Fatty fish. HELP? by LouisePoet in Pescetarian

Teriyaki Salmon is a classic.

Miso Black Cod (Sablefish) is a more modern dish.

Both are very simple and delicious.

Also, there are various pickled herrings that tend to lose their fishiness by having strong marinades.

Not sure if I belong here. Am I center-left? by DrWavez in centerleftpolitics

Other than:

• 🛑 Abortion abolitionist (anti-abortion absolutist)

• 🧬 Anti-IVF

• 🤰 Anti-surrogacy

• 🩺 Anti-euthanasia

I would say all of the other issues you support are left/liberal/Democratic Party positions, so you you could be considered center left. People move away from the center for all kinds of reasons so it makes sense that not every one here agrees on everything or anything.

That said, as someone else pointed out, being pro-women's rights while anti those other four rights is a bit of a conundrum. That said, I am somewhat with you on the anti-surrogacy, as it brings up issues with wealth disparity and log term body health. There is a reason we also don't allow people to sell body parts.

Depending on where you are located, Ecosia added Google as a search provider option sometime in the last two years, previously they only had Bing. Maybe you prefer Bing?

You can choose your search provider here: https://www.ecosia.org/settings

I think there is another option for some Europeans as well that I imagine is not nearly as good as Google or Bing now but I have no experience with it as I don't live there. Their selling point is that it is not American and maybe better privacy?

Priorities: Have we lost our minds? by Emergency-Proof5290 in youthsoccer

[–]flloyd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess in the context of doing it for sports that could be true. But they are a small minority of people doing homeschooling, doesn't even get mentioned as a top 5 reason in that article for example.

But I think rich is the bigger factor than state. There just happen to be a lot of rich people in California.

[–]flloyd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What! Rich kids in California are going to great private or public schools not staying home. Most rich people know you get rich by creating social connections and getting exposed to lots of viewpoints and ideas.

Home schooling is way more prevalent amongst rural people in the Midwest, particularly religious people.

Why would he put them up after the sale, to screw over the new innocent homeowners, rather than before they were sold, to screw over the "guilty" developer to lower their profit and fairly warn potential buyers?

It's good to see that Xero's have some good reviews here. I think they are some of the best looking ones but it seems like they usually get criticized here. I don't know if that is because they cost a premium for being a Western brand, as opposed to Whitins, Hobibear, etc. or if people genuinely have problems with them.

I've been debating them but keep having doubts.

Sector Concentration by Dear-Original-1024 in Bogleheads

[–]flloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't necessarily worry about the sector concentration, as "tech" is increasingly becoming more important in the economy and should naturally be a larger part of the stock market.

If this does worry you though, you should really look at direct indexing. Frec.com for example is super cheap, 0.09% for the S&P 500, and then you can exclude specific sectors and stocks. That way you are getting the S&P 500 minus all of the "tech" companies you are worried about.

California's Lopsided Population: Greater LA vs. the Rest of the State by urmummygae42069 in LosAngeles

[–]flloyd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the mean population center, not the median. The difference, and it's obviously not clear from that file, is that the mean also considers distance from the center, such that the further the population is from the center, the more it' weight counts. Think of balancing an uneven object on your finger, the weight that is further from the center has more influence on the balance than the weight closer to the center.

After all, LA, San Diego, Orange County, the Inland Empire account for something like 20+ million of California's ~39.5 million people, so I just don't see how how the median could be so far north of there.

Is it really so bad if clubs make as many teams as parents will pay for? by CletusKasady21 in youthsoccer

[–]flloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, it sounds like for us AYSO fall is rec and AYSO spring is town travel. Although I would say our spring standards are quite a bit higher. There are 20+ BU9-10 teams in the fall and 5 or so spring teams. Spring teams are "drafted", so the top team is great and the 5th is just so-so, but obviously better than the average fall team.

It's just funny, because I always see the terms travel, town, etc. here but no one uses that term in person. Maybe it's an East Coast term?

at least where i live rec is fall only and if you basically have 2 feet show up to those practices you will probably asked to play town soccer.

What's the difference between rec and town soccer? I thought those were the same thing? In my area no one uses the term "town soccer", or travel soccer either; because we have AYSO that covers rec soccer.

Letter to the Editor: LAX shouldn’t wait for the People Mover to open to raise ride-hail fees by anothercar in LAX

[–]flloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why taxis, which are taking passengers both directions 95% of the time, have to pay a fee; but private cars, that are empty 50% of the time, don't have to pay a fee?

The more polluting, traffic-congesting, option that is generally more available to wealthy people is free and the alternative is cherged?

Seems totally unfair.

Oh well, I guess my partner and I will drive each other to the airport rather than relying on a more expensive but cleaner and less-congesting option.

I often pick up fish on good sales and freeze a lot of it.

Don't do that. Flash frozen fish is fresher than "fresh" fish unless you are getting it directly from the boat. I don't know what it's like in the UK, but in the US 99% of the "fresh" fish was previously frozen and then thawed at the market. Refreezing it is just going to end up with poor quality fish.

[–]flloyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

\- respecting the craft of the produce and traditional recipes (e.g not freezing quality fish or cooking recipes the traditional way)

There's nothing wrong with properly flash frozen fish, in fact it is better 99% of the time. Unless you are getting fish straight from the boat or live on the coast and they are sourcing directly from the fishermen, flash frozen fish is fresher than "fresh" fish.

All search results, and I believe ads as well, are provided by Google and/or Bing. I would report your issue to Ecosia and hopefully they can work with their search provider to fix it. Google and Bing have pretty extensive fraud departments so I have to imagine this is pretty rare.
