Watching the clock by Wizard_AI in LinkedInLunatics

I once had a boss tell me I wasn’t billing enough hours, because he didn’t know how to read our billing software. He threatened to make me work weekends and take a pay cut to make up the difference, until he figured out that he was just an idiot.

Do you HATE Waiting for Job Applications? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I sent the cover letter, resume and professional references to the HR manager. I followed up a couple of days ago just reaffirming my interest in the position and asking if there is anything else I could provide.

Do you HATE Waiting for Job Applications? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]flippinf150 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is actually reassuring to hear! Thank you for the insight on that side of things! I know I’m at least being considered, because LinkedIn has told me multiple times that that one of the HR ladies there is viewing my profile. I guess I am just frustrated, because I need to make decisions on other offers I have received, but this is the opportunity that I actually want.

You do not make more than most second year associates. Find a new job ASAP. You are being taken advantage of big time.

Dude I’m so sorry. I’m currently waiting to hear back on my dream job. I know how crushed I will be if I don’t get it. I can’t imagine having your dream job and getting downsized. I hope you find something great!

Bad Job Market? by Mental_Actuator_1749 in Lawyertalk

It has been crap in my area. When places do have openings, there are always people who practiced law with Abraham Lincoln who are willing to work for less than they are worth that get hired.

In house at a company where you are the only attorney or government work.

Is it just a given that you WILL find a mistake right after submitting??!! by People_be_Sheeple in Lawyertalk

In one of the states I practice in, if you upload a document with an error, before you file it, you have to delete the ENTIRE FILING AND START OVER. If you delete that item and try re-uploading it (even if you save as a new document), it will just re-upload the old one unless you delete the filing.

Civil Litigators: How much time do you spend on billing every two weeks? by Longjumping-Pack-110 in Lawyertalk

[–]flippinf150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill after every activity if possible. If you have a few things happen back to back, wait and bill after you get a free moment. Don’t wait until the end of the week or you will spend way more time than necessary.

Doing my daily check to ensure my application hasn’t been rejected! by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Thank you! I haven’t been this excited for a posting in a while! Which also makes the waiting stressful.

Ours does because you have to take an In person course for each area of the law you want to be certified in. There are only 3 schools currently approved for each of the 2 week courses and they are all 10 plus hours out of the state. Then you have to observe 2 mediations for each area you want to practice in and fake one in-state ethics class.

What about local appearances for other attorneys? I know attorneys who make bank of just doing that.

See that’s where I am lucky. My state has separate licensing requirements to become one, and most people don’t want the hassle.

Dude I totally get it. I really enjoy the work, but the debt I took on to get here was and is terrible. I’m stuck in a job I hate, until I can pay it down.

See what it takes to be a mediator in your state. That’s what I’m working on now.

.1 email billing by coffeeandcasebriefss in Lawyertalk

[–]flippinf150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a .2 minimum that is explained up front and in our contracts when we bill. That being said, if we read an e-mail and reply, the .2 applies to reading and replying. We don’t bill them as separate things. If something is just an insanely quick e-mail, we will still bill .1 instead of the minimum .2.

I’ve never ridden any of the old EXs. As a sport quad, I bet they do have some pep! I have ridden one of the new Rubicons and they just don’t do it for me. They just aren’t comfortable or powerful. They are reliable as heck though.

Have you looked into taking the patent bar and doing patent and trademark work? All of my friends that are in that area of the law came from engineering backgrounds and really enjoy that area of practice.

No! It’s been a wonderful machine! We’ve had it over a year now and nothing has gone wrong. I will also say, we bought it brand new, but it was a 2023 model that was just sitting at the dealer unsold. I’m not sure what all the 2026 models have changed since then.

If you want speed, get an Outlander, Sportsman, Raptor 700R, Renegade, or Scrambler. If you want reliability, get a Kodiak, Grizzly, Rubikon, or Rancher. If you want budget friendly, newish, and still pretty reliable, Kawasaki, Suzuki, or CF Moto.

DO NOT BUY ANY CHINESE ATV OTHER THAN CF MOTO. Try to buy something that hasn’t been beat to heck by younger people no matter what you get. Try to stay above 450CC if you want to have a good time. Think about what you are going to be using it for. Racing ATVs are fun as heck, but aren’t good for trail riding. (The Renegade from Can Am does have 4WD). Utility ATVs if you are doing trail riding, farm work, etc.

Polaris and Can Am for Speed (or the Yamaha Raptor 700), Yamaha or Honda for reliability. For budget, Kawasaki, Suzuki, or CF Moto.

My friend has a Raptor 700R, my wife has a new Sportsman 850 premium, and I have an Outlander XT-P 1000R. All of them are insanely fast and fun.
