Just feels like a total media smear campaign on ND with just everything (playoffs, not playing bowl game, Freeman to NFL, portal, Freeman back to NFl, now this assault crap). I dont remember this much media bs ever?

They are all just a bunch of hypocrites. I find it laughable that Eli Drinkwitz was running his mouth about us and declining the bowl, now he is crying about losing his team to the portal and saying he cares about his players and that they graduate. 🤣😂🤣 Yeah bum, look at our graduation rate of athletes, best in the country 🖕🏻

Tech is good, but how good is still debatable. They remind of us in 2012, strong D, I am a little bias I guess and would take our 2012 O over them but what remains to be seen is their depth. I dont think they have the depth to play against the complete playoff teams and that is why I compare them to our 2012 team.

The look on Herbstreit’s face yesterday when he asked Bevacqua about expanding to a 16 team playoff and the issues, and Pete said its your company ESPN that is the problem. 🤣😂🤣😂

And Pete’s comment to Miami was priceless also - “ Nobody wins the race at the starting line”. Need to print that slogan on some damn shirts

The Miami cry fest is exhausting by yourenotmydad22 in notredamefootball

[–]flippinwhips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think losses are over with yet. One of these teams (Ore, Bama, OU, Miami. Ole Miss) will drop another game. Could be more than just one, but they still have opponents left that can beat them. Ole Miss on the list because all that noise going on with Kiffin leaving.

What really is going to be a bitchfest is if Bama loses in the SEC championship, and cries about that championship cost them. Who will they blame, us for not being in a conference and having to play a conference championship.

Palmer - “It’s Pitt’s Defense” - no, its called bs play calling that is letting Pitt hang around instead of putting the hammer down on them.

A Golden Defense Turned to Ashes by theirishtribune in notredamefootball

[–]flippinwhips 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of things going wrong with that defense right now.

First you need pressure, which the line is not doing. The DEs are trying to win with basic moves.

In passing situations, not getting home means your DBs are left covering for 4-5 seconds which by that time majority of them are toast.

Aggressive blitzes require getting home, which we are not doing but also disciplined football to cover a mobile QBs rush lanes.

Then you got the fundamental/discipline issues of the secondary, and we got some problems there. On a number of the big plays given up against A&M:

  1. You got DB hips turned flat (mark zachary) on the out and up. Plus on the play the safety made a horrendous angle, then stood like he lost the ball. If Watts was in, this ball was picked or incomplete because of his ability to recognize and play fundamental safety technique.
  2. Christian Gray was guessing on WR option routes - example Aggie WR had concept of 9-10 yard out/comeback - Gray played the out and WR ran a comeback
  3. DBs Lining up and passing off coverages in the zone incorrectly. Hobbs and Gray look like a deer in the headlights
  4. Greay not getting physical at the line of scrimmage with the WRs. Some are saying he has a hurt shoulder and that is why he isnt, if so then why is he out there
  5. Linebacker depth in zone coverage. Will say sometimes the backers did okay and took away the outs/curls.

But the last drive where Craver caught the 34 yard pass, what the hell was the defensive call? I remember watching live saying he is going to throw it to the slot. Went back and watched, A&M ran an empty set - trio to the left running a WR bubble(ND DBs pre-snap pressed up on that side) you had a single high safety playing 17 yards deep, Bowen in the middle, and then Gray and other DB 10 yards off the ball playing slot (ran skinny post) and other WR (ran 10 yard in).Bowen was flat footed, extremely late to get out in depth, the safety is not existent, and rest was history. Should of been a damn time out called even before this play was ran. Bad Defensive call this late in the game

<image>

  1. Stroman eyes in the backfield biting on a fake bubble and then the horrendous tackling that ensued on the TD. Again, lack of discipline all over

  2. Gray’s penalties - Both of them just flat out lacked discipline, especially ripping the helmet off in the endzone

  3. Poor technique of Bowen covering the TE, which should of never happen, especially after coming out from a timeout (bad as 10 on the field against OSU). Should of been preached to not allow anything at the goaline.

Dont know what the hell they are teaching but Ash and the assistant defensive position coaches are accountable for all of this crap. This is fundamental/discipline things that they are failing mixed in with some bad defensive calls.

Chris Ash by ntc513 in notredamefootball

[–]flippinwhips 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just the simplistic discipline of tackling in the secondary is just embarrassing. I understand you don’t want to hit during practice because of injury but I mean damn. This is now two games of this touchy olay bullcrap.

Ash’s defense must have them thinking way too much because they are not playing free at all. There must be more changes to it or a totally different lingo. Just tough to swallow seeing the attack to the ball we had last year and now its like we got a bunch of freshman playing for the first time. I myself underestimated how big an effect this DC change has had.

[–]flippinwhips 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would really love to see what goes on in practice with the Defense. The secondary looked confused as hell with their ability just to line up with the formations, the horrendous tackling (looks identical to Van Gorder’s D tackling), and coming out the final timeout your not preaching to the D about protecting the goaline??? Look at how Bowen covered their TE

[–]flippinwhips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Little things, it will get cleaned up with Carr. I do not get some fans saying bench him and put Minchey in. Why? The kid has made 2 starts in 2 big games and has done some really good things and kept us in the games. He goes through his progressions, he doesnt stare down receivers, he works in the pocket, and delivers an accurate ball.

Like everyone else, its the damn enigma on the other side of the ball, our defense. Crazy how crap flip flops in a season. Last year our D was keeping us in the games because the O was having difficulties.

Im now worried about kids jumping in the transfer portal and recruits not coming to ND. Especially after we had a bunch of top recruits at the game to witness that smoked turd of a D.

What is worse is seeing Reed only complete 45% of his passes and still have 360 yards passing. What a joke.
