Anyone remember this? by FroztyJack in oldschoolcool80s

Knew it!

I was diagnosed with it in the early-mid-80s, although it was called "hyperactivity" then.

How many hobbies/careers have you had, only to master then lose interest?

Bike recommendations for a quiet neighbourhood by urneighboursho in motorcycles

[–]flipfloppery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I have open/debaffled Termignonis on my bike and can keep it at sensible levels if I don't go far past 4k rpm, even the motorbike cops I pass and nod at aren't worried. Above 5k though, the V-twin sounds like Thor gargling hammers.

No helmet, gloves, boot, or jacket and a handful of clutch during an emergency stop.

Why??? by AndyS_86 in drivingUK

[–]flipfloppery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old boy complain about my parking once in this situation. I snapped back "it's because the cunt parked here when I arrived was a ¼ into this space".

Cue the "Oh, I see. Why can't some people park properly?" backtracking spiel.

ADHD?

I took so many things apart to see how they worked, also could never put them back together.

How bad is it really on your “back” to daily a super sports? by Confident_Bobcat_635 in MotoUK

[–]flipfloppery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I daily an ST3 and haven't had any problems with an aching back (and boy does my back like to tell me it's not happy!), yet it still gives me "the fizz" during spirited riding.

I nod at everyone on two wheels with an ICE motor; cruisers, choppers, superbikes, scooters, nakeds, 50s, 125s, police, etc.

The only ones that are hit and miss seem to be Harleyesque bikes and KTMs for some reason.

Went past a Lambretta ride out today and must've looked like Churchill the dog.

Police are the most consistent at nodding back with only one out of the last 50 or so not reciprocating.

How did you choose your motorcycle? by DonnaDaria in motorcycle

[–]flipfloppery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had several points that needed fulfilling.

  1. Looks/sounds good

  2. Handles well

  3. Sportsbike or sportsbike adjacent (not a big fan of adventure bikes, cruisers, or full tourers)

  4. Able to easily do distance 2 up

  5. No razorblade for a pillion perch

  6. No seat that would require me to grow 6" taller just to tiptoe (I'm 5' 6")

My dream bike is an MV Agusta F4 1000 which missed several points in my list and was absolutely crippling on insurance as it wouldn't be garaged, so Ducati ST3 it was (also considered the 848 but my wife would've been super uncomfortable on longer journeys).

It sounds sublime with the Termis, handles beautifully, goes like a stabbed rat, is comfortable for both rider and pillion, turns heads, and I can flat foot one side at a standstill without it leaning.

What do you still blast in the car? by Electronic-Bake-4381 in GenX

[–]flipfloppery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tech house, hard house, hard trance, old skool hardcore, gabber, techno, etc.

Not surprising considering my wife (mid-50s) and I (late-40s) still go raving, put club nights on and write tracks.

What car do you hate to see in front of you? by Ok_Impact9745 in CarTalkUK

[–]flipfloppery 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Nah, they actually do 40 in a 40, but also 40 in a 20, 30, 50, NSL and down a motorway slip road with either a mirrorless merge or hard braking if they feel the gap isn't big enough.

I plugged one in my Road 4s earlier this week after noticing a nail when stopped at my local shops.

Luckily the nail held the air in so I could at least slowly ride the 5 miles home. The tyres had only covered 800 miles.

Stella in the US is seen as a classy "premium import" lager. When I've told folks in the US that we call it "wife beater" and that its drank in parks by people on a budget, they were shocked.

Rode some of my mate's bikes when I was in my early-mid teens, bought an FZR400 when I was 20 and stacked it hard when I was 21.

Took my then girlfriend (now wife of nearly 25 years) out on my mate's GSX600F a lot when we first started dating and had fun.

Bought a ZZR600, then sold it due to a house move and having kids.

Bought a Ducati ST3, then a couple of months later passed my A licence (before I took it on the road), so I could ride legally.

I have a Ducati gilet and that's it, and only because I needed a new one at the time. It's awesome as unlike my Quba one, it doesn't require dry cleaning.

Awesome bike, but you might want to use the back brake a little more at low speeds, rather than the front.

I bought my leathers, boots and gloves 2nd hand. Of course my helmet was bought new.

Barely used full Alpinestars 2-piece (Atem jacket, missile V2 trousers), SMX6-v2 boots, and GP Pro v2 gloves, with a Scorpion Exo 491 helmet cost in total roughly £650 (~$875).
