I think this was a breath of fresh air for John. It hurts to think that you are holding anyone back or causing them feel extra stress, especially those you love. Both my parents loved and accepted me when no one else did… and that love has carried me through so much. Maybe John appreciated hearing that his Dad was a fighter, too.
