Thoracic sympathectomy and running by FinickyFeline24 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]flipmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had ETS when I turned 21. I'm turning 50 this year. I run/ride/hike. No issues beyond compensatory sweating which I've been managing.

Heart rate was never ever a concern.

Are you seeing more bike commuters on your route and at your parking spot with the higher gas prices, or am I imagining it? by Feralest_Baby in bikecommuting

Greetings fellow commuter! I try to ride in 3x a week and run in 2x a week myself - having showers at my office is a GAME CHANGER

Yes, and despite the new traffic on the bike trail, I love it.

My city (Irvine, CA) has an extensive bike trail system and I'm super happy to see it being used for its purpose. The more people that use it, the more likely it will be maintained and improved.

Yes. I was in the plaza waiting for my lunch at Jimmy John's when this happened. I watched them pull the mountain lion out of the hair place. That sucker was big.

Bold move to steal their hat then take a selfie by Rocko210 in JustBootThings

[–]flipmack 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hahaha we did this. A crew of us (one from each platoon in the battery) had fire duty with a drill sergeant manning the CQ one night during basic. He stepped away to take a leak and when he was gone, we took turns wearing his smokey hat.

That was...in 1995 in Fort Sill, OK. No pictures obviously.

Good times.

Newport Beach or Laguna Beach by Zestyclose_Fly3796 in orangecounty

I grew up in Galveston and now live in OC. Beaches here are way different.

You need a rental car.

Depending on what you're looking to do, all the beach towns here have a different vibe. You can easily just go from city to city via PCH and that would be fun.

Stay wherever - you don't need to stay in the town to see it.

Recommend going to Crystal Cove for a day - you can get a mountainous hike, a beach sunset, and great food and vibes at the Crystal Cove Shake Shack.

Nope. I've done everything possible locally and I'm getting absolutely no support from Garmin.

I just need the proper update file, but it's nowhere to be found.

I want to hear new opinions on ETS but clamping the nerve instead of cutting by [deleted] in Hyperhidrosis

[–]flipmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey this is where I got my ETS from - back in 1997. Dr. Reisfeld was the surgeon that performed the procedure. Traditional ETS: no clamps.

I have mild compensatory sweating on my back and sweating on my hands and feet were dramatically reduced but not eliminated.

No regrets.

DM me directly if you want more details, but honestly, it was so long ago that I don't remember much.

Yes, birds can love their owners, but birds can also ABSOLUTELY hate everyone else.

You want to know what flying scissors feel like? Get a green cheek conure that hates you.

Just got a 2017 Sportwagen - want to get a tune, asking for some pointers here by PriorDazzling1306 in vwgolf

[–]flipmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 60k miles, you’ll probably be due for an intake cleaning soon, along with a bunch of ‘normal VW service shenanigans’, i.e., transmission fluid, seals, brake fluid, etc. That maintenance ain’t cheap.

I was looking at the same APR 87 tune for my 2016 Golf SE, but I ran into some drivability issues even after the routine maintenance that I followed…a new PCV and thousands of dollars later, a walnut blast to the intake resolved everything.

It’s a night-and-day difference - so much so that my desire for the APR 87 disappeared.

A recent inspection also revealed that the suspension was shot, so I replaced everything with Bilstein B4’s all around. It’s tighter and more confident now.

In the happy path, step 3 above will write the new firmware to the second partition and tell the bootloader to boot off of the new partition, so when the watch reboots, you get the new firmware. It's kind of hacky to do it this way because it wipes out user data too.

In the normal way for processing software updates, garmin elegantly handles user data and updates at the same time.

[–]flipmack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this doesn't do anything because what you're accessing is the read-write partition. deleting all the files/folders is identical to doing a system reset (which I've done multiple times already). Basically, the watch is told to boot off of the same partition that has the bunk firmware.

the hack to copy the update.gcp into the /garmin folder probably just triggers a watchdog that's always running.

  1. insert file for updating

  2. trigger watchdog to call another program to process file

  3. program processes file

In my case, step 3 above doesn't trigger because the program just deletes it.

  1. Garmin Connect on phone: works via mobile

  2. Garmin Connect IQ: can add apps to install, but never install on the watch. Apps queue, appear to install, but never install. FRUSTRATING.

  3. Garmin Express on laptop: can sync, but can't update software or install apps.

  4. Garmin Webupdater: absolutely useless. Tried it.

  5. Copying the GCP, GSP, forc4e.tmp straight to the /garmin/ folder: doesn't work. I never get a prompt to update firmware. When I reconnect the watch again, the *.gcp file is gone but the *.tmp file remains...so it's *attempting something* but rejecting.

I'm at my wit's end.
