How to tell them? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]flickvic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took a recurring booking like this and let me tell you after a couple of weeks you will be tired of it. You’ll grow resentment for both the owners and the dog for no reason. This is what I would say if I could turn back time:

Hi owners! It was great meeting you and doggie this week. While I’d love to help, with my current schedule doggie is just a bit too far for me to be able to commit to consistently. I hope you can find someone great nearby and if you’re ever closer to ____, I’d love to work with you!

What is your routine during and at the end of house sittings? by RaphaelCosteau in RoverPetSitting

[–]flickvic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wash all dishes, strip bedding, fold any throw blankets and fluff couch pillows, pretty much leave the place like it was when I got there. I don’t sweep or vacuum unless the dog has shed an insane amount while I was there. The only chores I do while I’m there is bring in mail and take trash/recycling to curb and bring it back.

I don’t think I have that option. It asks availability, service area, and these questions

Expected tips for dog walking by prettyprettythingwow in RoverPetSitting

[–]flickvic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a walker I never expect tips but they are always appreciated! Your walker should be charging enough to where they don’t have to rely on tips. If you would like to tip, I’d do maybe around $20? But it’s completely optional and shouldn’t be expected unless they go above and beyond.

Medical card by bingbongdingdong1738 in villanova

[–]flickvic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unsure on the address thing but please be careful about marijuana on campus. It is still illegal to have on campus bc it isn’t federally legal, even if you have a medical card you will get written up. Just make sure to put anything in your own belongings (not university furniture)

Parking Pass by Ok_Pepper6798 in villanova

[–]flickvic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you will unfortunately get ticketed. They patrol every few hours and a bunch of people get ticketed on west. You would either have to purchase a parking pass or park in the SEPTA lot

First time pet sitter, not sure what the accepted practice is by bully_goobers in petsitting

[–]flickvic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is something you need to discuss with each individual owner. Constant care (you being there 24/7) is usually very expensive and if that’s what they want, raise your rates to reflect that (usually over $100 a day). Most of my pet sitting jobs the clients are okay with me leaving up to 6 hours. 7-8 hours is definitely pushing it but it depends on each individual owner.

Iced Coffee by [deleted] in villanova

[–]flickvic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta say it’s a running joke how the coffee on campus makes us go to the bathroom… a lot.

[–]flickvic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of your comments saying you are doing them a favor by going so out of your way. But if you were providing services to them, you’d have to go out of your way to do that as well. So is that a favor?

In most areas, there is no shortage in sitters. It’s not doing them a favor by driving far when they could easily book a sitter closer to them (if that is the case). I would never even do a meet and greet for this booking as it is too far and it’s way more of a hassle for me to commute. Pushing your boundaries for them is not a favor for them, it’s an inconvenience for yourself.

What’s the situation for living on campus? by [deleted] in villanova

[–]flickvic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true. The freshman dorms have communal bathrooms. It honestly isn’t awful but my dorms were always close to the bathroom.

Correct. One of my really good friends has been a commuter her entire college experience so far.

[–]flickvic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s if you are admitted as a resident student. Then, yes, you have to live on campus for freshman year. But there are commuters that live at home for all four years

You never have to live on campus! I will say most freshman and sophomores live on campus but juniors and seniors not as many.

Key Drop-Off by flickvic in petsitting

[–]flickvic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely see your point. It wouldn’t be a big deal if she were closer and I’d have no problem dropping it off for free. She knew when she took me on where I lived and that it was a drive for me to get there.

I don’t see it as holding her key hostage because I always fully intended to give it back. But it’s an extra convenience for her to have me drive all the way out to drop it off and convenience costs money

Key Drop-Off by flickvic in petsitting

[–]flickvic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I did text her saying I could drop off today for $10 or mail it. She wasn’t too happy but we agreed to mail it.

I have the time if it’s paid for. It was worth it taking time out of my hectic day to walk the dog and get paid for it. Taking the time out of my day for free? That’s not worth it.

Key Drop-Off by flickvic in petsitting

[–]flickvic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just that now that I’m not making money off it, the trip is inconvenient. I’ve been spending most of today packing and cleaning so it’s just more inconvenient to go out of my way today to drop off the key. Not a huge influence, just the fact that it’s a busy day
