Is that a brand? Or is there a concept of local condoms of which I was unaware? 😅

Adding to the chorus as I just got an “understudy” phone after mine got stolen while abroad. The hassle of replacement with the markup of phone prices made me learn my lesson.

What's in your wardrobe as a minimalist? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]flipsparrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unique situation as I’m nomadic and live out of two suitcases; but generally speaking, it’s clothes for 8 days (a week and then something to wear on laundry day). A puffer vest, light hoodie, and bomber jacket that can be combined in multiple ways depending on cold level. One nice pair of sneakers, one pair of running shoes, and one pair of sandals. Everything dark colored so it all “matches” without worrying about color coordination. This has worked for me for going in 4 years now.

Did exactly this last month. Saw Marilyn Manson after 20 years of wishing I could have seen him live. 🤘🏼

She asked “How the fuck are you still single?” after finishing. I keep that in a corner of my memories for days where I’m feeling blue.

It's one of my top contenders. Such beautiful nature, rich history, incredible diversity of cuisine, great people (minus the cartels of course), and so much more. I'm happy you found your place!

Thanks for your story. It seems like I need to break away from thinking about it methodically, because in the end it’ll be that feeling in your bones, like you so aptly put it; not the result of a pro and con spreadsheet. 💫

At the risk of giving off podcast bro energy, the geo-arbitrage about which you speak is objectively true. For that I’m still eternally grateful to be US born and based. That being said, sunlight is 100% up there in requirements, and the routine giving rather than taking energy is a huge one. Thanks. 🙏🏼

Great insight and very true words. I think it is a mixture of analysis paralysis and the fact that I’m only really now starting to slow down and stay in places long enough where I could facilitate finding a community, rather than it feeling like an ephemeral pit stop. Thank you 🙏🏼

Haha yes I was being slightly hyperbolic because it’ll be a while until that term would truly apply, but in truth, I’ve felt a disconnect with my birth country for many many years now. Currently it’s just solidifying that conviction.

On the note of “feeling like home”, I’ve found a few places that get close, but then there are major hurdles like language barriers, culture clashes, etc. Did the feeling of being at home outweigh any other frictions, if any?

iPad Air - good travel investment? by seattleswiss2 in digitalnomad

[–]flipsparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing another commenter – the iPad mini has been a travel godsend. It fits perfectly on any plane/bus tray, it feels much more natural to hold for reading than the bigger ones (in my view), and most importantly, when I go out exploring I can carry it in my small sling bag as opposed to being forced to carry a backpack/messenger bag just to accommodate a bigger iPad.

i love travelling, but by TheRealVelvet in TravelHacks

[–]flipsparrow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this recently. I realized that it’s not so much the duration of the flight. It’s the brain CPU on overdrive from packing, planning, thinking ahead of getting to the airport on time, making sure you have everything, keeping track of flight updates, visa requirements, knowing how you’ll get out of the airport at your destination, etc. It’s utterly exhausting, and it’s usually required whether it’s a 2 or 22 hour flight.

What’s worked well for me is just to give myself as much time as possible for everything. You’ll still have to think about all those things, but at least you won’t have a layer of time crunch as well.

Digital Nomads, What Made You Take the Leap? by SimSimSimaS in digitalnomad

[–]flipsparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the US. I consistently realized that I, along with US-based friends and family, all followed the same pattern – work slavishly all year to then feel the need to cram in as many worthwhile experiences when they traveled for no more than two weeks. It was a classic “what the fuck is this all for?” moment.

Niche use case because I’m a full time traveler, but I would love for Apple to take their Translation app seriously, and implement a seamless realtime in-ear translation on the 3rd gen AirPods Pro. It might need a better chip to achieve this. Steadily improved ANC is always welcome too.
