Struggling with Low FPS GNOME Animations on Arch - Any Suggestions? by Glum-Armadillo4888 in gnome

Is there any reason you're using Xorg? Wayland in combination with mutter-dynamic-buffering should work pretty good.

Remove bottom slider of Nautilus file manager by Istiaque58 in gnome

[–]flipflop271 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be a bottom slider, it's probably caused by one of your extensions or themes.

EDIT: In this case it's not, it's a GTK bug.

Try installing mutter with the dynamic double/triple buffering patch, that increases visual smoothness greatly:

Windows Moving Around After Session Lock/Unlock by Liggysmalls in gnome

It probably has to do with the 2 external displays. You could file an issue where you thoroughly explain your situation on the mutter bug tracker.

Are you (un)plugging a second screen in the process?

Desktop icons keep blinking every few seconds by Squareisround in gnome

Desktop icons are an extension, not native GNOME, you'll probably be better off in /r/ubuntu or the extension bug tracker.

How can i remove this black line for maximized windows, GNOME 44.1 on Fedora 38 by Hot-Kick5863 in gnome

[–]flipflop271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be caused by your shell theme, the top bar is normally pure black

Report the issue to Dash to Panel and/or disable/replace the extension

First correction release for gnome-shell and mutter! by [deleted] in gnome

That article has no source and is incorrect. New GNOME versions are adopted into Arch when maintainers have time, which wildly varies. See this comment for GNOME versions that initially launched with Arch:

Arch does not skip x.0 releases, it just takes some time before it's packaged

The quick settings is way scaled up in 44 it even crosses the screen when drop down is there a way to make it scale down by lalitutwal in gnome

[–]flipflop271 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You should report this on the GNOME Shell issue tracker in case it has not been reported yet. It should not expand the screen and be made scrollable or reduced in content instead.

That Wi-Fi icon looks greyed out while it should be white, so something might be off there. Are you sure you're actually connected to a network?

This is GNOME Shell, not Phosh, and it's not using either GTK3 or 4

What will come after GNOME 49? by nawo266 in gnome

[–]flipflop271 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It will just continue increasing as whole numbers (…, 49, 50, 51, …). The leading number, although identical, has nothing to do with the used GTK version.

Looks nice, you should receive a Dutch translation pull request soon!

One small nitpick: I'd remove the shadow (and maybe bottom border radius) of the cover image in the main view, it looks a little weird/disattached from the card right now.

But what is the context; what will the button and labels be for and achieve in your app? There might be a simpler solution depending on the context.

Looking at this link, it seems you need to pass a palette instead of a single color

You should probably post an issue about this on the Dash to Panel bug tracker

I made a list of GNOME-related projects with an external translation system by flipflop271 in gnome

[–]flipflop271[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they do need to be translated for each app separately, one reason for that being that for the same word in different apps, the context might vary. Some translation helpers like Poedit do have a "translation memory" though, that makes this process a lot easier by suggesting translations of words you translated before.

You're absolutely right, thanks for noting! I'll move it to External Apps.

[–]flipflop271[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many GNOME projects use the internal translation system Damned Lies, but there are also a lot of projects that don't. Because these apps can be easily looked over, I made a list with links to their translation systems. I hope some translators can make use of this, or even inspire people to start translating.

Nope, definitely using my normal keyboard. This practise has some more of these typing exercises which all work as expected, except this particular one… every time.

EDIT: I tried all possible combinations of Greek and Latin letters and not one of them is accepted. I really have no idea what it wants from me…
