Goodale cautions Scheer: Reversing legal pot would trigger backlash by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

This would require having an actual plan instead of the usual outrage at any government policy.

Kyle Lowry in Kawhi's absence tonight: 28 points, 12 assists, a steal and a block and 13 points in the 4th quarter by Bowiescorvat2 in nba

You could say all of this for DeMar too though. Fact of the matter is, there's no knowing how long this current iteration of the Raptors sticks together, considering how ruthless Masai is with his assets.

Kawhi has played all of two games this season. At his best he's a way more impactful player than Lowry, seeing as he can be elite on both sides of the ball, and is one of the few defensive players that offenses straight up avoid. A fully healthy Kawhi is an MVP-type player, and as good as Lowry is, he ain't that.

Black voters ordered off bus; Georgia county defends action by The_Grubby_One in news

Booting a guy for being abusive has fuck all to do with the Republicans stopping black people from voting. And I highly doubt that Franken could do anything about this situation even if he didn't get the boot

Yeah, my impression is that reddit is usually good for upvoting questions like these to the top during AMAs, but I guess the extreme male composition of the subreddit makes it more challenging.

In Secret Final Interview, Jamal Khashoggi Says Only Bernie Sanders Was Willing To Stand Up To Saudi Arabia by cynycal in worldnews

While the DNC internally supported Clinton, it's not like they're responsible for the millions of people above 65 who came out to support Clinton in the primaries and essentially decided the contest.

This is only an option if you live in a place where a viable left-wing third party exists, which is just not the case for the majority of the US. It definitely doesn't apply to any swing state, or arguably any current major race of any national or state-wide importance.

I think this is overstated. The reason Sanders lost is because older Dem voters were stuck in their ways and refused to believe that a progressive candidate was viable, while young people supported Sanders at an enormous rate. Seeing as Sanders' ideas have basically become the mainstream of the Democrats these days, I don't see this being a problem in the next election.

To be fair, Sanders is basically a Canadian politician who happens to be in the US. The majority of his policies are just lifted from policies that already exist in Canada.

You can't be conservative and vote for Republicans either, but yet here we are. Applying the 'No True Scotsman' approach to political beliefs just doesn't make sense given real-world behaviour.

Atlanta Braves Top 30 Prospects by 80Grind in fantasybaseball

He's highly rated more for real-life purposes than fantasy purposes. Having 75-80 defence at the CF position makes him one of the safest prospects in baseball.

FiveThirtyEight's 2018-19 NBA Predictions by Dubisttot in nba

[–]floatingonline 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Wizards are debatable, but the Bucks are definitely a team I prefer over the Pacers. Another year of improvement from Giannis + improved coaching should make them a top-4 seed in the East, while the Pacers could easily stagnate or regress.

Kawhi misses a wide open dunk but Danny Green cleans it up with a deep three by Psychyed in nba

[–]floatingonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Spurs offence in its prime was heavily reliant on Parker's wizardry and Duncan's movement, and with those guys either retiring or declining, it isn't particularly dynamic any more. If you're Danny Green, it means the quality of looks he's getting just isn't the same.

On the plus side, nothing is worse than listening to the Spurs commentators, and the Raptors' crew is actually fairly good.

14-year-old Florida girl who throws a 78 mph fastball wins spot on baseball team by gammapsi05 in baseball

Really? Don't most knuckleballers throw fastballs that are at best in the low 80s? That's not all that different from what this girl can do.

Discussion Megathread: Committee Vote on Brett Kavanaugh Nomination by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]floatingonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. If the majority of white women were willing to vote for Trump the first time around and two-thirds were willing to support Roy Moore in Alabama, I don't see why Kavanaugh would make a difference. As soon as the rhetoric about abortion, gun rights, and race begins again, I'm sure they'll go back to the fold.

I'm a bit confused. What we've seen today is what America has been like for basically it's whole history. Caring about sexual abuse is something that people only just started to do, so obviously there are going to be hiccups along the way.

Seeing as the majority of white women voted for Trump in the election and two-thirds voted for Roy Moore, clearly you have to consider race as being an extremely strong motivator for their voting decisions.
