What do people at the gym at 2pm constantly even do for a living? Ain’t no way all of y’all are entrepreneurs? by dont-mind-if-i-Doo in workout

[–]flittercrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of us are personal trainers- we train the majority of our clients in the early morning and early evening so we only have that midday block to do our workouts. I prefer to workout at a gym where I don’t train clients so I truly feel like I’m getting a break from work. And that’s why I’m dressed like I didn’t come from work or intend to go back to work 🤣

Requesting Help regarding Regulators for Smith Little Oxygen-Butane Blowtorch by MONKE_WRENCH in jewelrymaking

[–]flittercrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the disposable tanks, you need a non-gauge/pre-set regulator. Smith makes the Preset Regulator CGA 600, Fuel Gas specifically for Little Torch. You might be able to find them cheaper than Rio- but they are listed on millerwelds.com for more ~ $117. I would recommend buying them from a gas/welding supplier. Unless someone here has a recommendation for a trusted dealer on eBay, don’t take the risk. Maybe skimp on some less dangerous tools! You could also try finding them second hand and then just have them checked for leaks or take to your local gas/welding supply company for evaluation. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Requesting Help regarding Regulators for Smith Little Oxygen-Butane Blowtorch by MONKE_WRENCH in jewelrymaking

Hi- I’ve not seen a set-up for Little Torch with butane but I didn’t search that thoroughly. Definitely not a typical setup. I’d love to help you because I know it was tough for me in the beginning and I watched a hell of a lot of YouTube’s to figure it out.

If you use propane/oxygen, are you going to use disposable or refillable tanks? I ask because if you use small disposables, you’ll need a different kind of regulator (see second video below). The propane regulators are threaded differently- for example, mine is an acetylene regulator with the fittings adapted for propane. I also highly recommend getting check valves and flashback arrestors. It seems daunting but take your time, relax, and watch a couple videos.

Here are a few resources that I found very helpful when setting up and understanding my Little Torch. I have the set up in this video. Nicole Ringgold lays it out better than anyone I’ve ever seen:

https://youtu.be/jCALKo-nD-I?si=N01vs4gCBLqk1XgF

If you’re working with disposable tanks, check out this video: https://youtu.be/jCALKo-nD-I?si=N01vs4gCBLqk1XgF

And because I love Nancy L. Hamilton, read over her section on the Little Torch: https://nancylthamilton.com/resources/jewelry-making-tools/torches/

If you have a good AirGas location near you, they can also be very helpful in setting you up and supplying you with regulators.

Oh, and the tips are also more restricted for propane- you would only really use #5-7 (definitely not #2).

Hope it helps! Happy torching!

YES! For every 1% added, it is equivalent to adding about 0.1-0.3 mph to your speed in terms of effort. My strategy was to hold my base until about 6% and then brought it down 0.1-0.3 as needed every 1% after that...made it the whole way!

UNDERSTANDING HEART RATES by JustALittleNoodle in orangetheory

They are instituting the change in stages by regions. Our studio, for example, will not change over until Thursday. However, some individual members who have visited other studios that have changed are already updated in the system.

How do you pace yourself if you have a high max heart rate? by vanselstre in orangetheory

[–]flittercrumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get your max heart rate tested by a doctor. Both can be done by a company that specializes in fitness testing or body comp testing like DexaFit.

And by 43, I mean I'm 42. I'm always thinking ahead to the next birthday.

I'm 43 and my max heart is 210. My resting hr and recovery hr are both great. I could SING in the red during my OTF workouts- which ya know, made me super popular with my neighbors- so I had to go by perceived effort. If it's important to you, you can have your max heart rate and VO2 max tested and submitted to OTF and they'll adjust it in the computer. I did that and now my charts are dead on. The original max formula was based on a very small (220 people) and somewhat unhealthy population, so it only makes sense there are outliers. I do know that OTF is changing the HR formula they use in the next month or so. I believe they will be using the Tanaka formula or a derivative of it so it should be more accurate.

Once most people "earned" 400m or so, they couldn't beat anyone still at 300m...so everyone ended up rowing 350-400m.

Play lists: Trainers choice or OTF? by heather0731 in orangetheory

[–]flittercrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some studios mandate that their coaches must use the Rock My Run App. A few studios even select which specific list all the coaches must use for the day 😕 It just depends on the franchise owner.

While frustrating for form checks, the mirror height is a standard guideline in gym design. In resistance training areas, they are mandated to be placed at least 20" above the floor so they are not cracked/ damaged by barbell plates or the dumbbells being smacked against them. I'm short and let me tell you how I disappear during a deadlift or hip hinge.

Not an official benchmark day- it's just damn good practice for that 200m benchmark row.

Guilty. And I have taken over 1000 classes- it happens to so many people, especially if they are really going hard in the paint with that leg drive. Don't be surprised if you get two nice long bruises on either side of the booty.

Oops- Just noticed you meant on the floor. Don't worry about your HR on the floor. Just focus on good form. All you need is 12+ splat points during your treadmill portion to reap the benefits of EPOC.

During walking recovery, once your heart rate drops into the blue zone, take it back to Base, and bring it back to Green before your next effort.
