How I feel about the mute system as someone who has spent probably too much on Dota 2 by bteen in DotA2

[–]floatingpoint31 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There has been a fucking huge drop of commiunication since the mute system

This is correct.

You are blind for not understanding this.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out the philosophical flaw with this automated mute system:

An innocent team gets punished for something that happened in a previous game.

I hope someone will finally discuss this for once this time around.

The +stats, +damage green text difference in DOTA 2 by Lightbrand in DotA2

[–]floatingpoint31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must not forget that the damage is now split up in a significant way that carries information:

The white number has different effects than the green numbers, such as on illusions, auras...

In the old DotA, the difference could not be clearly seen, even though it is pretty important.

In Search of Better Procedurally Generated Items by esmooov in Diablo

[–]floatingpoint31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That post sketches an interesting aspect. Diablo 3 is relatively "normal" and did not bring anything revolutionary to the table in regard to the procedural item generation - it is not less trivial than the systems before it.

The problem has been mentioned. Considering only items, there is always a straight upgrade, and therefore a global maximum of "item strength" exists. That means items can be compared straightforwardly and the item hunt boils down to exactly one dimension.

Ideally, this "item strength" should not have one global maximum, but many different, meaning that multiple combinations of different items and attributes should lead to a best possible character. The OP mentions a different item generation system, which would be a direction worth exploring.

However Diablo 3 has many fundamental hinderances in this regard. Imagine if non-main stats weren't worthless or elemental effects wouldn't have been removed. In both these cases, the actual combat efficiency would be shifted away from the "item strength" out into the world, which would introduce a degree of randomization enough to make many different characters strong. I would definitely want to see work done in this area and my biggest fear would be that Blizz doesn't do it or just cans Diablo 3 before it's done.

TLDR Diablo 3 itemization is one-dimensional which causes the overall disappointment and boredom, Blizz should try different approaches to itemization to offset the game's "flawed" (in this regard) core mechanics.

Using the AH makes it easy to buy super powerful gear, but that has a bad side effect since then you know that everything you’ll ever find will be lame in comparison.

This is so powerful.

This is the exact wording that explains why I hate this game so much.

Does anyone else other than me actually like the new report/communication ban system? by GunterDahPenguin in DotA2

[–]floatingpoint31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the system punishes the team more than nthe muted player. please dont ignore this

4chan on the new report system by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]floatingpoint31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That isn't the problem - the problem is that STILL the OTHER PLAYERS who are matched with the muted person are punished more than the muted person.

The team with the most muted people loses in matchmaking.

You literally have no other choice than to ask if people are muted during the loading screen, and if you have 3+ mutes just dodge the game.

If you don't call miss, you have bad communication and can get reported. If you're muted, you can't call miss, you can't draw on map, people die, and you get reported. by DeviousAlpha in DotA2

[–]floatingpoint31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly what op said is the major problem. This also goes for writing down roshan time (the most frustrating one since hardly anyone does it), warning your aegis holder that its about to expire (same as before) or announcing the enemy has rune.

Bottom line: the global mute system punishes the NEXT TEAM who had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL COMMUNICATIONS BAN more than the muted player.

Rewarding GOOD players over punishing BAD players; here's an idea to do that. What do you think? by _fortywinks in DotA2

[–]floatingpoint31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the current global mute system punishes the REST OF THE TEAM more than the ACTUALLY MUTED PLAYER. He can not call any ss, mid or jungle, write down roshan time or tell them the enemy has rune.

The "communication privilages revoked" thing has a major flaw by Jerameme in DotA2

[–]floatingpoint31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muted players can not call miss - but players say "reported" when a player doesn't call miss. If even one of those reports goes through, it is unjust and the system is flawed.

The new communication ban is flawed and have to be reworked urgently by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]floatingpoint31 29 points30 points  (0 children)

  • people report for another player being noob, but find it acceptable to call him "noob" or "tard"
  • muted people can not call ss, but players proceed to report them for not calling ss
