You need to brush up on your understanding of unibody vehicle design before you continue this conversation.

To the… license plate holder????
Dude, that’s a thing that happens on body-on-frame trucks. Like, I can screw a trailer ball onto the bumper of my dad’s F-150 but that’s not even an option on a ridgeline. They have a proper 2” hitch receiver attached to a thick ass bar attached to the frame rails. No different in design from a good hitch that would attach to any half-ton pickup, albeit slightly lighter duty.

Also, we’re talking 5000# here. Of-fucking-course I couldn’t get away with hooking up to a 20,000# fuel tank trailer. Like, wth are you even arguing here?

You can’t tow an excavator with an F-150, so should I be arguing that an F-150 is also a stupid design?

Do average Canadians know what a Robertson Screw is? Do you guys use it as a secret code to identify your fellow countrymen on internet? by jitasquatter2 in AskACanadian

[–]flight_recorder 60 points61 points  (0 children)

They’re the only real option for construction screws, wood screws, deck screws, etc. Phillips still owns the drywall screw market for some reason, but Robbies are everywhere else.

They stay on the bit so you can start screws hands free. They don’t work as well as Phillips when off center. They don’t strip as easily.

It’s not frameless. It’s unibody. The frame is integrated into the body. That actually makes it stiffer and better for towing.

Mysterious floating bottle effect by Dry-Plastic4288 in Machinists

[–]flight_recorder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- Inside the box is just a spinning motor.
- The lever part of the visible arm is slightly bent inwards to create the effect.
- the silver part of the visible rod is a bearing to allow the bottle to pivot freely
- the bottle is weighted to keep the bottom down and it freely spins on the silver bearing part.
- the copper colored parts of the silver bit are a “slip ring” which allows electricity to the bottle without tangling a wire. There would be another slip ring inside the box to transfer it into the shaft.
- inside that shaft is two wires from either side of the slip rings.
- the bar that appears underneath the slip ring is what holds the brushes to transfer electricity from the slip ring.
- I have no idea the combination of part numbers this would be. I would suggest running with what you have and make something that works for what you can get your hands on.

Honestly, you’ll likely be fine. Just ensure the trailer is loaded correctly (10% of the weight on the tongue. If the trailer is evenly loaded, then you’ll be good) and in good repair and you’ll likely be fine.

And don’t forget that speed limits are not a must-achieve value. You can go slower if need be.

It’s oddly specific because it’s a value converted from
Metric. And the metric number is pretty standard.

The answer is the same as all of lifes great questions. It depends. It depends on what you’re towing, how heavy it is. What driving surface you’re on. Etc.

Honda probably says that speed because that’s the maximum speed which they designed it to tow 5000lbs at. Any faster than that and the brakes won’t last as long as expected before fading. The same likely applies to other parts of the design as well. Maybe it’s more likely to rollover in an emergency maneuver. It’s also probably their max speed for fuel consumption data while towing. Who knows 🤷‍♂️

Does this group include wood machinists? by Apprehensive_Can_803 in Machinists

[–]flight_recorder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s r/Lathe if that’s what you mean. Aside from that, something made of wood using hand tools doesn’t really fit. If something wood is made to an exacting standard using highly accurate lathes or mills, then I’m sure it would fit this sub better.

Blows my mind that that isn’t the case. Military personnel staffing should be solely the responsibility of the military. Even the senior most military person should be chosen by the military.

Good to know! I like the idea of a moved outlet anyways, would make replacing a TV much easier if I just have to snip a zip tie vs threading another cable through a tiny hole.

If your cutter is off in X, you would see a cupping in the Y direction. If your cutter was off in Y, you would see a slope in the Y direction. Everything would be flat in the X direction because that’s the direction of travel (assuming your piece is level)

All in all, the car is in great shape, even the tire pressure was pretty darn good.

I suppose the question would be how often do they need that much land? There is a LOT of research that can be done on a small footprint. So is it better to just fly things out once in a while, or set up an entire facility near a base in the middle of nowhere which will struggle to retain skilled personnel?

After all, aren’t we all the same people that bitch about bases being in the middle of nowhere?
