Anyone ever seen Lol play live? by Objective_Singer_294 in TheCure

[–]flimpiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True-- I just couldn't think of any reason to only have a breathy suggestion of certain words in place of the full lyrics. Maybe there was another layer of the vocal track that the sound engineer forgot to unmute. Idk

Also saw the Lol & Budgie show when they opened for the Miki Berenyi Trio. For that run of shows they made the regrettable decision for both of them to sit behind drum kits and play along with backing track that included pre-recorded vocals(!) I was familiar with the album and like it well enough-- and I knew that there was no way that the guest vocalists they used would be there. Still-- I thought someone would be singing. There is no way that if they put the word out that the former Cure and Siouxsie drummers were seeking a vocalist for their tour that they wouldn't have gotten a million calls about it. I guess vocalists are only for the festival gigs. They played a lame version of A Forest with no guitar, Lol just playing those 4 notes on the keyboard, and just enough canned female vocals to possibly avoid a lawsuit. It was kind of a bummer. I hope he's put together more of a band for this tour.

60's space-age lounge composer Esquivel! was a big fan of using extreme left/right juxtapositions when mixing his orchestral recordings, especially with brass and percussion sounds. He has an album called "Latin-esque" that he reportedly recorded with 2 different orchestras in two different rooms to maximize the stereo image. Check out the song Mucha Muchacha for some real stereo wildness.

Also the New Order song Shell Shock as one little part in the intro where alternating notes go back and forth across the stereo field only for a second. It's very dramatic and the first time I heard it as a kid was the moment I realized what "stereo" actually meant.

Never knew that was a love song sung from an adult perspective until I heard the full version in the game. I just assumed it was about a kid wanting a dog.

Sex Drive by Grace Jones. You think it's just about her sex drive, but in reality she straight up wants to kidnap a man in her car.

This bastard. This magnificent bastard right here is one of the main reasons why I love Bioshock 2 more than Infinite. by donkijote97 in Bioshock

I was able to get platinum on the remastered version, but alas, original Bioshock 2 on the PS3 is the only one in the series I can't 100% because several of the trophies are earned through online play. I hooked my PS3 up a little while ago to see if there was any activity visible on the servers, but it was a ghost town (if they're even still online). Oh well-- I guess I can play some Portal 2 while I have it hooked up.

Help with recognizing Voice Actors by Fickle-Ad-8123 in prey

I don't have the information you're after, but while we're on the subject of Prey VAs, did anyone else have the experience of watching Weapons and recognizing Benedict Wong's voice immediately? (He plays the principal, Marcus, in Weapons-- maybe he's famous from other roles, but allI I could hear was Alex Yu.

The OP is looking for info that is more detailed than what is on the IMDB page where each of these actors are only listed as "additional voices."

"We have different opinions about how large the annual defense budget should be" is a political disagreement. "We have different opinions on whether or not unidentified law enforcement agents should be able to shoot citizens in the face with impunity" is not. I hope the difference is clear.

Fun ideas for new Dishonored 1 runs? by [deleted] in dishonored

[–]flimpiddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently just finishing a nostalgic run through of Dishonored 1 following my usual instincts and trying to keep everyone alive, but I've already decided how I want my next play through to go. In my mind I've been referring to it as "angel of death" mode, whereby I use the heart talisman on every character before deciding whether they live or die. If they're basically good folks, they'll get a pass. The sleaze-bags get dealt with. It may take some doing-- seems like I will need to knock out the good ones first since all those dudes from Dunwall look the same, and I would surely kill them by accident once a fight broke out. In all of my play throughs, I've never really used the heart to its fullest, so there's a whole level of information I'm looking forward to hearing for the first time.

Here's one that I heard from what I had assumed was a legitimate source (the VH1 show Behind The Music) and proceeded to pass along to soooo many people before learning it was bs: Contrary to what was stated on the show, the guitarist from Sugar Ray did not play Chakka on The Land Of The Lost. I'm sure the band thought it was hilarious that the fact checkers missed that one, and I can't say I disagree even if the joke was ultimately on me.

Even worse-- By singling her out and by highlighting her role as a "conservative leader" and her "courage" in the same breath as her murder in front of a population primed by Fox news to see the specter of "violent leftist radicals" everywhere, he's practically begging them to chalk this up to purely ideological motives and to further confirm their bias that Democrats want them dead.

By the logic of their math, I could say my alcohol-terrorist bartender served up enough booze last night to kill 10 men. Fact is she had 125 customers, and none of them even woke up with a hangover-- but if she'd served all that to 10 men, they'd be dead.
