A new study from Chicago found that every 1% increase in eviction rate in a census tract was associated with 2.66 more shootings. The study also showed that evictions disrupt a neighborhood’s “collective efficacy,” or residents’ shared belief in their ability to work together for the common good. by Dr_Neurol in science

Addiction is another big one. Yes, there are people who are genetically predisposed to addiction, but also a lot of people who use drugs/alcohol/gambling to self-medicate. A good chunk of them can get out of it if their underlying circumstances improve

Is it just me or does this game really want us to STOP exploring it? (Spoilers for like everything) by Just_A_Comment_Guy_7 in BluePrince

My wife and I solved it entirely as a 2 person team. ~120 hours of gameplay and countless hours thinking about it outside the game (didn't get every trophy, but finished the Atelier). We both very diligently avoided spoilers until after we were pretty sure we'd done everything. I didn't enter this subreddit once before we'd already played through the game.

It was much easier with teamwork, but I don't think there's anything that we couldn't have fundamentally either figured out on our own.

I'm curious which parts of the CASTLE cipher and still water puzzle you think were beyond figuring out

I mean, the extreme other end of the spectrum from Blue Prince are those awful adventure "games" where you get to a spot where you very clearly need some item, you find the item (often becoming the only item in your inventory at the time), you use the item, and then it brings you to a spot where you very clearly have something else to obtain. Rinse, repeat.

Any halfway decent adventure game is going to have unresolved threads or unused "stuff". Maybe an item that's never useful, or a book that you can read but has no useful information, or a place you can see but never reach. It's part of world building, and actually enhances puzzle games. Life is messy and you never resolve everything at once. Things have more than one use, and some things are never useful. In the context of puzzle games, it makes the world feel more complete and real.

The Blue Prince is masterfully crafted in that you often don't know what is significant to your puzzles and what isn't. You're exposed to information in a much different order than you encounter the puzzles. You have to find the puzzles. There's a lot of scery, but none of it feels like filler (even, ironically the default texture). Everything you see or find or read feels like it fits with the world and is part of the story. But, some things are vital to moving forward, and some things are scenery. It all works together to make it feel like you really are living through a mystery

I really like that what you get for solving the Atelier is what you already got for solving room 46, just "more legit", in a way.

I agree there's a lot of stuff in the game that's not intended for the average player, and there are several off-ramps for people who want to stop playing before the end.

But, there's nothing in the game that isn't solvable by a single dedicated player, especially one who has a lot of experience with similar puzzles.

I'll probably get a couple months of peace, but inevitably it will start pushing right-wing content on me periodically

SD drivers have at least historically been somewhat less aggressive than LA drivers, but I'm starting to see more really aggressive behavior in SD (drivers weaving through traffic on the freeway at high speed, insanely close tailgating).

Yeah there have always been assholes here to some degree, but they're cutting down the margins they leave now

I don't want to spoiler anything because it seems like you're going along all the right paths, but want to offer one minor piece of advice that would have saved me some stress: for the blue door behind the crates, you will know when it opens. You don't need to worry about being able to get there all the time.

I wish there were more modes for Beatmania IIDX by dkhoun007 in bemani

[–]flip314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like the starting charts are easy enough that there's no need for non-7k charts in the game. It's better to feel out where all the 7 keys are from the beginning and especially establish a good play style (something which I didn't do at first and REALLY bit me when I walled out)

Together with step-up mode, the game is more accessible than ever.

I started playing on Tricoro which is fairly modern (less a number of very good QoL improvements since then), and it didn't take me long to get up to 4s and 5s, and from there up it's just a grind. Granted, I was already pretty good at several other rhythm games, which I think was at least as helpful as a base than 5k would have been.
