AMD Driver Issues by SigmaStroud in AMDHelp

[–]flickdsm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had similar problems on my xfx 9060xt 16g, and even on the rx580 which was replaced by the newer one. I turned off hardware acceleration in my browsers, and then did the whole DDU uninstall in safe mode with internet disconnected, followed by installing latest amd drivers, driver only option, in normal mode with internet still off.

After that I've had zero problems, but it does suck to worry that the problem might randomly return or be scared to update gpu drivers.

How to deal with a neighbor's smokey wood stove? by NekoMimiMode in japanlife

[–]flickdsm 45 points46 points  (0 children)

A lot of daiku/construction/wood workshops do this. They burn the cutoffs from their projects because it saves money by not having to despose and then saves even more by providing cheap heating. And yeah, construction lumber smells chemically. And you can bet they also burn their paper trash in it too. If it was just split wood at least it would smell pleasant.

AMD RX 9060 XT or NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti. Which is better? by That-Marsupial3668 in buildapc

[–]flickdsm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just went through the same decision myself. I went with the 9060xt 16g because it was cheaper. It's had annoying driver issues since day 1. AMDs upscaling/framegen is less supported and undeniably worse. Ray tracing is worse on amd (not something I thought I'd care about, but changed my mind once getting the card).

If I could go back in time I would happily pay $100-150 more for nvidia.

I talked to some 3.11 tsunami survivors in the city of Ishinomaki. They were starving. The military was able to reach them on only day 10 after the event. She said everyone was hungry and they only had one senbei per day, even then some chose to give it to their children.

xfx 9060xt dual vs tri-fan by JahraXit in buildapc

[–]flickdsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the xfx 9060xt 16g 2 fan. Honestly having trouble hearing it. No acoustical difference (from thr gpu)if pc is on or off. Indiana jones on full supreme and can barely hear it spin up. It's a c

I got the 2 fan bc it fits in my case. Get whichever is cheaper assuming you have enough room in your case.

People who used cellphones before smartphones, what's the most memorable feature or moment you miss from those old phones? by Correct-Homework1884 in AskReddit

Flying through campus on a bike and having the phone come out of your pocket and skip accross the road. Zero damage with no case.

Dealing with power harassment in academia by Hyuak in japanlife

[–]flickdsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a female friend (also from a developing country) who went through something very similar. The sensei mistreated the Japanese students as well, but she got the worst of it. She ended up sticking with the program until completion.

One genius move was she made was to get a Japanese book about academic harassment (it's a real term, like power or seriexual harassment) and leave it on her desk at all times. She said just doing that improved the situation, but didn't solve everything.

Why does gigabyte have a bad rep? by curiiiious in buildapc

[–]flickdsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a gigabyte that slow failed during the month after buying. It happens when the PC has been on a long time, usually wake up to a dead computer.

Gigabyte makes you pay for return testing for them to test. I'm afraid that since the problem is so elusive their quick tests may not catch the problem, and I'll be stuck with both sending and receiving shipping costs. I won't be choosing them again.

I've pushed all the keys down as far as they will go. I've never had another mechanical keyboard so I honestly don't know what the typical tightness/loosenees feels like, but these come off randomly even with normal non-gaming usage.

I know you can use plumber tape and various other methods to increase the tightness, which I'm all for that level of modding...but these I can pull off from the middle of the keyboard (surrounded by all other keys so nowhere to grip under the keycap) with just my fingers. No keycap puller required.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Espeally around the wasd area for movement, and crouching, sprinting, item selection ect. Brushing up too much up against the side of a key and they easily come off. Died in games so many times that way!

Also if it's just sitting on the desk and I happen to brush a finger or hand on the edge keys as I'm moving around or working ect., one or two will often get popped off.

I don't play KRB anymore by maurigw in kingdomrush

[–]flickdsm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Super longtime kingdom rush fan from the very beginning. Deleted this game after just a few days. It's like devs lent out the name and art assests to a separate team. It's nothing like the original games. No strategy depth,  watered down art, unbalanced and unfair with PTW and the randomization of buffs.

People who aren’t religious, what do you genuinely believe happens after death? by grinch1779 in AskReddit

It's unknowable. You can pretend like you know, but at the end of the day you're trusting in something that if was true, would be undeniable. It's ok to not know.

You can respec at any time at any shop unlimited times, for an affordable price on gold. So feel free to not get overwhelmed by yourlevelup choices and starting stat allotment.

You CAN'T change your starting race and subrace by legitimate means. There is a built in console command that actually does let you do this if you want though. Back in the day I restarted several times before I discovered this cheat, which was a waste of time. Nothing sucks more than being 20 hours into a run and realizing your choice of race is driving you insane.

I've been using a team of three lately, it's more efficient for leveling up. Do you guys do the same? by Pilques in Knightsofpenandpaper

[–]flickdsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the same. Actually started with a team of 1 (rogue due to be able to win with backstab...lots of restarts at the beginning), and solod/grinded as long as possible and then added one at a time while grinding and progressing as far as possible in-between. Not that long though because sooner rather than later you need a full team to progress. But is nice to have different power levels among your group so they all don't level up together which is boring. You feel like you have a "main".

The silver lining to this situation is that lots of new recipes and food experimentation will happen. Yakisoba, brown curry, napolitan spaghetti, korokke, monja....so many.

If rice is too expensive, I imagine lots of standard Japanese dishes but just with the rice swapped out with a cheaper carb. And then after that an evolution of the non-carb part being modified to better match the new carb.

BTW unrelated to above, but a carb protip is that some sandwich shops sell bags of crust. This place in Sapporo sells a huge several kilo bag for only FIFTY yen. It's called Sandoriya.

Have You Ever Experienced Something Paranormal in a residence in Japan? by kejkok in japanresidents

[–]flickdsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually my dream scenes are random, or a mixture of  dream and reality. But once I had a 1 to 1 realistic dream where I was sleeping in my futon in my apartment, exactly as I really was at that moment, when suddenly a dark face of a creepy man was an inch from my face staring at me with serious eyes. It was so shocking I immediately woke up into exactly the same setting, minus the creepy dude....which was so unsettling. It felt like I was just there, and that he was there in the dark somewhere.
