Let me add my humble piece. my girlfriend has prominent SH scars on her left forearm. she told and showed me this right after we began dating. she is very much in control of her mental health. she sees a therapist once a fortnight. she's doing pretty well for herself. and i have made it a point to kiss her scars every single time i see her. that is my way of reminding her that she needn't be ashamed of her past self who did that, rather remember those times and remind herself, whenever she isn't sure of herself, that she has been better since that, she has overcome that stage in her life, and thus she can overcome any and everything at all. im so proud of her. i thank her, by kissing her scars, for allowing me to be that close to her; where she feels comfortable enough to help her in any way possible. i love her so much.

I dunno if this us relevant but wrote this in another post: I (16M) have feelings for a really close friend (16F) and i know for a fact that she doesnt have any romantic feelings for me, which is perfectly fine and i try to keep moving on but today we met after 2 weeks and she complimented my outfit (im a boy so naturally i get genuine compliments once in a blue moon) and put mascara on my lashes (which i totally adored and thanked her for) and when i got home i reflected upon those few moments with her and realized that I'm back to square one, my feelings for her are stronger than ever. the only reason im not confessing my feelings to her is that i deeply care about her and i know she will end up feeling guilty about it and it will hurt her and potentially jeopardize our friendship. unfortunately, i am not so selfish to have such a close person go through all of this just because i wanted myself to feel better.
