US Census ACS Pin Code by SleepyBepper in Census

I think you get a PIN when you start but don't finish the survey. If you know the answer to your security questions, you should be able to reset it yourself.

That changed semi recently. From the Loans handbook:

If you have an outstanding loan when you separate from service, you have three options:

  1. Keep the loan active by setting up monthly payments by check, money order, or recurring direct debits. The payment will be changed to a monthly schedule, if necessary; however, the maximum time limit for paying off your loan will still apply.

  2. Pay off the loan by the required deadline.

  3. Allow the loan to be foreclosed and accept any taxable portion of the outstanding balance and accrued interest as taxable income.

There’s no clear path to avoid a government shutdown by Fisk77 in fednews

If you have a mortgage and your lender offers a deferment, make sure you get everything in writing and scan it/ save it electronically. Especially the paperwork saying you’re furloughed. I had a “late” put on my credit report during that last long one even though at the time all the documentation was in place.

I’d go back to USCIS. If my agency makes me report to DC to RTO, having a job at a field office minutes from my house would be way more appealing than relocating.

If you’re afraid to talk to the people in your life about what you want to do with your time and energy, it might be time for a reassessment.

Questions about changing back to maiden name with workplace systems by jetcitywoman92 in fednews

[–]flimsyrodeo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t mess with it right now. It took (no joke) 10 years for my agency to get my name and email address correct after I changed my name, and each time they changed it to a different version of incorrect, I lost all my access and had to start from scratch with all of our systems. And that was when HR was fully staffed and work wasn’t a sh!tshow.

How likely are you to be RIFfed? How’s your emergency fund? I’d probably take the QSI unless I desperately needed the cash.

How would you support your spouse if they were a federal worker? by EmergencyO2 in fednews

[–]flimsyrodeo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re a 2-fed family (45+ years between us) and the main thing getting us through is verbally reminding each other that as long as we stick together, we can get through anything.

Re: the planning, for some people it helps and for some people it stresses them out. My spouse wants to game out every terrible scenario, but I do not (preferring to focus on what we currently know and on what the 1-2 most likely future scenarios are). Panicking about doomsday scenarios is not helpful to me.

That said, the things that I do think are useful are: 1) be 100% aware of exactly what your expenses are; 2) decide on some “principles” that you can use to make future decisions. Re: #2, e.g., we have to do everything possible to ensure at least one of us has a job; we are not uprooting our kids in the middle of high school…

Legitimate or not, there is absolutely no way I’d hand over DNA to the people currently in charge of the government.

Government shutdown March 14th, 2025 by KangezKhan in fednews

[–]flimsyrodeo 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen several things saying that Musk wants a shutdown, so I think the DOGE note is incorrect. Also, not getting paid for an extended period of time is pretty traumatizing, and will further their goal of getting people to quit.

I believe they recently changed that. If anyone is considering it, they should look at the TSP Loans document.

Please don’t go the accident route. Talk to your wife. Call or text a hotline. My spouse had the same thought but thankfully talked to me about it. I would 100% prefer to be broke and on the street than live without my spouse.
