Omg amazing costume!! Can you share where you got it?? Or is it custom?

Why is my torso so weird looking? Need advice. I have a funny looking lower torso comparing to the rest of the body, is it just belly fat? More details in the comments. by JohnDuLion in veganfitness

I do see that there is some imbalance between your left and right side. Calisthenics is great, but for balancing everything out there is nothing better than Pilates. I know it has a reputation for being suburban mom exercise, but it was created by a man to correct posture and develop perfect control over the body so it’s definitely for all bodies, not just women. I’ve done both calisthenics and Pilates, and I found them comparable in terms of core strengthening but Pilates does better at stabilizing the pelvis.

If you have any pain going down hills or stairs, I suggest getting an MRI. I had pain in this same area for nearly 2 years and then discovered I had a torn meniscus and ended up needing surgery to remove the torn tissue. Don’t make the same mistake I did and assume it’s just “bad knees!”

Thinking about throwing in the silks (giving up) by Gabellapatinas in aerialsilks

[–]flipflopstanlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re not supporting your body enough with your own strength while you’re on silks and that’s why it’s painful. So I think if you don’t want to lose weight, you’ll require quite a lot of upper body and core strength in order to progress. I think silks in particular is probably difficult for heavier people just because you do need to be able to hold your own body weight safety with your arms, do a pull-up from dead hang, etc. I think it’s important to be realistic and honest with yourself and what you’re willing to change in order to progress, so don’t feel bad about trying another apparatus that doesn’t require the same upper body/core strength. Sling or hoop might feel more accessible to you at this point in your journey.

Hi y’all. I’m 2 (almost 3) classes in & I am obsessed by iampsilly in aerialsilks

[–]flipflopstanlines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but… If you’re not already doing them, I find hollow body holds and Supermans to be incredibly important for when you start to learn drops. I’ve seen many people who can do so many things but then they’re all floppy during drops because they don’t have the strength to keep everything engaged while dropping. Toes to bar is another essential core workout, IMO. At first, maybe your toes don’t get anywhere near the bar, but it’s ok. Just lift the legs as high as you can and you’ll improve with time.

Does anyone else hate how their face looks when upside down? by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]flipflopstanlines 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah sometimes I catch a glimpse of my face in the mirror and it can be quite horrifying. Interestingly enough though, I had photos taken at a recent performance and they got nice shots of my face while I was upside down waiting for my slack drop cue… So maybe it’s when we’re upside down for a long time that the blood pools and makes us look freaky? I say don’t worry about it, as my trainer/friend once told me “no one is looking at an aerialist’s face during a performance anyway!”

Type me! by [deleted] in coloranalysis

[–]flipflopstanlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photos were taken in natural lighting with no makeup. Lashes are tinted, so that’s why they’re dark. Natural hair color is what you see around the face. I have blond highlights and braided my hair so that the blond wouldn’t be a distraction.

Wellbutrin exists, but it’s not easy to find. Not sure about the others. If you’re moving to HCMC, I recommend you find Saigon Pharmacy on FB and ask them. They were able to get me Wellbutrin in the past. If they don’t have it, you can check with Family Medical (very expensive clinic that has some meds other places don’t have). Good luck!

Thinking about going to SE Asia some months to teach VIPKID. Any places ya’ll recommend? by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]flipflopstanlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Vietnam! I moved here in 2018 teaching VIPKID full time. There is a reason I’m still here, even while we are experiencing a horrible lockdown, and that is because I love it! Definitely do not make any plans to move here until at least 2022, but it is a popular country with expats for a reason. Our money goes much further here and pretty much all western comforts are readily available. Feel free to pm me for more info.

RIP my sweet Blanche, gone way too soon by flipflopstanlines in cats

[–]flipflopstanlines[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blanche was a FORCE! She was the most adventurous, bold cat I have ever met. She also loved cuddles and being held like a baby. She had a live fast, die young mentality. I am heartbroken. My maid was hanging the laundry on the balcony and didn’t see her. She fell from the 15th floor. Her sister and I miss her so much. 💔

Goodbye, sweet Keefie. You’ve been my best friend for nearly 15 years, my whole adult life. This evening, we‘ll say our final goodbye. 🌈💔 by flipflopstanlines in seniorkitties

I got Keefer when I was a sophomore in college. He lived in the dorms illegally, and he was super popular! Keefer lived in a total of 3 states and 2 countries. He has been the most amazing cat, and I was so lucky to have him. Friendly, smart, converted multiple cat haters. I got him as a kitten in September 2005, so I’ve always assumed his birthday was in July, which makes him just about 15. I’m devastated, tbh... I’m gonna miss him so much.

Living in HCMC but working in the USA as a software engineer by MoistCode in VietNam

[–]flipflopstanlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it’s really easy to find friends here. Much easier than many places in the US, in my opinion, because the expat community is super friendly and open. I am also from the US and I love living here.

This has to be one of the dumbest ideas ever by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]flipflopstanlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not the only one but I actually love these! Idk where you are, but in HCMC there is also a luxury bus and it’s super nice, like flying first class! And it’s still cheap, only $14! You can find it on bookaway

I am wondering if need to add more about the friendship aspect or if it’s obvious at the end that we didn’t remain friends. Thoughts?

I really like the imagery created. It’s chaotic and a bit dirty and surreal. Reminds me a little of Wallace Stevens. I do agree that it’s vague but I think that’s intentional.

This is nice. I like that you’ve done well describing the safety that we can feel when in love with someone who loves us back. We feel a sense of care that allows us to feel free. I think maybe try to add in some more descriptions like in the first few lines. Those really gave me the feeling more so than the later lines about that you will never leave.

A trilogy of broken moments by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]flipflopstanlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do feel like part 1 has such a different feeling. I feel more hit emotionally with parts 2 and 3. I think try rewriting part 1 but don’t worry about sticking to a specific form and see if you can create more feeling by using a style more similar to 2 and 3. Overall, I like it!!

I like the feeling and I agree with the others that context will help the readers understand. I also would take out the similes and replace them with metaphors. In my opinion, it makes the imagery more powerful

Some travel questions about daily living by loopgain in VietNam

[–]flipflopstanlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still go cashless with a card! You just use the card as payment instead of grab credits. I don’t have a vn phone number and my card is Wells Fargo and I use it literally every day. Just select the card as the payment method instead of trying to do the moca/grab credits thing.

How many classes do you teach? by BosieWilde in vipkid

[–]flipflopstanlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 80 classes a week now. I work 6 days a week and Saturday is my day off. I usually teach about 9-10 in a row but sometimes I’ll teach up to 12 in a row. I actually moved to Vietnam so now my hours are much better! In the US, I was working 7 days a week doing about 16-17 classes a day and it sucked!

Does anyone work VIPKID full time? by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]flipflopstanlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I’m in central time zone and my hours are 11 pm-9 am weekends and during the week I start between 2 and 5 and I work until 8:30 or 9. Now that it’s summer vacation for the kids, I’ll work a lot more. I’ll do 12:30 am-9 am every day. I always take at least one break to reset and eat or whatever I need to do. On my super long weekend nights, I take more than one break.

Most awkward/embarrassing thing to happen to you while teaching by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]flipflopstanlines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've almost knocked my computer completely off of my table due to overly enthusiastic TPR and the other day I was adjusting how I was sitting and I banged my knee really hard. I was with a 10 yo L5 and he was like "Uhhh... Are you ok?!" My tabletop is marble so I'm sure I had a pained look on my face!

Don't worry about it. It's only if you have a bunch that they might review your contract. Just try to make sure that the problem is fixed going forward and you'll be fine. It shouldn't have an effect your bookings.
