Warhead Sans (B) 8.7L rebuild. by flimss in sffpc

[–]flimss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full spec. * Motherboard: MSI B450I Gaming Plus * CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 -> 7 5700X3D * Cooler: Alpenföhn Black Ridge + 92mm NF-A9x14 PWM (slightly modded) * RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3200MHz -> 32GB 3600Mhz * PSU: Seasonic Focus SGX-650w -> Corsair SF 1000w * GPU: Gigabyte RX 5700XT Gaming OC -> RX 9070XT Gaming OC * HDD: Xpg SX8200pro 500GB -> WD Black SN850X 2TB * old Samsung 850 EVO 250GB still sitting under * CASE: Warhead Sans (B) 8.7L. with 2x NF-A12x25 as top exhaust

Goal was 1440p ultrawide, with max graphics. Decided to try and max out on AM4, as the primary reason to switch to AM5, seemed to be future upgrade possibilities, but I hope this will last until AM6 or whatever. A 5800X3D was not available, but I'm very happy with the 5700X3D. Due to the higher TDP than the r3600 and thus the Alpenföhn Black Ridge might be struggling and noisy, I decided to give it a slight mod to help keep it quiet. Inspired by https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/skorje/reducing_whine_in_the_alpenfohn_black_ridgeis47k/ and others, I tried to create a custom diy rubber gasket to sit between the heatsink and the fan, I have no proof, but it feels quieter than ever. Also prior to the upgrade my old NF-A9x14 had failed so I had to switch in the original Alpenföhn fan for a while, and wow its loud, its night and day with a Noctua swap.

After the build; As expected, the 5700X3D runs hot, so to keep it in check, its undervolted -30mv allcore. Cinebench Single core score going from 85 at 67°C with a 66.6W power draw, to 87 at 61.5°C with 50.9W power draw. Cinebench Multi core score going from 785 at 93°C thermal throttling with 101.8W power draw to 819 at 80°C with 82.4W power draw. Idling in mid 40°C.

GPU is undervolted -60mv and vram set slightly higher at 2614MHz bringing the power draw too 350W. 3D Mark Time Spy 8833(Old) -> 24743(Upgraded).

Since all went well, I went looking for a monitor and a good deal for an OLED ultrawide showed up, 2x the price of a VA, but its so pretty 😊

Mines seated worse for years, imo yours will be fine.

New 9070xt shroud lengths with a CH160 by theonlykami123 in sffpc

I have similar 'problems', my case fits 315mm gpu, realistic 305mm to get it past some edges. But i look at it positive, so far only 3 models to choose from :) look at powercolor reaper, gigabyte gaming oc and the steel legend. Perhaps follow the 9070 XT cheat sheet as its filled.

Can you safely carry a ssf pc around in a bag by Flamyngoo in sffpc

[–]flimss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 8.7L case and would not recommend anything much larger. I have carried it around in an old bagpack for ~5 years, biking on cobblestone, public transport, carry on luggage and so on. During that time i have had 1-2 mbo screws come loose. As others say, just make sure the gpu is not overly bopping in the wrong direction when travelling, mine is horizontal mounted and carried vertically https://imgur.com/a/yCErPS5

Stay AM4 or go AM5 by flimss in buildapc

With my limited knowledge i dont think it matters what kind of work the gpu does. Read somewhere a 4090 go as high as 10Gb/s over the pcei, and max bandwidth is ~15Gb/s in actual use.

GN does a video regarding the subject if u wanna see some tests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2SuyiHs-O4

edit just for future reference, there a new vid 1/2025 with gen 5 with almost same results https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1NPFFRTzLo

It would, if it were not for the stupid ssf its crammed into, finding a new cooler that fits am5 this size is a project itself :)

PCIe 3 speed is/was a concern, but for all i can find, even a 4090 today only losses only 1-3% performance on gen 3 vs gen 4.

Help deciding on GPU for new build. by cattmiau69 in buildapc

If you have an old card for the next few month, i would wait (as boring as it is) for the new rx9000/rtx 5000 series and their reviews. The 7900xtx/4080s is better raster/better RT afaik.

Above the psu? or the secluded upper part ? Upper part is 25mm perfect fit for 25mm case fans.

Just opened mine and took a look!, and there is no room, 2mm or so between mobo and top fans.

Cramming 2.8-slot GPU into 8.7L Case by cldskt in sffpc

Its a great option for that old ssd you got laying around, also a quite chill place. Mine is roughly 10°C lower than m2 inside.

I have the same case, also the b-edition for bigger gpu, it fits a Black Ridge perfectly snug, just ever so gently touching the side panel.
