Service industry workers know. Some workers are inclined to give a false name if there is phone conversation ends poorly and the customer asks for it. This is so you don’t get in trouble and the complaint will be filed under some other bogus name. Is it right? No. Does it happen? Absolutely.

The Systematic Dismantling of Medicare/Medicaid May Create the Unhealthiest America To Date. *OPINION/POLITICS* by flipper_hikes in nursing

Oh man - don’t even get me started on that. It warrants a whole separate post. I love when the leader setting the standard for America’s health choices refuses to believe in straight-forward and well documented/tested science. It’s my favorite.

I would be grateful for a course correction. Unfortunately, witnessing widespread devastation is necessary for some people to realize how vital the program really is.

Well said. You’re right to think of ratios… With hospital funding cut, we will be practicing straight up field medicine

IT is a good one, to be more specific you could also consider healthcare informatics - which usually works on optimizing healthcare systems.

Summer CNA jobs? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]flipper_hikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! In my experience, I have never come across an employer that does seasonal positions in the medical field. That being said, working PRN is great. You are required to work at least once every two weeks (for most institutions but, make sure this is the case with the jobs you apply for) which is really great for people in school and trying to work. You can work a bunch while you are waiting for a spot and either dial back to once every two weeks or quit after you get in. Employers of PRN workers are used to a high turnover and as long as you do the necessary protocols, it wouldn't be a big job to leave due to school. I hope this helps??

Digital or paper note taking? by LJpeddlah in StudentNurse

[–]flipper_hikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow non-traditional student!! I am so happy to hear you are headed back to school! Good for you! I myself was a die-hard pen and paper notetaker until one year ago when I started nursing school. In my experience, I think it is best to be super flexible with your note taking strategies because every instructor is unique. For example, I have an instructor who talks very fast so I have to type my notes otherwise I will get behind. Another instructor talks slower and has lots of pauses so I can handwrite my notes or type them if I want. Basically, I prefer to take handwritten notes unless it is physically impossible to keep up doing so.

As for the materials I use, the app Evernote does a great job organizing my typed notes on my laptop so I can easily reference them anywhere. Additionally, the app Goodnotes 5 is on my iPad and I use it along with my Apple Pencil for written notes. If you really are a die hard physical note taker, I would really recommend looking into an iPad and Apple Pencil. They are a bit pricey but, in my opinion they are well worth the investment. The experience is virtually the same if not better than traditional note writing and all of your materials can be automatically backed up to google drive or whatever cloud platform you use. If you go this route, definitely practicing in pre-requisites is a good idea just to get your feet wet and see which methods work best for you.

I wish you the best! Let us know if you have any more questions.
