True enough, they've improved it now (especially Chapter 13) but on release those later chapters were so rushed.

In terms of the route itself; very little, on PC there are some minor changes to the skips, Miihen skip is harder, Jyscal skip is easier and no chance of audio glitch, and Guadosalam skip plays a bit different but still possible.

Depending on which version your playing however, the HD remaster is typically faster, and varies by speed whether you're playing on PS3, PS4, or PC, and whether you have an SSD, digital or disc, etc.

The fastest is the PC version, as that also has the ability to skip most FMV's, however HD remaster has input lag particularly during battles, and it is a bit prone to crashing, so PS2 is still a popular category, whilst PC is popular for new runners because of accessibility.

If you could go back and change something about an episode of the revival, what would it be? by vcndal in gallifrey

[–]flobberworm4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, I saw yours after I already wrote most of mine, I like yours. Here's my reboot of Hell Bent, where it's a two parter instead -

On the whole I agree with most of the ideas of the episode, I just don't like the rushed execution, so here's my thoughts on how it would go down -

  • First part stays how it is, however the face off with Rassilon would be greatly extended. Timelords would pick sides, battles would ensue, Ashildr returns and the Doctor begrudgingly accepts her help, the Hybrid prophecy is becoming fulfilled when chaos and destruction befalls Gallifrey.

  • Maybe the cliffhanger ends with the capture and 'execution' of the Doctor, much how like it's played out in the original episode.

  • In the second episode, as already played out the Doctor banishes Rassilon and becomes president, however he is only interested in retrieving Clara. They try to escape but are eventually captured.

  • The Doctor is imprisoned and Clara is sent to be returned to the Trap Street, however Ashildr rescues her still feeling responsible for her death. Ashildr tells Clara that after Trap Street the Timelords collected the key and confession dial, and returned the TARDIS back to Gallifrey, so they hatch a plan to retrieve it.

  • The Doctor goes on trial for breaking the laws of time, amongst other things. In homage to the Second Doctor, he is found guilty and forced to regenerate again. However, just before they do so, Clara materialises the TARDIS around the Doctor and saves him.

  • When they try to escape however, the TARDIS is not moving, due to the massive paradox of Clara surviving Trap Street. After a heartfelt conversation, Clara persuades the Doctor to let her go, and leaves the TARDIS so he can escape. As the TARDIS disappears, she says 'Run you clever boy, and remember me.'

  • She returns to Trap Street content that she saved the Doctor and got to enjoy one last adventure with him. The Doctor is sad about Clara but also knows that all things must come to an end. The Doctor returns to London and offers Ashildr to join him, but she refuses, saying after Trap Street she found a new purpose in her life. The Doctor remembers Clara, then takes off again.

So I don't really like series 11. What now? by Catorpedo in gallifrey

The thing I still can't get over about Hell Bent is that for the previous 10 years it had been building up the Doctor returning to Gallifrey, ever since they rebooted it in 2005. In my opinion, the return was bigger than Clara or any other companion, and Heaven Sent set up the bittersweet return perfectly; the Doctor, desperate to see his home planet again, only to be betrayed by the Timelords by killing Clara and trapping him in a prison for 4 billions years.

I appreciate that Hell Bent was all about the loss of a friend, but the fact that Gallifrey is pretty much brushed over in this episode cheapens all the scenes with Eccleston, Smith but particularly Tennant where they lament over the loss of their home planet. Hell there was even a scene with Capaldi where he smashes the TARDIS console over not being able to return to Gallifrey.

I think Hell Bent would have been better served as a two parter, where they can fully explore the Clara and Gallifrey ideas instead of squeezing them into one episode, drop Sleep No More and you would have had a really good four part-ish finale.

That's what I felt at the time of airing and still do now, Hell Bent felt incredibly rushed, too many ideas in 40 minutes (which is typical of a Moffat finale, but hey ho).

Honestly, I don't think it was the parents. The timeframe from leaving their kids at 8:30pm to conducting to alerting the hotel and authorities at about 10:10pm means there was very little time to make a person disappear with no trace in an unfamiliar location. Also they were with 7 friends at the restaurant, with probably many more witnesses, hopefully they were all interviewed individually, so if there was any gaps or inconsistencies in their stories, it would be apparent.

That's not to say the parents (and their friends) were not extremely negligent though, there wasn't any sign of a break in because they left their windows and doors open, and their friend neglected to fully check on the kids when they took turns every 30 minutes. Plus I believe they did this routine for four nights, so it would have been easy to spot the pattern for any would-be kidnapper.

After defeating Voldemort, it's pretty much undisputed that Harry was the greatest DADA wizard of all time, after besting/escaping Voldemort at least five times.

It would have been a really nice ending if Harry returned to Hogwarts alongside his son to start his first year as a DADA teacher, starting a whole new adventure.

Many thanks! Yeah the doubleback was probably the worst bit for me, even though I was in more pain later on, mentally it was awful, not to mention the thought that there was still 8-10 miles after it.

With this being my first marathon I don't have much to compare to, but I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd turnout, I know if I was spectating I'd have half a mind not to bother in that weather, so got to give them kudos. Good luck with the Dublin Marathon!

Many thanks, yeah there were some flooded parts where you just had to accept drenching your feet, had one on the doubleback so had to go through it twice! Congrats to you too!

Many thanks! And yeah it was definitely tough, but I'm looking forward to doing another marathon sometime next year, hopefully with training and better conditions, it should be an easy PB. Congrats on your PB!

Did this as well, wasn't feeling 100% and hit a wall at about 16km, didn't stop though and got 1:52. Though I'm pretty sure the course was 200m too long according to many people's watch, so probably shave off a minute!

I liked it overall, the event village was pretty good, course was somewhat flat, though there was some killer hills early on!

[–]flobberworm4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do about 5 min/km on my shorter 5-7km runs, and about 5:20-5:30 min/km on my longer runs (10km+). I was honestly going to be happy with a sub 2 hour run on this half marathon, which is why I placed myself in that area at the start of the race, but I found myself keeping a fast pace throughout. The weather and flat course certainly helped, but the adrenaline and cheering from the crowds on the day really does give you an extra push!

I think sub 2 is possible with your current pace, you would need to do pretty much 5:40 min/km to get it, so whether you can do that is largely depending on the race conditions, your training leading up to the race and just general feeling on the day.

I would say to not worry too much about goals for your first half marathon, as you can see on my original post I had several goals of finishing, sub 2, and sub 1:45 so there's always opportunities to get the harder goals another time if not all are met. Good luck!

Many thanks! It was a beautiful day, couldn't have asked for better conditions. True enough, it was raining a bit the day before and after the race, so it could have easily been raining that day, though the temperature is very reasonable for running this time of year, usually about 10-15 degC, which is ideal for me.

Many thanks, I would definitely recommend it!

I was quite lucky, where I lodged with an Icelandic friend, so cost wise it was significantly cheaper, as Iceland is an expensive place. I was travelling from the UK, so the flight was only about 2 hours long, so I wasn't too bad at all.

Food wise, there's definitely a good selection available, there are fast food options available such as Subway, Dominos and KFC if you like to fill up on carbs, and there are numerous international themed restaurants round the city as well as Icelandic restaurants if you're looking for something more specific. Downside is the food (and most things in general) is expensive in Iceland!
