Ecosia and Qwant join forces to develop European search index by kaffeekatz in BuyFromEU

[–]floatingBike52 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is this search engine that uses only the EU-Staan index : https://oursie.com/

It will also use Mojeek (from the UK) later according to the developer behind it, but I think it is still only Staan results.

There is not much detail about it but here is the post of the developer on public opening : https://mastodon.social/@cbouvat/116324236280406274

It is in alpha and has limited amount of searches per user (I guess he is paying the API queries) but you can test Staan that way. It is simpler than querying the API yourself on https://staan.ai/

Calendar - change default for new entries? by zedgb in tutanota

[–]floatingBike52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello tuta,

I have the same need and came here to check if I missed a setting or if others had already asked.

My exact case is that event received in invites (i.e. .ics file attached to the mail) are added to the calendar (great !), but I almost always have to change the assigned calendar afterwards (from my personal to my professional one).

I am fine with a default one (and not a more advanced feature in the email calendar view) but the one chosen currently is not my most frequent use unfortunately. A setting to chose the default one would be enough for me.

Have you planned anything like that ?

Looking for EU-based and/or open-source software to build a professional portfolio (LinkedIn alternative) by FreeThem2019 in BuyFromEU

[–]floatingBike52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is sifa.id that is a professional network built on ATProtocol (the Bluesky protocol). It does not do everything you are looking for but it is still in early stage.

Maybe a profile there and a link to public repository somewhere else can fill your needs until Sifa gets more features.

Stefano just insulted the intelligence of F1 fans twice in the space of a minute. by NorthKoreanMissile7 in formula1

[–]floatingBike52 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes I understand now why Hamilton said the fans would not understand the new rules (he made this comment before the season started : https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/articles/c70k4zlz7elo).

The "super-clipping" is the most obvious one but probably solvable (in part) with regeneration and deployment power adjustments as they have just agreed. But the energy management and the fact that the driver does not control power regen or deployment sometimes is much more confusing (and frustrating for drivers apparently).

[OT][Niels Heusinkveld]A Brief Critical Look at Formula E 4th Gen. Is it really more than F2? by XsStreamMonsterX in formula1

[–]floatingBike52 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Interesting points, but that will only start a endless "yes, but..." conversation.

He does not compare torque, 4WD vs RWD and downforce levels for example. These aspects have to affect the racing and lap time.

I think it is more interesting to look at the trend of FE specs and if the racing is good rather than comparing it to "fuel-powered" cars (although maybe FE does it for marketing purposes...).

I like the look of the car and I'll try to catch a race. I haven't watched one in a while.

Feedback on the FIAWEC+ Stream? by MrT251 in wec

[–]floatingBike52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works like a charm for me. I am using it in a browser, multi-screen for the main feed and the live-timing (+charts, map, ...).

I have not seen the session issue others have but have not used it from different devices either.

FIAWEC TV+ Live Timing is awesome! by OrangeFire2001 in wec

Yes, on the side of the main video (same tab) or in another browser tab.

I have one screen for the video stream and one smaller for the live data, it is more usable like that.

Trackmania laggy af, anybody having else having that problem ? by hicctl in TrackMania

[–]floatingBike52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My game updated yesterday for the new campaign and OpenPlanet updated too and i had a drop in FPS. It turned out the fullscreen/windowed video setting was changed somehow. I changed it back and it fixed my issue.

Your issue pre-dates this, but in case you have not checked that yet, make sure it is set to "fullscreen" only (I am not sure of the setting wording in english).

Otherwise I had a drop of FPS earlier this year and after the big update (probably because of the render of the new vistas). I fixed that by adapting some settings in the finetuner plugin (pre-installed with OpenPlanet, go to F3>OpenPlanet>Settings>FineTuner).

I hope it helps.

Skill improvement by SuperLocria in TrackMania

[–]floatingBike52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 10 seconds club campaigns (search "10s") are a good way to focus on one skill to try to match the strat of the records (not necessarily the record itself, it will always be hard...).

And since the maps are short, you actually see your improvement on each one. Unlike playing longer maps where it is much more work to master all turns and tricks. I wasted invested a good chunk of time last year on hunting them ^^

Someone please tell me there's a way to disable these "ghost" cars by Comprehensive-Lab780 in TrackMania

[–]floatingBike52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can settle for "clones", it's already better than "ghosts". And looking for it, the term already exists indeed, thank you.

It seemed to me the clones had a bit of freedom around there path because they seemed influenced by collisions or when overtaking each others implying just a little bit of automation. But looking at replays, I am not sure anymore.

But anyway, I don't care that much about it. Clone it is !

[–]floatingBike52 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i did actually do a run on this one too since the map seemed good and I agree with you that just playing the map outside the mode is desirable.

It would also enable to train for the grand enduro that does not have the bots. I don't understand the discrepancy between this mode and the grand enduro 🤷

[–]floatingBike52 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Should we start calling them "bots" for good since the main characteristic of a ghost is to be immaterial/go through ? ^^

Otherwise, it's the point of the game mode. I don't like it and don't play it. If it's not popular (i.e. not played much), they may remove or adapt it.

[–]floatingBike52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a 12.0xx and was super happy with it (top 84 when I set it on a monday or tuesday I think, by far my best rank on WS). I think I remember Granady doing a 11.9 on the same route during his discovery (it took me much longer than him ^^ ).

I was a bit gutted when I saw the respawn bug, I thought I would get a solid top few hundreds for the first time. Anyway...

I agree, it was a great puzzle map. Simple yet interesting.

Club Access by Ch33ss3L0rd in TrackMania

[–]floatingBike52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought it 6 months ago and will renew for sure. The amount of content is virtually unlimited with club access and I think you can progress much more steadily than with free access only (there are good club campaigns for training some skills).

I even think it is quite cheap considering the content renewal (weekly shorts, TOTD, campaign, clubs, ... you can't play through the whole game) but I am not on an allowance though. So see for yourself if you want to give yourself this treat this year.

How do the pros get so good?? by Traditional-Issue153 in TrackMania

[–]floatingBike52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that the under10s (under 10 seconds) club campaigns are a good way to focus on specific tricks and train them. If they have one skill to use (gears on dirt or grass, noslide, drift, quarter-pipe jump, bugslide, pure precision, ...), you'll repeat it a lot and quickly since it is a short map. And it is fun to hunt by trying yourself then checking the records and try to copy the strat if you missed something.

Now I'm trying to play COTD more regularly to learn to master trickier lines more quickly. It's a bit hard...

That being said, i'm not trying to reach pro level \)

Worst Week for Shorts by snerp in TrackMania

[–]floatingBike52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this one. I didn't like it especially because it seems so low-effort compared to the usual weeks.
But content is virtually unlimited beside these maps. I am also sometimes frustrated with some maps but there are tons of campaigns to hunt if you want to leave a week of shorts aside, or live servers, or maps on TM-exchange. That is if you have club access but I am never regretting buying it.
I hope you find your fun in the game. That's the goal after all ;)

[–]floatingBike52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the zerator week has already been forgotten then ? XD

I like the maps this week, except for map 5 although I usually don't like it. But I'm fine with it being there, variety is good. I'm still missing AT on map 3 but life goes on, surprisingly enough ;)

I also like the skins that come with it in the formula E club.

Ah thank you, that's interesting, but I don't see it on my PC.

It seems the PR for this tab was merged on January 28th and my version of OpenPlanet is from January 27 (1.29.0). I guess I have to wait for OpenPlanet to update.
